The UI and the UX of this game looks and feels like something that's from early 2000s. It's bad. Honestly looks so outdated. Dull. he control for moving the chess, the integral part of the game, feels very.. I don't know how to describe it, but maybe 'slippery'. It's doesn't feel snappy, and really unsatisfying when you move the pieces around the board. It badly needs an overhaul of the looks and the feel of the app.
Bad functionality for a chess app. Multiple bugs, terrible multiplayer infrastructure as far as handling the data goes. Theres 0 reason a chess board, representative of less than 64 bytes of data should take over 1000ms to send to the other player, especially on a premove (shouldnt this be qued by the server to the other players client to make the move instantanious as intended by the person moving???). Can't play competitively with such a huge time advantage for opponent. Ill find a better app.
Frustrating interface. There is a sluggish board interface that becomes ever sluggish as the game progresses, losing you time and eventually games. When the game passes the 15 -20 moves line , the interface all of the sudden slows down and it takes more than a second for it to respond to your move. Even selecting no move animation doesn't do the trick. Sorry but unplayable.
App is ok for the most part. Tactics trainer is buggy and sometimes engine does not work when doing analysis. Expect at least 1 out of 10 puzzles not to load with a message that tells you to check your internet connection. It will eventually load if you keep refreshing but it's extremely annoying.
It keeps freezing leaving me unable to make any moves and when the timer runs out it's always me who loses. I've lost several games because of this. I had it installed for a long time before this even started. Reinstalling it didn't help at all. I was enjoying it before that but now it's unplayable.
It is a nice one, but some problems are horrible. Registering says check your email in a few hours!? Who will wait that out. (It never came up though, had to sign in with Facebook. Also there is a lack of time controls and the game clock is placed such that you need to take your eyes completely off the board. But other features are really nice.
Who designed this app? It is so difficult to move pieces and so easy to blunder. The pieces won't move to the squares one wants them to. Since this is a chess app, it is a major problem. I already lost 4 games over a total of 16 because of this problem. Chess24 has been around for 7 years and it's simply ridiculous that this app is all they can come up with.
Couldn't watch the match or load tournaments or live shows. Logged out. Now it won't let me log in. Tried to use email to get login details and it has an error doing that too. Very disappointed. I'd rather pay $79 a year for something else.
What happened. I have the same issues as some others. Castling doesn't work. Timer gets stuck. Pieces don't show up. I lost a few games now and start to get really frustrated. Used to like this app and chess24, but I'll look somewhere else now.
I only have this app because it is the only option there is. But the connectivity is really poor, while I have connectivity and am watching some live stream on the background it always takes a few minutes for it to load the tournaments avaiable, and also keeps giving error messages so I need to keep hitting retry. The engine evaluation also keeps pausing for no reason.
If only this app can be improved I would become a premium member. There are so many crashes and things not working as they are supposed to that it's not supposed to be a release version. I usually don't bother for app reviews but this app makes me so frustrated every time I use it that I have to raise the issue. Please totally revamp this app. It's sluggish, crashes often, doesn't load games 6 times out of 10. If you didn't host the Carlson invitational event I would uninstall this in 5 minutes.
App is very good but i have some problem 1 sometimes your clock time ends before time is it a bug or company tactic to player rating adjustment. 2 there is no any policy mentioned on site about how the decide the ranking because when you lost system decrease more points from ranking. And when you win system increase only little points in ranking. Other wise good app
There seems a bug. It's happening from past few days. I start a game and after some moves the I keep waiting for opponent to make a move and his timer continues to end. And in the end I happened to lose the game. Please debug it.
Of course the limited features of non premium is a bit annoying but it is way better than being bombarded with ads. But overall the app is amazing , nice looking , straight forward and offers a lot of services. Would recommend.
I'm a premium member and think it's well worth the money even though I use my membership only for watching live games and for the video series. This app though is poor. It crashes when clicking tournament standings and the engine works sometimes and not others. Thank goodness I don't try to play using this app!
Please add the option to add friend and challenge them as in web version. One more feature which is in web version, but not in android is the option to watch current games of top ranked players. Otherwise, it's the best chess app I have come across.
You can abort every game you get black peices. There is no consequence to searching for a game then taking an extremely long time to take the 1st move, or just never taking it. In which case you just wait for them and abort eventually. Crashes every time you leave the post game screen open and come back to the app after some time
One of the worst chess app i have seen. Their entire selling point and business model is basically based on one person that is Magnus Carlson and buying GMs which doesn't work if you have a interface from the 1800s. As if the interface wasn't bad enough it's extremely slow and it's just frustrating for someone who has played on platforms like lichess to return back to the days of MSN
For those who get stuck while timer keeps running, it seems the problem appears after your opponent castles. You can continue the game online (web) in order to avoid loosing. Fix is needed quickly chess24.
This app is just disappointing. I can watch live game here which is really cool. Other than that, no good side literally. Poor interface, got only 3 dull themes. Too many connection loss during games. Improve or give up. Continuing like this is embarrassing!
Unfortunately very buggy app. I installed it to watch video lectures on my Android. It turned out crushing frequently, not showing evaluations and having a serious lack of user-friendly interface. Same story on iPad.
Best tool to check on current tournaments - but certainly not good. UX and UI are entirely neglected, drains a lot of battery on the background. If improved to the standards of any decent similar app, I am sure many people would buy premium
The best chess app on the planet. Not on Saturn though. Rather not talk about it. However, on God's Green Earth, it's unbeatable. Love having the ability to watch others play chess. My game keeps improving because of this and the many other features that lichess comes with. Kudos!
Scam. Don't become a premium member, they don't cancel your membership even if you send emails and they charge you forever. The app is clumsy, if you download videos these are deleted randomly. The player pool above 2500 is bad, impossible to find opponents Vs for example lichess. The only good content is on YouTube ( or streaming and Copa dirachera)
Good chess app. But it takes too long to find an opponent even in a large rating range. In other apps it takes only like 3 secs so please fix this issue. Other than that everything is great.
Just compare with other competitors i.e. Lichess and ChessCom. They have better interface, FREE engine analysis, faster servers, and you can download your games for FREE. What do you get in chess24 instead? NOTHING! You cannot even download your game's PNG!!! You make something a premium feature when it costs you either in software implementation or maintenance. Is it really hard to implement or it costs you too much that you made it as a premium feature?! I am done with Chess24.
it's a good chess app but the fees are too high. There are other apps out there that are free and offer similar services, certain features even better..... i.e. followchess allows you to select a certain player from the live or recent tournaments and download all his games, etc.
It's frustrating - this is really close to being a 5 star app but its bugs let it down. I use it for following the games in tournaments for which it is pretty good, and for its tactics trainer. The main problem with the app is that the engine will suddenly stop working and there is no obvious way to get it started again. I'm happy to be a premium member and use the app casually when I'm travelling, but for a serious session it has to be a browser on a PC. Shame, because the app is almost there.
