Choice of Rebels: Uprising

Lead the revolt against a bloodthirsty empire! You grew up under the iron fist of the Hegemony. Now is your chance to end their blood-fueled magic, as you forge a ragtag outlaw band into a rebel army.

"Choice of Rebels: Uprising" is a 637,000 word interactive fantasy novel by Joel Havenstone, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

As an outlaw rebel in the greenwood wilderness, you must steal to survive your first brutal winter, or watch your people starve if you can't feed them. Win yeomen, helots, merchants, priests, and aristocrats over to the rebel cause...or turn them into your worst enemies. Will you defeat the army of the Hegemony’s Archon and the elite force of evil blood mages sent to destroy you, or will a personal betrayal put an end to your rebellion when it’s just barely begun?

• Play as male or female, gay, straight, or ace
• Fight as a renegade aristocrat or defiant slave
• Lead your outlaw band as a self-taught mage, a general, or a mystic priest
• Reform the empire’s religion or start your own
• Master the arcane magic of Theurgy and demolish the blood harvesters of the Hegemony
• Find romance amongst your fellow young rebels
• Root out spies, betrayers, and fend off a mutiny
• Survive attacks from assassins, mages, and the mutant Plektoi hounds

Will you gain a reputation as a compassionate idealist or ruthless insurgent? Can your rebels survive the winter and a vengeful army?

How much will you sacrifice to rebel, and save your homeland from an oppressive empire?

Amazing story and great writing. A lot of interesting choices, as well as the most surprising outcomes. Every choice we make affects something that happens later, hence extremely high replayability. Also I like how the side characters each have a believable personality, and I find myself actually wanting them to like me (or not) instead of treating them as tools for the game.

Let me start by saying this game is NOT for everyone. It's kind of a slog, especially chapter 2, but if you get past that you'll find an intriguing world with tons of potential for future installments. My main critique is that you can go pages without making any choices, but luckily the writing is good enough that I didn't just skip these sections. Get this if you want a good, dark fantasy story with an expertly-crafted world and are ready to watch everything fall apart.

One of the best interactive books I've read. It does a really good job of completely immersing you in the world around you. While your choices have heavy impact there's a still a good balance of events and happenings that are left out of your control. Making the world and characters feel real and bringing more gravity to your own decisions. I'm really looking forward to part two.

Incredible game, and one of the best books I've ever read. The writing is picturesque, the world well-developed with a unique concept, and the choices have such weight that I played through again thinking I'd duplicated my decisions up to a certain point but some tiny change must have rippled because different things happened. There are all kinds of achievements that would take many different paths to complete, so the replay value is great. It's a decent length too.

Very Good narrative! But isn't flawless. #1 It's better to just use layman terms. Too many points in the story where the grammar was far from being decipherable with just context clues. It felt like a homework assignment. At least I have better vocabulary I guess. #2 The ending plot has no resolution. We started a rebellion but it feels more like I've started a cult just to rob people in the name of god...I felt like there was no point of it all...even ended this part of the story running off.

One of the best choice-adventure games available. The choices you make affect the story in ways that feel impactful and the emotional connections you form with the characters are real. I was genuinely distraught when someone died or left. The game forces you to make hard choices that are either extremely satisfying when you succeed or depressing and make you regret everything when you fail. Cannot reccommend enough.

Great writing and plot, nice saving point system, replayability is excellent for totally different unfolding of the story. I was feeling touches of actual adrenaline before making some important choices at exciting moments. Only one downside, sometimes I accidentally press next and deeply wish I could undo it. Maybe there could be an option to have a one-off undo, maybe by collecting achievement points?

This is my favorite Choice of Games story to date. It has a well thought out world and background inhabited by interesting well written characters. This choice game also succeeds when it comes to the important feature of choice, unlike other choice based games Choice of Rebels has heavy consequences for almost every choice which can have drastic effects on how the story progresses. I can't speak highly enough of this game, so if you can afford the full version I would recomend getting it.

The game is hard to understand at the start. There are a lot of terms (which is explained in the glossary) that comes like a waterfall at the start of the game which clears away the fun as I need to go back several times at glossary to know it's meaning. The near ending part is good though.

