I've used this app for years. Recently I've somehow lost access to the map access I've previously had access to. In the past whenever the app acted up I was able to communicate with support and get a response. I've tried that this time, reaching out to the email point several times, but there's been no reply. I'm very disappointed, but I shouldn't be surprised after their user data leak from January of 2020. This app has gone downhill.
This app is the best thing ever! If you are a budget traveler like myself and want to have a detailed map that shows where you are at all times, without paying for a pricey foreign data plan, this app is the way to go! I have been using it for more than 4 years now, in 9 different countries. And it works out awsome everywhere I go. I did start to have trouble with it not loading the map while offline, but I just reinstalled the app like Ulmon suggested, and it works great again!!
I previously really liked this app for the off-line maps. Now it doesn't work if I'm off-line, which makes it completely useless to me. I downloaded maps before going hiking because the maps had the trails but, when I tried to use it on the trail, it wouldn't load the map because I didn't have data access in spite of the fact that I supposedly had the map stored on my phone and it takes up a substantial amount of storage space. I don't see the point if I can't get the "maps-to-go".
Absolutely horrible. Hangs when trying to open.I planned a 1-month trip to Europe and set up many hotels and when I got there it didn't open at all just hung up the phone. Support responded to uninstall/reinstall, but I lose info previously added. The problem may be related to installing a local sim. Be careful to back up before. I bumped up one star, but the app should not do this. 2nd edit: Sebastian in support has been very helpful in trying to help me recover my lost data. I will add another
It's ok but it would be more useful if it could guide you how to get from place to place . Update 21/06/19. My review is still relivent . Your app would improve with the addition of navigation . Try using your app in Venice where you can't move around without Google maps unless you want to get lost in 15 minutes . Swapping between apps when you are on the move is a pain.
I used this app for years while traveling and really loved being able to visualize the places I'd been to/starred on one map and, unfortunately, it was the only place I kept info about many places I'd been for future reference. They recently did "updates" to the app and erased my entire map/starred list, without warning, and there's no way to recover any of it. I have a hard time recommending anything that doesn't value/protect its users' personal information 😕
I like the options of what this app offers. Unfortunately the BIG downside is the memory drain it causes. for some reason once opened it constantly works in the background, increasing the heat of my phone and draining the battery. closing the app doesn't prevent this from happening. I have to go into the system and force stop to prevent it. really a shame because this could be a great app that I would use more often if it didn't kill my battery....
I tested this app during travel in Chicago for the first time. Very helpful. Then I took it to Prague and downloaded maps for all of our trips outside the City to use without a data plan. Amazing. I created lists around entire neighborhoods I wanted to visit. It helped in conjunction with transit maps for tram and subway stops. Getting ready to download a map for San Diego. The only app I have paid for besides a VPN.
Edit: The update fixed the issue but it lost my pro account and will no longer let me download multiple maps. Also, the support email gives me a delivery failure response when I try to discuss the issue. Overall, I think the app is great, but I recently had an error regarding data migration and the app is now completely unusable. I have tried to contact the developer, but no one has helped me fix the issue.
Very useful! Used it in Tokyo, Berlin, Rome, Florence, Venice and will use it shortly in Paris. Love the offline feature, it's super simple to plan and navigate. Well worth the money. Indespensible in Paris, especially during 2019/20 metro strikes. Very responsive and helpful customer service. Helped me with setting up App when I changed from ios to android without having to pay again. Highly recommended!
Love this app! I have used it successfully for many trips to Europe, when navigating around a city on foot, all using wifi only - no data required. Helps to pinpoint where I am, what streets will help me get to my next destination, and allows me to drop pins for hotels, restaurants, etc. I find it invaluable when traveling. I don't leave home without my maps already downloaded, and important sights pinned.
Excellent for offline use and finding locals points of interests. The downside is lack of currency. In my local area alone, it's missing more than half of the restaurants, shops, and gas stations that have opened in the last 1 - 3 years. Contrast to Google Maps and nothing is missing including a recently opened restaurant.
Has been invaluable for my trip to New York and Washington DC. I like creating lists for each day with different colours to see exactly how much of the city was explored on each day. I think locking half of the colours behind a paywall is a bit much though. But other than that, highly recommended!
Use this app a lot. I find it very good for "off road" applications - hiking trails, etc. My only quibble would be I would like to see greater contrast between roads and the surrounding land. Roads are white against a pale green background, not ideal. Couldn't roads be shown black?
Love the offline map, works better than others I've tried and has great suggestions for places to go! Edit: years later and still loving the app, doesn't always update fast enough while driving, but works really well otherwise!!
Im new to this appp, as a recommendation from a traveler. So far, the info on places is nice as well as being able to save them in a list. But, the app keeps downloading maps. They get listed on my phone notifications and will not clear unless I delete thm in the app. i dont like the constant downloading. it should just be live access unless I request otherwise. Im planning to Portugal trip soon. i will test its worth then.
I have used this app for years and absolutely love it! The off line maps are perfect for my travels around Europe. They are always accurate, easy to follow, and full of great detail. I especially like that even offline it will follow my exact position within the map! A+
Good map design and offline feature has saved me multiple times when I've gotten lost in a foreign country I think there's a good opportunity to improve search and recommendations for new places. Overall great!
I love this app and I have upgraded to premium version. However, after it was accidentally deleted from my phone, I couldn't restore my premium version. I was required to pay again. That was disappointing. Edit: Miraculously after this comment, the next time I go into the app, it says "premium version restored".
I have just returned from a holiday in southern Africa. I used Ulmon Pro and Google Offline maps. Ulmon Pro was much better outside the main cities. Google only had main roads in many areas. Ulmon had streets in every town and even many minor roads in the game reserves we visited. I didn't drive but it was good to follow the tour on a good detailed map.
I've been using this app for nearly 10 years now - I first downloaded it to an iPod touch in 2010. Since then I've installed it on an iPhone, an iPad, and a Lenovo android tablet. It works beautifully! I've used it all over the world - Europe, USA, Russia, Japan, China, Korea, Indonesia and Iran... Each time I travel I download the appropriate maps before I leave so that I don't need internet to find my way about. One of my favourite features is that you can set pins to mark places on the map.
