Chess Openings Wizard
The app is based on the Bookup program that first came out in 1984. It has full editing and training power like its brethren apps on Macintosh and Windows.
Openings can be moved back and forth to the Macintosh, Windows, and iPad versions using a free Dropbox account.
Chess Openings Wizard does not play chess, nor does it come with a game collection or a vast opening overview. (There are many free apps that do those things.)
Chess Openings Wizard is meant for designing openings for White and designing defenses for Black, and then testing the player on his or her knowledge of the lines by playing mock games.
Some sample ebooks are included, but the most important ebook is the one you make for yourself.
A free chess engine server program can be run on Macintosh or Windows to allow your Android to use the latest and strongest UCI engines for live analysis. (The Android device and the server must share the same WiFi connection.)
The short version is: if you are designing an opening with either a game database app or with a playing program, you're working too hard. Chess Openings Wizard contains 34 years of refinements, with precisely the tools that a serious tournament player requires to prepare openings fast. Chess Openings Wizard is a mobile companion app for the same program on Windows and Macintosh. With it you can move your opening repertoire onto your device (Android and iPad) and prepare anywhere.

I've been waiting YEARS for this app, thank you Mike! This app is designed for your tablet or ipad not your phone; dispite this I tried it on my phone (Samsung S9+) and found it works. The only issue is some of the buttons are on top of each other and its hard to download your premade ebooks from dropbox. I was able to get it to work and love it! I now have access to my complete repertoire and can train anytime I have a free moment...what more could you want?!!
Great companion app for the desktop version. Excellent product support too from the developer. The only minor improvement would be the functionality to import files via the file explorer on Android devices; although transferring files via Dropbox works well.
A great chess app. The interface still needs a little polishing, but this is the Desktop version of Chess Opening Wizard, with all the key learning functionality maintained. Quite a feat of programming. Well done Mike!
Mike has fixed the latest Android version issues and it works amazingly well since the fix has just been rolled out. Thanks Mike, and amazing app and COW products!
Version 56 doesn't work, app doesn't load.
There are all sorts of chess training programs out there. Cheese Openings Wizard is unique and a must have tool for anyone looking to study openings. You'll practice openings with various replies so that you are prepared for any game. There's nothing like it.
This is an awesome tool for preparing opening lines. Put in your moves and go over them and practice makes perfect! I am very impressed.
I've used the desktop version of Chess Openings Wizard for years, and was a beta-tester for this version. It is so convenient to have all my opening books on my tablet and phone and be able to use COW to do my opening prep on the train to work or any time that I am standing in a line.
Very useful app. Simple and good. I used Bookup in the late 90s, and this app is useful in exactly the same way. Thanks for bringing it to Android! :)
Recently I purchased COW for my tab. It's excellent for use and for preparing openings. But I have a problem that I cannot open Pgn file to COW. Now a days everything we get in pgn file. Please make it possible to to convert Pgn file to COW. Thanks
It feels like this app is meant as a companion app for the desktop program and not intended as a stand alone product. That's not a bad thing just not what I'm looking for.
Love it. Would give a five if the chess engine problem is fixed. Could not load chess engine for analysis.

Yes I got it...this is all I need in chess so far I have a lot of chess apps installed in my phone but this is the best of the best app..🤗
