The food database is very broad, which is awesome. But searching food is slow. If an ad comes on, it will totally freeze my app for a solid two minutes right in the middle of inputting my food. The time it takes me to input my food also eats up my data. There is a "recommended" list that you can check off quickly instead of searching. However, that list is generated at random based on what the app says you could eat, not based on the food the app sees you repeat, so it never helped me. There is a community on there for support, which would be great for someone who would like support. Overall, I thought the app was okay, but definitely could use some improvements.
This is an excellent app and I completely love the meal planning feature. Sparkpeople recommends foods (not just recipes) for each meal and snack. This is so helpful. If you don't like something in the meal plan you can really swap it for something else. UNFORTUNATELY you can't swap things in the Android app. It only works on a computer. This is frustrating. Why wouldn't features be the same? Please fix this. It's been like this for several years. Quite disappointing.
I tried this at the recommendation of a friend after I was unhappy with my last calorie counting app. It works well for the most part and I really appreciate being able to scan the barcodes of my food rather than inputting everything manually. However, what is the point of setting reminders to log food if I never actually got notifications? I've checked repeatedly make sure I have notifications enabled. I do but I have yet to receive a single one from the app.
I've used this app for years, and stick with it but it annoys me often. At peak hours it constantly locks up. I also don't like that there isn't the option to add extra nutritional information such as magnesium or iron or vitamin A, etc when you have to manually enter a food. I have to log onto the desktop version. It becomes too time consuming. I also don't see options to edit your orginal entry. You Havre to rekey in everything.
Very Useful. Would like fewer obtrusive and forceful popups. Would also like to have the ability to have a time code entered with each food/water/exercise entry. Some of us are trying to pay attention to certain patterns and also many of us have been told to try eating several small meals a day instead of the 3 bigs. Would also like a note section and the option to take and insert a photo in the entry as well. Thank you.
Not user friendly. Can't find where to change my weight easily as I lose. Refuses to recognize my password, and when you click on email me a password reset it never arrives. Really wanted to like this app, but it is too frustrating to deal with. After 48 hours I got an email and reinstalled the program got it working correctly and really like this app.
Seems like a nice app until you try to use the web version and then get back into the mobile app. The mobile app then tells you the password is not correct. Even deleting the app and reinstalling does not help. I tried the help files on the web and no good answer. Seems the sync between both versions is broken or the password stored on the phone is corrupt. No time to waste on making it work, what year is this? At least lose it syncs correctly.
I like that this app works with syncing my fitbit to it, but it has some issues. Sometimes when I scan something it will make the sound but nothing will come up. Other times it might scan the wrong amount, so I have scroll through a list to look for the correct amount, if it's there. If it's not I have to hit add food not listed and put the info in myself. This app also should have updates to help fix the glitches.
I really do enjoy this app. It encourages me and helps with my weightloss. I love the structure spark brings. I purchased the premium version but there are some issues that while not deal breakers are really inconvenient. 1. When using the meal plan, I cannot choose alternative options like on the website. 2. The premium videos need a real person speaking and not a computer. 3. I sometimes have trouble locating cool features after I've discovered them.
I really like the app. It does everything I need. however, after 3 or 4 days I started to get very frequent pop-up ads. It's disruptive when I'm trying to enter food. I also am a little annoyed - it feels deceptive that the ads would start several days after I started using it. just long enough for me to get comfortable and really like the app. I didn't do the free trial, so i doubt that has anything to do with it.
Wayyy too many ads! I don't mind a pop up that I can quickly close, but the 30 second videos that you can't close (unless you close the whole app and reopen it) have gone too far. The food library has deteriorated as well. Many of the calorie counts are wrong, and there are dozens of member added listings for the same thing. I am switching to Samsung Health, which doesn't have pop up ads, has accurate nutrition info and uses gps to calculate my speed, distance, and calories when I cycle or walk.
Ads are interruptive, long and annoying. I can't stand it, it freezes right before an ad and you can't skip them up until the very end of the ad. Ads pop up, right while you're trying to type a food item. It pops up when your changing the quantity. I used to LOVE this app, I recommended it to everyone. NOT ANYMORE!!! I'd give it zero stars if I could.
It's a decent app for fitness, but it's become so flooded with ads! The kind of adds that you're forced to watch too. Some run for up to thirty seconds before it lets you close them. This problem just keeps getting worse over time. It has me looking into different options for fitness apps and/or trackers. No, I am not downloading the premium. Like someone else said, that's just another way of ripping people off.
Previously I would have given this app 5 stars, I absolutely loved it and it helped me lose 100 lbs and counting, but just recently there are ads popping up that WILL NOT CLOSE. Specifically Home Depot ads. I hit the x to close it and it takes me to a prompt asking about why I don't want to see the ad anymore. I end up having to close out the whole app and reopen it to do more than one thing at a time.
The ads are so annoying that the free version is useless and the paid version doesn't offer enough to justify what it costs. EDIT: after the developer replied to my review, I decided to be a good sport and try their premium and see what I thought. I couldn't even get past the setting goals screen because the app kept giving me an error message. Rough start, guys.
Historically good, but getting worse by the day. I used to use SparkPeople as a simple calorie calculator and LOVED it for that function, but since they've added the longer video ads it's become less "worth it". I don't want to have to watch a 15 or 30 second video ad to log how many calories were in my egg-salad sandwich. Figure out a way to get ad revenue without these jarring commercial breaks, otherwise I will most likely delete the app.
All the ads are annoying. I don't mind the ones that are on the page but when you are trying to put information in and an ad pops up and you have to wait 12 seconds before you can finish...uhhhhh. I understand that ads keep things free...just think there is a better way to have them not interrupt your data search/entry.
the app "WAS" great, however recently that has changed. I no longer receive ANY notifications, even though I never turned them off. I used to get notifications but have not received any in almost a month. I posted on the actual websites message board regarding after noticing someone else was having the same issue. The suggested solution from Sparkpeople "have you tried turning your phone off and back on again". When I posted to the thread I was having the exact same issue (no notifications), I even included all the trouble shooting I did on my end (turned my phone on and off, checked to ensure I had my notifications option turned on in both app and my phone) and still was met with "did you turn your phone on and off"? When it was expressed that they needed additional usernames that were having issues, those were provided. Only to be met with "we need to know everyones OS". I am not going to reach out to people when that should be SP job. Clearly more then two people are having this issue. Highly disappointed in SP, don't ask for names and not follow up on your end by reaching out to those users yourself.
Sick of the ads. And I'm not paying for an app that doesn't have a calories burned option for stuff like Tabata and HIIT that's not running or a DVD series. It even lacks certain foods, even when you scan the barcode. Currently looking for a better option. And as of today (4/10), you put in your foods and come back 3 hours later and they've disappeared. Great.
