The graphics are a bit old (low resolution).
I just wanted to play go and got hustler run around, but no go. Total RIP off
The best around hands down.
Computer levels could be kyu & dan
Nicely presented but very predictable in move selection. Feels to me, a humble 1kyu, more like an old-style engine than a state-of-the-art Monte Carlo engine, but I'm probably wrong about this. Someone should lend it a copy of '38 Basic Joseki' for a start! It also has a rather aggressive playing style and it would be great if it could offer a range of styles. It also needs to stop trying to cut bamboo joints and to learn the difference between sente and kikashi.
This is the strongest go playing program on Android, and at the same time the worst Go app ever written for Android, using a screen resolution and a menu navigation style that hadn't been seen since the 80s.
It is one of the best existing programs to play go...
The crazy stone engine is not bad, compared to GNU Go, but it's play style is still way too mechanic to be enjoyable. It always tries to win by smallest possible margin, resigning every time it starts to lose, doesn't punish obviously bad moves unless you choose the strongest level. On weak levels it mostly plays random moves and resigns at random, which is really boring. It always opens handicap games in exactly same way: If you play a 2 handicap game on 9x9 against it, it will always start by playing 4-4
Please Add a Play Again button in medal mode with a same setting please, it kills me when everytime I want to play again, and I need to get through several options.
I pay for the sub and expect it to be at least at 5d level... why can I still be able to beat it in the even game when I was only kgs 1d :/,
Strong engine but makes strange plays in the opening sometimes. Also, what was the latest update? No mention if it was bug fixes or the long awaited landscape mode which it was not....clue us in on what we are downloading ffs.
It was good but the better one is available. Even the free lite version of its successor is stronger than this dated app. Search for 'Crazy Stone Deep Learning' instead. === Previous review === It's actually a downsized version of one of the best two computer go programs. The other one is Zen but it doesn't have mobile app available. So this app, Crazy Stone, has the strongest AI among mobile device apps without doubt.
WOULD IT KILL YOU TO ADD A "PLAY AGAIN" BUTTON? Seriously, having to navigate through several menus every time you start a new game is amateur hour. Other than that, it's OK.
Amazing app, but does not evaluate seki correctly
Months past and still no HD version..
Good graphics and input method
Strong fundamental Go program, but UI is only suitable for phones. No landscape orientation, lo-res skin... looks pretty gnarly on my NotePRO 12.2. Provide an HD skin with panorama option and you're five star.
I had been using Go Droid which uses the GNU Go engine, and was beginning to beat it with some regularity. Then I switched to Champion Go which made me feel like a complete beginner again! Today I beat it with a 4 stone handicap and no undo's. It will be a long time before I can beat it without a handicap, and that's a good thing. I like the default tap-zoom interface. As others have mentioned, the rest of the UI is a little clunky and unpolished. Also, I would love for saved game records to be public on the device so that I can copy them when I like. It supports an option to email a game, so there is at least one way to get them. The territory view button is helpful, but the back button should take it down. The Options dialog respects the back button, so the "Back" button there is unneeded. The bouncing animation used for most dialogs is really annoying. Please at least give an option to turn that off. Removing the Options back button will provide enough space for that. I like the idea of an atari warning, but as implemented it is distracting and not helpful. Better would be to use a colored overlay on all ataried stones or perhaps a small yellow triangle. Overall, great app!!
So far it's the best and the strongest go app i've found for android, but yet it would be nice if it were at least 1-2k stronger. And it makes some strange moves on yose stage (most of the times, it's easy to catch 15 points).
Based on the CrazyStone engine (solid 5 Dan rating on KGS server) this app plays a good game of Go. The interface could do with a little polish, but it does the job and doesn't get in the way.
I have the desktop version too. Android play is 1-2 kyu Interface very functional.
Strong AI (2k?), poor tablet UI, but thats not really a problem.
I am 1 dan can play it on the hardest level and easily beat it blitzing. For the money I expect more.
Excellent engine that will get you close to 1 Dan. Subscription is pointless right now because every computer move takes 20seconds
This go program is strong and the app has many options, but it is missing some key features. I would like an option to automatically save my games to the app, the letters along the top should be on the bottom and read left to right and the numbers should go up chronologically, the app should have higher resolution, add more time options (customisable), strength options would preferably be traditional. Besides that, good app.
On 19x19 board this app is surprisingly strong even on just my dual-core Asus Transformer tf101 (it plays as a 6 dan on KGS using a multicore cluster). I estimate its strength at level 10 on a 19x19 board to be KGS 2-5 kyu. However, it does make some strange reading mistakes that a human being at that level would not likely make. I imagine that giving the computer more time to think might fix this problem. Note re. "wmshub" review: You have to explicitly save a game in progress using the "stored games" menu option. I agree that the navigation of the UI could use a bit of polish, but it's nothing catastrophic.
Very strong AI at lightest program level. Board 9x9 about KGS 3dan ,13x13 KGS 1dan , 19x19 KGS 2k. Only one bad thing is the high level program is taking so much time per move. Although, this is the best go program in android
This is a great program. I can win maybe one in four games on 13x13, and I play better than 5 kyu (I hit 1d at one point on kgs). It is probably kgs 1d strength. Great for intermediate players. The UI could be improved but who plays computer go for the UI? You play go for go, and this implementation's got it.
Absolutely wonderful. Large skill range, and options to ease stone placement on mobile devices. Only thing i would like to know is the estimated skill (in kyu or dan) of each of the "levels" as they are only listed as "level 1 - level 9"
