One of the best app to train openings, endgames and tactics. Interface can be a little bit cryptic, especially for openings but once you get used to it, there's nothing better on the market. Tactics are a strong point here, because they tend to emulate real positions, so it's not always about mate in 3 or 4, but sometimes doing the only move that takes you out of the danger.
Very nice app. the best repertoire creator out there. very laggy especially when training openings with many trees. scrolling through the tree is a pain. some writings on repertoire stats are stacked ontop of each other. when i click on the 3 lines at the bottom of the board some options don't work. no way to enlarge engine window. shows tiny window at bottom of screen(barely vissible). app needs serious polishing around the edges. looking forward 2 next update. good job so far.
Rated 5 stars because the devs are replying sincerely to all feedback. But one request : The piece moving animations aren't smooth. They lag every time. Please fix this. Edit : Thanks for the reply! But I've installed Lichess too. It's super smooth with no lags and glitches. I can post a video to show the difference between two, if you want.
The web version has soo much more functionality and options to customize what kind of problems you want to attempt. If you are a premium user always use the web version as the app is very limited to enjoy the full benefit of the premium membership. Kindly look into making the app as good as the web version as I got frustrated with the inability of the app to customize problem tactics which is a major reason why one upgrades to premium.
Love learning and testing my skills with this app. It has it's small flaws though: 1) Some puzzles are rated inaccurately, 2) the navigation of the different modes is quite confusing and clunky, 3) many features are hard to understand and could use labels. Overall it could use a polish up with a nicer interface but otherwise I haven't actually found a chess app like it. It's awesome going through its puzzles and having your progress and rating recorded. Hope it keeps receiving updates!
Terrible gui, tiny cryptic buttons, you press on one they expand to other cryptic buttons, no explanation what they do... can't enable engine analysis no matter what I try... great puzzles, abysmal interface... why are buttons so tiny and clustered into a small pile with so much empty screen around? So easy to hit the wrong one. Manual has no pictures, just text, impossible to figure out the options. The board has color palletes that are trying to eat your eyes, can we have something less toxic?
I rate it 3 star becuase I truly care for this app to improve. I train on the website mostly, but I find navigating through the app very difficult relative to the website. But overall, the puzzles are great the engine is fabulous, opening trainer is wicked. Just have to fix the little things. I am ready to change the review anytime they improve it well
Use blitztactics instead. I've used all kinds of chess software for 20 years. This is the worst and most frustrating by far. Maybe the desktop version is ok. I like that you can comment on problems, but even that isn't implemented well. Actually my own chessboard app was worse, if I can count that.
Recurring monthly subscription fees to bleed customers dry ad infinitum, without a possibility to purchase the software once and for all. Given the abundance of functionally superior competitor products, this milkingware has been replaced with three better alternatives that together cost less than what these guys charge in a year. Uninstalled.
Chess puzzles GOAT! I simply love it. The free section is already very good (I tried it for a bit), but I almost immediately got a gold subscription because it's about a coffee/month and it's the least I could do (and, of course, gold features are quite interesting too!). Thank you guys!
I mainly use chesstempo for opening training and I love it, it really helped my chess and I have easily pushed 100-200 rating points since using it. Its great to build up an overall repertoire and also got short term preparation. Also, the admin is awesome, always answers to questions and feedback. Everyone I showed chesstempo to also really enjoys it. TL;DR best opening trainer you can get. It's the best way to get good at openings.
Very difficult ui to navigate. From what I understand, the ui is geared for those who come from the desktop site and are familiar with it. However, I would definitely recommend some button labels at a minimum.
The OG chess tactics website. For casual players, this app is really great for learning, especially on the blitz mode. Tried lichess puzzles for awhile, but chesstempo still wins for its system! And its quality puzzles that are pretty much the best online, almost forgot about that!
I LOVE this app but PLEASE make the bottom bar in the opening trainer stick to the bottom. Currently it is very hard to use because to navigate through moves you have to change where you tap as the panel directly above changes size. Thank you - 5 stars otherwise!
One Improvement strongly suggested. Display current rating of the SET (eg Standard/Blitz) at all times. I used to use TacticsTempo earlier when your official app was not available. I used to have a target rating as my short term goal. The current rating visible at the top used to motivate me at all times, that I couldn't afford to make a mistake as I would the lose hard earned rating that I am seeing on my screen. I miss that in this app. I still miss this option. You guys said you will consider
I don't know how but there's a problem when I have to train with my openings that I created. They just didn't automatically move as usually does. Also there's a problem importing openings from pgn. You should try to fix that if not I guess I rather to use another apps.
Simply the best. I've used chess tempo for many years now and support their efforts with a subscription. The community is robust, experienced and helpful. Shout-out to prariedoc who is highly rated and a prolific commenter who has explained all manner of tactics problems for thousands of users, allowing them to more easily see the value in learning from their mistakes by addressing all skill levels with the same respect. Aside from the community, the app itself is the perfect tool for learning.
The best Chess app and website for tactics. Well designs with plenty of useful features to improve every aspect of your play. I've been using this for years and it's simply perfect.
[EDIT: Problem resolved by reinstalling, so upgrading from 1 to 3 stars temporarily, hopfull to go back to 4 if problem doesn't recur.] After upgrading my rating from 2 to 4 I couldnt connect to server.
Even though the interface isn't really user-friendly, this is without any doubt one of the very best app for training chess (puzzles, openings...). I highly recommend it!
There are even 2 buttons for 'opening training', but I can't figure out how they work, because first I would have to 'create repertoire', but there is no such option available. Totally unintuitive, or maybe just plain stupid.
Excellent app. Good layout, enjoyable to use. And it estimulate the daily use, even for short periods of time, to conquer gradual improvement.
Too greedy, the free membership is completely useless and worthless, how is anyone supposed to improve by solving 2 endgame puzzles per day? If you didn't want to give anything at all just do that instead, it's not like everything you offer isn't available for free on lichess🙄 anyway.
I will gladly subscribe if the app gets smoother like Lichess.Piece animation lags and text sizes are very small even for 6" screen. The features are superb enough.
App is great for practise. I've discoverd a bug in the comment section happening on my phone and described it here. The developer contacted me right away, investigated my issue and will try to fix it. 5 stars for this free app and the best dev suppor I've encountered in the play store yet.
I love the experience I had with the website and I presume the app is no different. A few things need to be worked on however: 1) Rating designated to some of the puzzles as stated in the past 2) Computer analysis of puzzles (limit being 3 a day for users) which is generous to some degree but I feel is off-putting. 3) Submit button for a puzzle as countless time I've misclicked and it registered. All in all great app for tactics that I highly recommend :D
