Calm Harm was recommended to me by my therapist actually! I've found it very useful at various points in my life for taking care of myself. It provides a wide array of things, from distractions to reflections, that I've found useful for not just self harm urges, but anxiety, depression and other spirals and episodes. I also love that the app is completely free and has little critter friends!
I love this app it has helpen me so many times. But there is one thing since the update, everytime i click on like random or release or something i get a different one so plss fix this :)
I like the feature that locks it, but i feel like it should lock the entire app and not just one section of it. Otherwise it's super great.
I've tried many different selfhelp apps. I'm using this and also free version of Finch. Both allow some personalization.
I ve been using this app for 2 or 3 years, and the development until now has been really great. I'm also very happy with how it works, it helps a lot
I loved it the first few times but after awhile it wouldn'tlet me do anything anymoe I'm uninstalling it and once you fix this then I'll redownload it
It's a great app! But I wish it offered games that were distracting as well, plus some of the activities cause a lot of effort to prepare for such as getting stationary together. It would be helpful if it offered little activities that are just all within the app as at times we can't find the motivation to help ourselves so having all the distractions we need in an app would be awesome!
I heard of this app and got excited about it a few days after last giving in, hoping to use it as a preventative, everything opened fine that day. But the app is now stuck on a white screen while I need it, it will not start up even after reset and complete reinstallation. I want to hope this startup problem is just an issue on my end, but whether it is or not I was let down when I needed a coping resource, and a little soured to the experience
Cute app that actually helps me manage anxiety; however, the password option seems like it should be optional. I assume that it's there in case you don't want people to know what it is, but they could already tell something is strange by the name, I feel? And it's hard to remember when you're in a heightened state of emotion. Other than that, a really superb app with a great design!
The concept is great and the UI is very calming and easy to navigate but I can't give a fair assessment of whether it works as it is inaccessible for me. I am non verbal during an episode and I was disappointed to realise that the app involves speaking aloud into your phone, which I was unable to do. Hopefully the devs will take this on board and consider adding an option for you to type answers to the questions.
It's quite helpful, and I really like the feature where it requires your password after just leaving the app for even just a moment. It can be a bit annoying to find a specific activity but it's usually quite fast and the ability to hide certain activities is extremely useful. I do wish the timers would continue even after exiting the app, and that when they finished the timer would have an alarm.
So far I love the app. I like that you can change the colours and personalise it. I do have one suggestion, after riding a wave could you make it possible to pick more than one reason for wanting to self harm? Sometimes it's more than just one thing, it could be feeling sad and stressed.. Thanks. This app is really nice, I'm glad I found it.
This app is really helpful however, I do still have some things I would change with it. When you're doing an activity, instead of having the 1 minute increments, you should either be able to do the 5 minutes all in one run or be able to change activities after the first block is up. The other thing I would change is the part where you select why you had the urge to self harm. I think that you should be able to choose multiple choices, as there is never only one reason why you wanted to self harm
I really like this app, it's been really helpful for me so far. The only thing that frustrates me are that the dates are crazy. I started using the app in late July, and it has my journal entries dated from February to May! I can't find anywhere to fix this, and it's a problem because I'll want to look back and see how I've been doing along my healing journey and its not accurate. Also, i would suggest adding the option to add custom reasons. Sometimes, my reason isn't any of those listed.
I can see why it helps some people but for someone like me who regularly harms I found it frustrating when needing a fast distraction I'm greeted with too much choice. In a crisis I need an instant distraction. Not a pick and choose from a long list. I found it overwhelming and did the opposite of what the app intends to do. Unfortunately not for me.
It's a good app overall but there could be a feature to change the app name as the name does look a little odd, and some people may want/need more privacy. EDIT: Also, it would really help if you had a search bar at the top of each list so that we could get to the task quicker with less delay.
I just started this app and it had me choose a password and a memorable word. I turned my phone off for a second and when I go back it says my information is incorrect. I am 100% sure that it is correct. I wouldn't have chosen another word or password. Can you imagine how frustrating this can be if I was having a suicidal thought at the moment and was counting on this app for help?
The app has an amazing selection of helpful activities, however for some reason it struggles to load up initially, as well as loading up things like the log. I've restarted my phone, force closed the app and reopened it, my next option is reinstalling it but if that doesn't work then I'm forced to try other apps, which may not give me nearly as many options for calming myself down so I don't self harm.
This is in my opinion one of the best mental health apps in existence and even though it is geared towards self harm reduction it works very well for anxiety and addiction too. I see the developers made one for anxiety but to be honest it was a disappointment after this one. Highly recommend, even comes with the option of a pin password for privacy just in case you have nosey parents and need a safe place just for you. Big thanks to the developers this is a great thing you have made.
Overall, this app seems highly effective in achieving its goal as additional care for someone receiving external treatment. Even without mental health treatment, this app can still be helpful, it is simply not intended to be used in place of professional care. The app uses a lot of techniques from various behavioral therapies and has many analytical functions that make it easier to categorize the users urges and feelings to see if there are any patterns.
The bright backgrounds are hard to look at for even short periods of time (and from an app that has activities that request you focus on the screen I can only recommend inverting your screen color until the devs add a dark mode) The app disables the back button in favor of their own which doesn't appear all the time The majority of the activities are terrible for a setting that requires you to be quiet, or when you're around others (such as a shared room with family at night)
It's a great app with many ideas sorted by purpose and time, and I like the design as well. I'd find it helpful if there were free spaces to write down your own ideas and coping skills and sort them into the categories!
This remains my favourite app by far for a few years now I belive- no ads, large variety of ways to cope which include examples, timers, a random selection if you're unsure, soft transitions, comforting aesthetic. It's well made and as someone who struggles w their mental health often, it's been a great tool <3
This can be really great for some people. I have tried some of this stuff on my own before discovering this app some things work for minor anxiety but nothing really works when I'm having a major episode and some of the things saying to draw designs and other stuff on the site would just make me crave cutting more. Other activities like trying to think of certain things or find words in phrases would increase my anxiety
It's amazing that you have made this app and even though most didn't work for me it was still good for others who did. My only real issue is the password feature. I remember many times where I have forgotten the password and memorable word and I just think that when I did get strong urges it would take time that sometimes I didn't have. Other than that this app is amazing and I would seriously recommend it to anyone.
This is password protected, which is great, except if you forget your password then you can only access the app using a memorable word. If you can't remember that, you can't use it. If you're in an emotional state, your chances of remembering are lower, which means when you need it most you can't use it. It's also not exactly interactive. It would be great if you had to *do* something with the app with the distraction activities.
I absolutely love this app its helped me so much. The only problem I have with it is that the timer automatically pauses when I exit the app which makes things a little difficult considering some of the activities require me to do stuff on my phone. It gets really frustrating because I have to try and avoid those specific activities otherwise it's a hassle but sometimes those are the only activities im able to do at the time so it just gets really frustrating
