Game play is pretty smooth and user friendly. The dice are beyond obviously rigged when playing against AI to the point I would put money on rolling a 7 if you have over 7 cards and are about to make a gamechanging play. Multi-player is much better about that but it can be slow when playing certain opponents. If they fix the dice on single player this gets 5 stars.
Please condense or simplify the total summary of all player stats during gameplay. The avatar pictures are too big and cover up the board. It is useful to see all stats during gameplay, but it's difficult to see the board at the same time. Please also slow down the popups when a player obtains resources, makes trades, buys a development card, etc. In real life the opponents would clearly see what is collected, traded, obtained, or played each turn. Otherwise, classic game and well done on mobile
Constant rejoining issues and it is selective in dice rolls. I play this game in real life with dice...and on my phone.. the phone version will select numbers and keep rolling them repeatedly. For example . In 25 turns it only rolled 4s 9s 3s and 11s. It's a decent game when it works but the dice inconsistency is pretty much a deal breaker. I wouldn't recommend buying until they fix the rejoin problems and the dice roll patterns
I love the board game and love the app--when it works. It frequently doesn't. The app regularly crashes on me--usually while I'm loading a game, sometimes when I'm mid-game. I never play live, and I use the suns to play free games. But when the app crashes while loading the game, I lose the sun (and thus need to wait another 12 hours before playing) and can't play. Very frustrating. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, restarting my phone, and clearing my cache in storage. Nothing really helps.
Generally pleased with the app. I don't use all the features (tournaments and some of the special scenarios), but it's a decent substitute for the actual board game now that kids keep me too busy to play table top. My one complaint is that any time I try to start a game while OFFLINE it uses my "sun," but won't start a game and then I have to wait another whole 12 hours. Really frustrating since the game claims to be an offline game.
Horrible gaming experience. Penalties are needed for the people that leaves the game early or simply flame others using chat or stickers during a game. The clock need to be sorted out in a way that players don't exploit it, wasting time, and forcing others to spend way too much time without doing nothing or worse, leave the game and look for another table.
UPDATE: since the update has been released game appears to be working again so far! Fingers crossed it lasts! *** I love this game but...it has started crashing every time I try and open it. It gets to the home screen then crashes. I have tried reinstalling and restarting with no success. It's really frustrating as it has worked great for months with no issues. I assume it's related to the new Samsung android updates... but I'm really disappointed and I hope for a very quick fix
Love this game. Awesome strategy. Was introduced to it on the physical board game. Loved it and wanted to play more, so got the app. The success and failure of trying to achieve your goals is a rollercoaster. Keeps me coming back. A while back, there were a few times when I had glitches with not being able to trade with other players , but that seems to have been fixed quickly. Good work Developers.
Love this game normally, but hasn't been able to load the game over the past few days. I've reinstalled and same issue. I can set up game play and pick a map (even the ones I paid for), but once it starts to load the game, the app crashes and you get kicked out. This needs to be fixed immediately! Update: thank you for the update! The update to the game fixed the issues and I'm happy to be able to play the game again on my Android device.
The game is indeed very enjoyable and fun, BUT! Some players are just so slow - i.e. if your opponent quits without exiting the actual game or gets a phone call or whatever you'd have to sit there and just wait for several minutes. EVERY round. I propose that you guys calculate an average active player's decision time including trade offers, etc. (usually no more than 12-15 seconds), and severely cut down the waiting time. Everything else is good though
I've been playing real Settlers for years and it is clear that unlike real Settlers, the dice rolling on this app is not random, but extremely reactive to the board- I.e. after a 7 is rolled it is almost always followed by the number that is blocked, when a player has 8+ cards a 7 is almost always rolled and there are near impossible streaks of unlikely numbers. Something is very fishy with the algorithm, it may try to weed out certain players for some reason.
Being able to play with your friends has never been so difficult and so unintuitive. Why does it have to be so hard to be able to invite your friends to play? This game could be so good but man the execution is just not there. Needs MAJOR work Update 1/2/22: I'm updating my initial review of the multiplayer from 1* to 5*. Everything runs really smoothly now.
