Too much fluff, too little news. Even worse than the previous version. No option to turn off opening animation or adjust text size. Poorly organized. Articles repeat in app. No updates on holidays and long weekends. Too many "contests," surveys and station-promoting fluff. I used this app to check the local news when I'm out of town, and it's become almost useless.
This app is a huge disappointment. No matter what I did it would not send the desired notifications. It would not even let me star items of interest. I installed and uninstalled multiple times. I can view articles on the app but no notifications. No breaking news, nothing. I have this app on my iPad and it is fine. Obviously the android version is the problem.
Don't like the ad-based vids. That said, it's the news and it's free and where I want it. On my tablet and on demand.
Can't turn off auto play 😒 fluff news and filled with nothing but ads. You shouldn't be allowed to call this news
Hard to tell ads from news. Sometimes goes for days without refreshing content. Text is so poorly edited at times it is hard to figure out the intended meaning. On the plus side, the content is hyper local and relevant.
Way too slow!! Plus "closed caption" text, on top of videos, makes them hard to watch. Also, way too many ads! Liked the prior version better. Make it fast and clean, like Google news.
This app is a great tool for watching the San Diego news! The only thing that it's missing is the ability to install it on android TV, like other CBS news from other parts of the country. Casting can sometimes be a little choppy.
Good lord... I know News 8 is proud of its new look, but do I really have to watch a 5 second graphic intro every time I open the app?! Good morning, good afternoon, good evening.... Nobody wants to see that. And the weird font is too small, and really just plain hard to read, even on a massive phone.
No problem with the app always able to keep up with San Diego news.
Completely lacks depth, content, and is far from intuitive. Pretty useless. It's obvious that the station is not reading these reviews and doesn't care. Whoever created this app and is responsible for improvements should be fired IMHO.
The site works very erratically. There are days when it doesn't work at all, and much of the information is very very outdated. it's not being kept up-to-date. The old site worked much more efficiently and was more easily accessed.
My favorite News channel, I love everyone on the crew. 👍
Great local news provider now in app form!
I like the local CBS 8 News, but very disappointed with the national news. They are much too biased especially Gale King. I never seen or heard anything about the children saved from trafficking, but boy do hear about little Tyron and his goings on. Not only are the news casters biased on the political side but the racial side as well. Sometimes I think I'm watching a broadcast from Africa. I have always been brought up to believe that newscasters were supposed to be professional.
I have already deleted it, hated the fact that it ate up my battery even when it was plugged into the charger. Previous version was my go-to app for local news and weather.
Wow this is a nice app I like it now as far as news 8 I used to live in San Diego little over 40 years ago and I can tell you news 8 hasn't changed that much except with new anchors over the past 40 years or so so what I like about it is I think this is better now I can actually find out what's going on in San Diego without having to leave home in Seattle
Mary poor quality video quality did not adjust correctly kept giving me commercials after commercials I couldn't even get live footage by the time the news was live it was over
This app was useful when it pushed local news alerts, but lately they send all these messages wanting you to vote in silly polls. Uninstalled this and now will look for a local news station that doesn't treat push notifications like a Twitter account.
News alerts used to be great. Covering only truly breaking news or major events/traffic/weather alerts that would affect San Diego. Now im being spammed with March Madness alerts.
app is annoying - Notifications are broken. Have them turned off in the app except weather and now get news notifications. Now had to block all notifications thru android - probably should just uninstall
Ever since I installed this version of News 8, I cannot get some of the stories seen on TV. Also where is the Hot Button now? I do not consider this user friendly .
I have watched news8 for years & years! I like the way they present the news & Shawn's weather & holiday recipes! Everyone seems like part if the family! I NEVER watch any other news!
This is the slowest loading app on my phone with android 10 and after loading it keeps flasing for 5 seconds and then becomes normal.
People need to be informed that News 8 is free app. There is no cancellation fee. If anyone says that they are misinformed.
Use to love this app. After the update very little news. Not updated enough. Switched to abc 10 san diego instead.
CBS News 8 has taken it up a notch, to a new level of local news excellence. And boy does it show! A series of exciting new hires has fueled the improvement, while tried and true features like "Verify" and "The Zevely Zone" continue to be very compelling. John Howard's revamped Sports Department is now the best in the market, and their Weather forecasting has always been number one! I'd say News 8 is great...and they've toppled 10 News as a result.
