Chomper Chums®

United Concordia Dental is proud to present Chomper Chums®, a dental hygiene focused mobile app. The app is designed to enable parents to help their child to learn proper brushing techniques and to establish long lasting and healthy oral wellness habits. The target audience includes children between the ages of 4 and 11 years of age.
The purpose of the app is to help children to develop good oral wellness habits at an early age that will last a lifetime. These include brushing for the recommended time period of two minutes, twice per day, as well as flossing and rinsing. To engage children while they brush and learn, the app introduces three fun, friendly and lovable animal characters that are named by the child, and with whom they interact each time they brush. Characters include a lion, horse and alligator – all of whom help the child to learn how to brush properly.

Using colorful animation, the app also helps children to make sure that they reach all quadrants of their mouths when brushing by showing the inside of their animal character’s mouth while they brush. The child can chase “sugar bugs” around each quadrant, for 30 seconds per quadrant. When the child brushes correctly twice per day and for the recommended 2 minute time period, they earn coins that are used to purchase food items to help to care for their animal.

In caring for their animal, the child is encouraged to select healthy food items, but can also select less healthy choices to feed their animal, such as snacks rather than vegetables. However, the health of their animal character is influenced by their choices, teaching them about the importance of making their own healthy eating choices. Also, children who continue to brush regularly for extended days can earn the “Super Smile Award” which allows them to send their animal character on a new adventure!

My 7 year old and I enjoy using this app. She loves feeding her animal after she brushes. We wish there were more animals to choose from and the option to pick our own song to play while brushing. Our biggest criticism is that the healthy food costs more money than the junk food. I want to encourage her to eat healthy, but she can't buy as much healthy food and resorts to buying unhealthy snacks for her animal.

I have three children using the app and it has help motivate them to brush their teeth - the little one in particular. He built up points every day and announced he'd get to 1000. But after months of working towards this, it clicked over from 999 back to 100. What an anticlimax.

Best brushing app for kids We are Sparkly app cutters due to so many issues; so I found this app and it's a huge hit. My 10 and 7yo love to use the app. I love that they included flossing and rinsing as we didn't push flossing before. I am even going to get a character for myself as my brushing routine is horrible to. I agree with other commenters about the healthy food being more expensive(they are kids, just keep it simple; we know in real life more healthy means more expensive).

My kid (2.5 years) loves this app. It's kept him asking to brush his teeth for the last two weeks. And it's simple enough that he can mostly navigate it on his own. His little sister also likes dancing to the music while she brushes her teeth

The animation skips the center tooth gap when flossing. Therefore, we can not rate this five star. Some child, somewhere, might skip their center front teeth and get cavities. Thank you. Sincerely, Hannah, age 7 and Hailey, age 5. P.S. We love Chomper Chums though and will raise it to 5 star if you fix this little, but important mistake.

My 3 year old prefers 'brush with bud'. I would like to see this one be more like brush with bud and to get to brush with a different 'chum' of choice.

The app pinches heart level, straight after applying more heart level. No coins after finally maxing out the heart level. We just felt robbed.

Really good concept. Our 5yo enjoys it and wants to brush for the rewards. Same problem mentioned by others - worked well, lost a little ground on health if he skipped brushing, which was great, recovery was manageable but not easy - he capped out the heart bar once! Yay! Now it won't hold points properly. Ugh. He gets coins correctly and buys healthy food. Now the bar sometimes goes up, but also goes empty for no reason and doesn't hold new health points. He is definitely remembering and getting discouraged, even when doing a good job brushing. Poor testing - please fix it! We have two users (his croc competes with my lion), so maybe they interfere with each other.

This is by far the best app out there for toothbrush timers. It engages the children as they learn the proper techniques to brush, floss and use both wash. The only problem is the animals loose their hearts after a while and it's hard to gain then back. Of that were fixed this would be a five star app for sure

It is an amazing app for all ages. All of my children love it. the last app I had would not let my children act with it I have two children I love how I can have two characters and they're not always not wanting to brush their teeth now they're always asking me if they can brush their teeth the only thing we're not liking is the part where the heart take so long to back up I love it I can have different characters and they don't have to sit at the same the same person . I just love this app

And so does Dad (me). Love the way it shows the kids where and how long to brush the areas. Happy to see floss and rinse as well. I have 2 daughters ages 5 and 10 who love following along with the animals brushing. It does however glitch some times but I am still happy with it. Wish my girls could redeem coins here in Alberta Canada.

I've been using this app for quite a while now, it's about time to say thank you! Great app, no ads, the best I've seen on the market. Just wish I could go to the zoo now I won tickets! Thank you and I recommend it to every parent with kids with brand new teeth. Even my dentist tells about it now.

Worked great for 22 days now, until this morning when my son's character and no progress in the heart, when all day yesterday it was fairly close to half full. Tried to restart everything same thing. I don't want to uninstall and reinstall and lose everything else. Please help!

Can't give 5 stars as crashes sometimes and the coin system is a bit naff, but in terms of brushing it's great as it gets the child to brush each quadrant. Other apps are lame, particularly the Disney one.

Good app, kids like it. Dont think it should have the rinse timer, since you're not supposed to rinse your teeth after. My kids insist on doing it because the function is there
