I've tried so many apps that state they stream local contact from my android device. Well from my experiences with the awful Allcast, and Realplayer (which only plays selected files, usually the ones I don't need). So far this has handled all media stored on my device, from downloaded shows to jpegs. Finally getting the use out of Chromecast. Will get the paid for version after I've trialled this for a week. Good work
Very Disappointed with this app and the misleading description of the app by developer.
If you can see it on your phone, this bare bones not-an-app will get it to your Chromecast as is. Formatting, intelligent handling of different resolutions, finding files, etc. - in short, everything needed to make this an app or even just a prototype or maybe alpha test - is still missing. Misleading description and in-app purchase for required features undermines developers' credibility. Raise the bar, developers, or Android stays a novelty.
I have the same results as Jerome Parker describes. I can only see one image. When I try to load a different image, the app acts like it is sending the next pic for a few seconds, and the image on the TV blanks for a second then reappears, as if a new picture had been loaded, but it's the same picture. The only way I can display a different picture is to shutdown and then relaunch the app. The picture quality is decent and the app looks like it might be useful if they fix this issue, but this is a blocking issue for me and renders this app useless.
Many of these reviews are misleading - Castaway is more reliable than the rest, and is NOT a waste of money (this version is free with small ads)! I highly recommend this to anyone with a Chromecast that wants to stream local media from their phone /tablet.
App looks fine and flows well, but I haven't been able to stream anything yet as it doesn't connect to my Chromecast (whilst all my other apps work perfectly.) Others are reporting a Chromecast icon in the top right corner of the app screen but there's nothing in that space at all for me. I've tried first connecting with the Chromecast app itself and then using Castaway...but no avail. Devs - would appreciate your feedback.
It connected, sent the first image but when I changed to the next images the tv just flickers and stays on the first image even though the phone is on another image. Uninstalling.
downloaded files need to be moved to gallery to be able to be played.took me days to figure that one. otherwise app doesn't cast my photos and videos only downloaded media.....but now it wont even do that. searching for better app now.
I can cast one photo. A swipe or exit and restart blinks the TV screen, but the first photo cast is the only one I see, on a Kenobi tablet, or a Samsung Galaxy Canberra 2
I had no issues with either of these. My complaint is two things: it is already ad supported, so why limit it to 2 images and 1 video for evaluating it? That is just annoying and insulting. It wasn't enough for me to do much with. Second, no sideshow? I don't intend to go thru manually selecting each image. A random sideshow across albums and accounts would make this interesting. (But increase the number of images and videos for evaluating. )
I tried this and Allcast and while they would connect to Chromecast neither would play local media.
Hopefully a fix will come out. Saw others with same issue in other reviews
It won't play my videos and most of the time it won't connect, I've tried a lot of solutions but it's just not responding. This app was working wonderfully like a month ago, I don't know what happened.
The only reason I install this app is because I wanted to use it for facebook. As soon as you try to launch Facebook after its installed doesn't work.
For facebook it only display your personal pics, you cant simply cast images on your feed.
It only plays the videos in your personal downloads, which I can do without this app and it only allows you 1 video then tells you to buy the full version.
Gets stuck on one local pic and wont change pic on chromecast. Tried facebook pics and it crashed on 3rd pic. Slow.
Just got this app and its brilliant. Works fine for me. Thanks a lot as it is so easy to just cast your photos and videos.
Need to manually click to play the next video. Good for individual video but not when you want a folder being played. Also can not play by folder.
The audio for the default video for my phone doesn't play. Video looks great just no sound. On a Casio commando 4g lte
Buffers more than in the early days of youtube. Also plays my video upside down.
I wish I could give this app a five star but unfortunately I can't I don't see the movies I want to watch till the next day but other than that when I'm able to watch the movie it runs very smoothly
It's a bit buggy but works better than AllCast in my opinion. But now that the Chromecast app can mirror my Note 3 screen, there's no need to keep this app
Can only look at one photo. When i swipe to the next photo it shows the same one over n over
This app wont let you cast movies or tv shows that are in mp4 or avi format. Doesnt matter the format of the video. Simply wont cast. Even after convering formats. Crap app that needs taken off.
This app displays landscape photos with correct orientation, but displays portrait photos sideways. This makes it unsuitable for purpose. (I have now identified other apps which work correctly.)
Loaded a MP4 video in Movies directory. All it can see is a video I captured on my Nexus 5. This app won't do it. Deleted. Next
The quality of picture is really good.. However.. My free version only allows me to view one picture. After every swipe I get the same pic. So I have to close the app and reopen just to see a different shot. If it performs like this in the free version I'm definitely not taking my chances with the $$ purchase version!
