[EDIT 2021-04-12: app became extremely slow (especially the animations) after the last update, it's unusable now :(] Extremely good app to practice chess puzzles anywhere using your phone, and in the free version the ads aren't really aggressive. A button to confirm the moves would be greatly appreciated for people who have the tendency to mis-tap.

This is a very good course! The tactics puzzles showcased in this collection is THE ABSOLUTE BEST SET I HAVE FOUND SO FAR. Only Susan Polgar's Chess Tactics For Champions has a set as good as this. Why is it good? The tactics are common and will appear in games. For instance there are numerous endgame tactics and opening tactics that say focus on the f7/ f2 square. However, this cannot be the first set you do. It's too difficult. It's practical for 1200-1800 players and should be memorized.

A little more difficult than volume 1, but still very simple if you're more than a beginner. Great repetitive training for beginners. Great for pattern recognition. Great interface and controls. A lot of the problems come from blunders in games of young players. No theory in this Chess King product, only exercises. Good value if you're a beginner.

The application is geared towards beginners. You can have a blast playing the whole set once you aquire the full version or you can play it free with a limited set of tactics. When you're stuck you're offered a hint and if you still don't understand then it will play out the move for you - maybe a spoiler for some but you can replay it later if you want. Nevertheless a great app for learning the beginning of chess tactics as advertised.

This is great for practicing checkmates. It gives scenarios in which a single move can checkmate the other player and, if you miss it, teaches how to make the right move. It's hard! I'm a beginner and I almost never see the solution. Even after working out what seems like every possible move, I still often miss it. I know that as I get better at the game, I'll get better at this and I suspect that the reverse is probably true. I'm just not there yet.

At 7 hours on tests, my rating is falling steadily. Yes, mastery comes with time but problem is there is no hint/help with how to assess positions for whatever it is an advanced player looks for. Is there a method or do they see every possibility and their outcomes? I also don't understand the meaning of the color-coded arrows, so the hints don't help me correct my moves. AFTER the solution is revealed, then I can see why it is correct, but have not learned a generally applicable technique

Puzzling move choices intended to teach integrated tactics with some really odd logic. Many times your more powerful pieces are sacrificed for questionable gain. Good pinning exercises but the problems show pieces in very, very odd, uncoordinated and unlikely positions to begin with, leaving me to question the validity of the excercise. Also, sometimes when you could take the opponent piece with perhaps 3 of your pieces, the one the exercise selects doesn't make any sense. Not sure why ?

The puzzles go from too easy to way too difficult without any explanations. I'm a beginner and would like things to be more progressive. I would recommend this probably for intermediate players.

Very good app for beginners. Good learning experience. Only negative thing is the rating system which is unfair. For one wrong move lot of points are deducted whereas for correct move very less points are given. Please provide an option in settings to disable popup of rating. Otherwise an excellent app.

Probably the best teacher you'll ever get on your phone. After extensive studying and research I've found it's simply best to study tactics instead of openings/main lines. Quit memorizing lines and switch to tactical studies and I can assure you your game will improve significantly. I've been ripping off my friends pieces lately now that I have a better grasp on these forks and tactics/forcing moves.

This is a good example of a UI designed by a coder. No designer worthy of that name has ever touched this interface. I haven't figured out what to do, where to go nor where I came from. The UI contains cryptic signs with no explanation what it means. Maybe this is the first lesson of the app. Once you figure out how it works learning chess can only be a breeze.

EDIT 4/28/21: UNINSTALLED--too many glitches, WAY TOO MANY PERMISSIONS.// EDIT: 4/27 So far on "Capturing A Knight", three out of 23 times I was told my answer was wrong only to be shown that my answer WAS correct, but it was still marked as incorrect. This seems to be a glitch for this particular app.// Not for newbies. Great practice for folks who know the basics of chess (how to set up board; where pieces go, how they move, their value, e.t.c.).

I like the puzzles, they increase in difficulty but not too crazy, the puzzles are well built. It shows you what happens if you make a wrong move. Still have to think about it sometimes to understand, but it's an extremely useful feature. I also like the alternative scenarios. It's very thorough, and I am definitely learning.

Puzzles designed to teach specific tactics. 200 free puzzles and about 1000 more when you pay. I really feel like I'm getting better at chess much more than other random chess puzzles. Also, great built in game analyzer so you can try out different moves and counter moves to make sure you really understand the puzzle.

Max. K. Apr 9, 2020

Good but just doesn't see sacrifices that come with check. Sometimes it even makes you play out entire lines when a much easier line would achieve the same result if a check sacrifice was made. It's super annoying, but other than it's a pretty good app.

Jos. Q. Mar 29, 2019

The idea is good, but all the effort of the creators goes to waste once you cant ramdomize or mix the exercises, since all are separated in chapters and knowing the title makes it easier to identify what the solution is. Answer: Thank you.

Really solid tactics puzzles. Decently written app too. I wish there was some way to get a bonus for getting puzzles right on the first try, as you can just try again if you fail. I also wish the family of other chess teaching apps it's tied to weren't ridiculously expensive or I'd buy them all. If you are a chess beginner, this app by itself is well worth the price.

Thank you for a great stuff for studying playing chess! Really like it. One minus for me - its difficult to find where white and where black figures - they look the same. Black better to draw exactly Black colour, without white lines. Thank you)

A great introduction to this complicated game. lots of variations and feedback on where you've gone wrong. Could do with a little bit more instruction on how to use the app but generally impressed.

A. G. u. Jan 24, 2019

I really like CT for beginners. I can use the app anytime I have some free time. It's helping me improve spotting tactical shots and thus helping improve my game . I highly recommend for players seeking to improve their game.

Mik. I. Jan 20, 2020

Solid. I like the amount of help it gives you, but I wish the answers were a bit more clear. Several times I didn't see why the 'solution' was advantageous. Better than two other chess apps I tried though, you won't be disappointed.

Kei. A. B. Mar 13, 2019

Has very quickly improved my game from absolutely terrible to just awful. I love it. Well set up, well structured, logical and challenging enough to carry you through. An excellent app all round.

A long progressive series of challenges. I am really enjoying them and learning lots along the way. I'll buy more once I have finished these... there are lots though so it's taking a while

Jay. H. Dec 28, 2019

A great way to practice chess problems. Even the free part is very useful. I love the hints and the fact that you can come back to the problems that you missed earlier and try them again.

Pat. S. Jan 8, 2022

Interesting and helpful problems , a wake up exercise for someone who tends to overlook possible counter moves.. I am mainly learning for myself, but I hope to improve enough to offer an interesting game..

Pra. N. Nov 14, 2019

Excellent app for learning chess tactics. There are a lot of exercises and each exercise emphasis a tactic or a combination of tactics. Great for beginners!

Jac. B. Dec 20, 2019

It has definitely helped explain tactics that have improved my game. My 2nd grader has improved too, with the progressively difficult challenges. Highly recommend.

I'm finding this a good refresher for chess. The puzzles are interactive rather than static, the objectives are different and the complexity varies. I'm enjoying the challenge. Well done!
