The best dictionary I've ever used as a student of literature. It contains many old, archaic words that you can encounter in old works of literature and can't find them in other dictionaries nowadays. The definitions are short, quick and easy to understand. My only problems are the lack of voiced pronunciation, and the fact that you need a separate thesaurus app to look up synonyms. Chambers dictionary and thesaurus should be one app. Other than that, excellent app to use alongside wordweb.

Shorter OED contains twice as many words (they say) but does not even have the widely used 'beefcake'. So, Chambers, crossword puzzlers favourite, I'm going with you. Simple interface and the X-ref function is very nice. I don't need usage examples in a dictionary so your lack of them isn't an issue for me, but may be for others. Better etymology would be great, but not essential.

This is my favorite British English dictionary app. It is especially helpful to me as an American when reading books from the UK. It has a great feature to help find answers for crossword puzzles when you only know a few letters. In addition to the dictionary, I highly recommend the Chambers thesaurus app. They are a wonderful word pair well worth the cost!

I'm sure it's me, but I find the Chambers Dict and Thesaurus (both Pro) almost impossible to navigate without Wordweb - which is fine I suppose but everything falls apart when I need to search from online editors - which is most of the time. Integration with Twitter is good but other apps are persnickety.

Really hate the new app icon - old one I recognised at a glance and it looked good; new one I have to focus on it to think what it is, and it's dull, dull, dull. Old one is fine within the app icon guidelines as long as you keep it within the clipping mask bounds with a clippable background. Please re-think: this new icon just makes the app disappear into my home screen, it's so non-distinctive especially given the 5 other apps I have which are mainly just red backgrounds, but they actually have something distinctive to a glance on the backgrounds which yours does not, but the previous icon with the angled view of a book did. Truly terrible decision to change. Makes me wish i hadn't paid, if you are going to stick with this awful app icon. Taking off the five stars I'd give with the old icon. May well come back adn take off another star or two.

For several decades, the Chambers 20th Century Dictionary was the favourite in our home. It had the easiest phonetics guide of any dictionary and provided excellent etymological information. The app version is very good - would be even better with audio pronunciation.

Instead of displaying reference applications data of that application be used so that meanings are displayed immediately rather than opening it altogether. Consider the example of ABBYY Lingvo dictionary. What I'm asking for is a better coordination between the applications. Thanks!

Very pleased. I love that I can easily get to word definitions from other apps, and the x-ref feature fits very well with the Chambers Thesaurus. Well worth the money.

Very good dictionary. The facility of a speaker button to pronounce a word would have been an added advantage.

The Chambers was the dictionary on our family bookshelf since before I was born. I think my mum was recommended it at university. I must have been one of the first users when it appeared on the iPhone and I'm more than happy to fork out another £7 for it now I've switched to Android. It is truly pulchritudinous (the first word I needed to look up on it :-)

Disappointed that I can't find a way to add cross reference apps. I've added xref websites, but where I've got the app I want to be able to use it. Five stars of this gets sorted.

New search facility - great! But I typed rec* and recto was not in the list. But it was in the dictionary. What's that all about?

Simply the best! I have the printable version, and now I have the Android app. I'm happy! 😊

The suggested searches that popup on right are ugly and annoying

Very useful. Comprehensive and fully English.

The only downside is that it becomes very tempting to cheat when doing crosswords.

It transpires that the dev thought IPA too difficult for people, so he made up his own! /dh/ = 'th' in 'the'. 👀 The arrogant, conceited tool.

I bought my first Chambers dictionary in 1973 ("New Edition 1972") and I have used it much over the years. The best one volume English dictionary I have found. I have used it as an app for almost three years and it is as good as ever

I use this every day for crossword solving, however recent discussions with people using the IOS version seem to suggest that the two are not the same. There are certain definitions in the IOS version that don't appear in this one. Can someone verify this? Edited (09/10/2019): I was wrong. The specific example I was looking at (the entry for 'blue') caused some discussion in a blog and one commentator who uses IOS said that 'squander' was a secondary definition. I couldn't find it in my app, but after much scrolling it turns out that yes, it is there after all, so I'm reassured.