The plot is meaningful and the characters are memorable. This has a resource management part in it that you can opt out of. I am very pleased with the writer for allowing you to opt out. Not everyone likes resource management games. The world is so unique that the first time you play you might not appreciate this game as much. You can be a wizard, a warrior, or a charismatic leader. Excellent replayability, the game changes dramatically based upon your choices. This story has a sequel too.

I loved it and I played it thousand times but I suggest to the writers that don't make it two games, it's annoying that you play half of it here and then Suddenly game is finished and it says you should wait for next app to continue! Edit: Hey what took you so long to continue this fantastic game. It's one of your best ones and you kind of abandoned it. Continue it! Hurry!

Best of the choice games in reference to management and choice repercussions. if you screw up you royally screw up and people die. But the story is very good snd it has decent characters. It is no Wayhaven as far as story goes. The world is fantastic and magic system fun. Can be very difficult.

I can see why it's popular and very liked. It's kind of long and also has a good story. Choices do actually affect everything. NPCs & Factions do react depending on what choices you've made. I like it and it's very enjoyable.

~freedom of choice~ is quite the prison. like so many other players choice games it gets so wrapped up in giving you options that you never feel like you're getting to the story. i made it to chapter 3 & i have no fkn clue where this story is going or even what the goal is. everything after the prologue is work. not kidding. hunting. trading. camping. crunching numbers. waiting for characters to come back so you can finally do something-WAIT nope just have to decide on barley or mules again

A first rate interactive fiction. In fact, one of the finest examples of what IF on mobile can be. Strong storytelling in a detailed & richly imagined setting populated with complex & convincing characters & all of it very competently written. Impactful choices substantially reshape the narrative giving a robust sense of agency as well as superb replay value. Will be replaying this a 3rd & likely 4th time, while eagerly anticipating the next installment.

I love these types of games. I've been addicted to then for a while now, but the only complaints i see on here are grammer related (which is constantly being worked on) and the fact that the rest of the book costs money(idk why this is a complaint) of course it's going to cost money. This is someones baby, the story they want to tell more than anything. Im more than happy to pay, its an amazing read and i look forward to the rest of the series.

This game is absolutely great, I'd without a doubt recommend it to anyone looking for an adventurous yet emotionally touching game. It's a great book and your choices chance the ending and gameplay drastically, making every playthrough amazing and unique.

It was well worth the money. The romantic experience feels great because it is interweaved into many different aspects of the story. It really feels like diving in into a new life. I hope its sequel gets released soon.

Jay. D. Nov 18, 2019

Very well-written, and offers a lot of choices while still keeping the plot coherent. Only issue is the wait for the sequel, as the ending sort of leaves you hanging. But taken on its own, this is a 5 star choice game

Truly an epic creation. The world design is stunning, there are multiple meaningfully different and interesting paths in the story, to where the two playthroughs I have had had very little in common as far as plot is concerned.

Absolutely incredible. Not since Choice of Robots have I found a CYOA game that greatly impacted me. Those considering this game should know that it's worth more than it is listed and should prepare themselves for a tense thrilling adventure where your choices matter, and evoke emotion. I eagerly await the sequel and cannot wait to read again.

Excellent story. Very in depth and characters are very well done. Probably one of the better choose your own adventures out there, definitely the best one I've read so far and I've read quite a few. Cant wait for Part 2, good job for a story well done!!!

It has a very good story that can get you hooked in seconds. It makes you feel for the characters so that you care for every choice you make. It could do better with telling you about the world and at some points I was confused because of this but this dosn't stop you from loving the game.

Mat. S. Aug 21, 2019

Not much choice involved. Some paths there's no reason for you to be a leader, and there's challenges that are just impossible or stupid. The entire script is tedious, and damn it's expensive for such a low quality game. Only redemption is the world is cool. 2 stars is generous.

Wow I was just looking for something fun to pass some time. Instead, I got hooked and could NOT put this story down. I was positively surprised by just how difficult the choices were. I often had to step away for a few minutes to really think how my options would play out.