Issues with app crashing still on-going. I have uninstalled, re-installed, cleared cache, cleared data, because I've uninstalled and re-installed, there is no update to update. Been more than 2 weeks now. There are so many other users with similar issues. I can get as far as the handshake and thats it. Just crashes. Just ridiculous. And the fact that it is not just isolated to me and you haven't provided any info of looking into the issue....what is the point???
The game app UI is good, but the way that it levels up AI is by rigged dice rolls and constant theft. Over the last 10 single player matches, the AI stole from me an average of 8.2 times independent of my VP total. That's unplayable. It's not comparable to real world play and incredibly frustrating. Also in multiplayer there's no incentive for players to pay attention and play quickly. Can't recommend and I regret my in-app purchase to get the basic game.
The game is fun, but just because the board game always has been. If you play agaisnt the AI it is only arbitrarily difficult. The frequency that 7 is rolled the second you have over 7 cards is astounding. Right at 7? No worries. It will roll so you get some more cards and THEN roll a 7 on the next turn. I like a challenge, but not like this. It just feels like lazy programming. Like they couldn't improve the AI so they just screw you to make it seem the veteran difficulty AI are harder.
I've come to the conclusion that this game is a waste of money. The random generator favors the computer players by a long ways. Having 11 rolled 5 times out of 7 And 3 and for rolled the others times to start the game. Or having the robber on you immediately. There is no strategy it's all chance in a fixed game. I've played about 50 games and whatever numbers I'm on don't get rolled. If I'm on 6,8,9 then 3,4 and 11 are rolled continuously and vice versa. This matter most early in the game.
Purchased the game few days ago. The game is extremely glitchy, and I have been kicked out multiple times when the board keeps freezing (as the turns are timer based), one time towards the end of the game i got kicked out mid turn, and I hadn't lost internet connection! Given that the games are long and the price point of the base game is high ($7.5) , the frequency of glitches are unacceptable Also there's a lot of collusion between the players which even despite reporting Catan does nothing.
I love Catan the board game and I would rate it 5/5, but unfortunately the dice system is awful...... there's nothing randomatic in it because most of the times the results are the same. I have played something like 10+ game and in most of the games, almost 80% of them, I've seen the same results like a pattern 5 / 9 / 8 and very few times the other numbers then 8 / 3 / 9 and so on. 2 stars until they fix it
I shouldn't have downloaded the game on my phone. I can't stop playing it again and again. Paid version opponents difficulty rating can be changed to increase the challenge and randomization. There are some minor ticks in the game, sometimes questionable exchanges and losses occur but what can you do? Overall, I'm enjoying this game.
The free version does make you a better player. The AI is predictable and the dice rolls are ridiculous. If you're able to beat or keep up with with the AI, you're going to do decent against other experienced players. It's not much different than going against AI from other strategy games. Overall, it's a great representation of the game.
I loove this game, bought several extensions and been playing for more, than a year. However, last week i tried to enter and saw black screen! The game does not load even after trying everything: clearing cache, data, deinstalling the game and downloading multiple times, giving all the permissions to the app, I even rebooted my phone hoping it would work! Only it doesn't. I am using Galaxy S20. Sending feedback several times to the support had no effect either. I just don't know what to do!
I'm updating my initial 4 star review to 1 star because it has been over a week that i haven't been able to play due to the game constantly crashing on me. It had at least gone from crashing right away to only when I start a game. I keep being told by customer care to download version 2.8 when i can't because it doesn't give me the option to update more than 2.2.8.
Have to re-enter my password every time I open the app. The braindead AI plays stupidly but is 'very lucky'. The complete game to be able to play in all modes cost me €66.29 EUR for all avatars, expansions and scenarios, but after registering an account, the game does not recognize the purchases and wants me to pay again. E-mails to customer service with proof of payment are not being answered since more than a month. Being patient is a mistake with these guys, request your refund while you can.
A big mixed feeling about this app. On one side it's very complete and the multiplayer mode is a nice feature. but there is a lof of work to be done in term of stability and user interface. You can get kicked out of a 2 hours multiplayer game without any reason and it's not possible to come back. Sometime you cannot invite your friend in a party because the application think that he is already playing a game. TL:DR single player is great, multiplayer needs some attention.
