New Version Extremely Slow... was forced to upgrade to the latest version. When app is first opened it takes almost two minutes to load and individual articles are also slow to load. Prior version was fast and had a better look.
CNET isn't even tech News anymore. Sends me push notifications way too often for articles that are less interesting to read than chain mail I get from my great aunt. Sad to see what's happened to journalistic standards. The odd useful notification won't even load the article, and the app is impossible to find recent articles with even if I did want to go looking for the article
Just has articles and not rating lists. Waste of space, data, & time.
Amazing articles with amazing UI and smooth experience.
Basically - app is meh but should be great. It is very difficult to find any cnet shows like apple core or Top 5. At the bottom you have two choices - news and products. They need a 3rd choices for shows.... The Roku app is better for this reason. Overall, the quality of content and delivery is fantastic if you can find what you are looking for.
I love CNET, and I like the app. However, there is a problem with the video player where the sound sometimes goes in and out and in and out (like you are hitting mute over and over again). I haven't pinpointed exactly when it happens versus when it works as intended, but it also starts a video up again even when you have paused the video. It happens so much that I RARELY watch the videos and just read the reviews/articles.
When asked for my interests, Apple was not a choice I made (nor anything to do with stimulus checks/politics, I get that elsewhere, thank you). When my results popped up, it was stimulus checks and Apple. Also, I would do the videos, because I just like to read, and it would mysteriously start up again half way through the article. I'll stick with their website, though even there I'm forced to turn off videos. Too bad, I used to enjoy CNET so much more.
Notifications doesn't work properly. I have never been able to go directly to the article that pops up on the notification. I am forced to search for the article and end up reading other things and wasting way more time. The main reason why it feels frustrating is that it operates like Bait and switch. The other issue that I have faced with the app is the app's audio crept into Android Auto while I was driving. The app has great content, shame that the app is glitchy.
This app..has shown slot of to date and relative news. Very informative and from what I can gather is quite accurate in what's saying. It is like be the first to know obviously it depends on when you open it or what notifications you've set. But I can't fault it.. How I've not tried to read it off line and if it isn't available offline maybe it should be for the pages you've already open read, and would like to maybe read again.
Downloaded it to my Galaxy S7 Edge after reading of another user's difficulty. Works fine. Opened app repeatedly just to see. No problems. Articles came up fast. Switching categories is smooth. I've relied on CNET heavily over the years. I trust them. I'm glad to have them in my pocket now. Try it. And to the user with the phone like mine, make sure its updated then uninstall/reinstall. Maybe that'll work. I hope so.
New fonts hard to read. Uninstalling. Why fix what wasnt broke?
There are at least two problems with the CNet app: auto play videos is on by default and you cannot open images and resize them, so if the image is of something small you have to go to the website to view it better. Admittedly, maybe small criticisms, but they are quite annoying, at least to me.
I thought this was going to be a copy of the website with search and different areas to go to. Instead it's just a bunch of videos. Disappointed with that but it does have some redeeming qualities. Video okay - just no navigation to what my interests are at the time. I use the cnet website as a reference tool and would like to be able to use the app the same way.
Really enjoy CNET in the App and the Desktop. Keep up the good reporting. Informative and useful most of the time.
I hope the UK edition is brought back in future updates! I'm not sure why it was removed when it was perfectly fine and also all my saved bookmarks for the UK edition, I can no longer view! The US edition is no use to me, as the deals and majority of news and products are irrelevant due to different currencies and region! I liked the app when there was an option to choose regions in the app! Not by default (US edition).
Unidirectional communication from them to the world. Unable to ask a question about technology; not on their website, not in the app. I'll do it here. 5G news seems to try to draw everyone to their plethora of possibilities, but there is ONE that interests me now: How will it improve the calling experience? Being the telephone an invention older than TV, the quality of calls still leaves a lot to be desired (strength of signal, clarity of the voice, etc.). Only one that was mentioned: latency.
do not install this app. If you want to read cnet, use the mobile site and create a shortcut. Lately they started autoplaying of videos but since I usually have the sound turn off, there is a big unmute button that must the click before you can stop the autoplaying. this is embarrassing when the sound from the video starts blasting from the phone in public. in addition since I cannot immediately stop the autoplaying, it is eating the data on the phone.
Can't open the notifications
This App Has and apparently will always be trash, they send you a notification for a story, then when you click on the notification to read the story, it takes a light year to load or fails to load. This had been going on for years and it seems like the developer had given up on it.
Nice new look, love the font.
Lacks landscape orientation.. I like to read in landscape but only portrait is currently supported. Dark theme is nice, but should have a hex black option as well to support all these AMOLED panels. Otherwise the content is relevant and what I'm looking for. The overall experience is satisfactory. Just needs that extra nudge.
very limited search. Cnet had done tens of thousands of reviews on various products but the search on the app only shows you what they list as their best. limited or no results when searching for things not in their top 10. other product reviews are unreachable with this app. you should be able to and search for everything listed on the main web page not just the top few suggestions. this app is a fail. Uninstall
App opened fine when I first installed it a few weeks ago. A few days after that it would not open. So uninstalled reinstalled still no good. Now reinstalled the latest version app takes almost a minute to open then after another minute closes on its own. Just open up the site in your web browser and you won't have any issues. Update: Installed version 4.5.8 still takes almost a minute to open app and stories then closes on it's own after a minute however reopen from recents the app stays open.
I love CNET. Have been using them ever since I can remember. This app though has some glitches with video and audio. Trying to play videos back to back, the sound will drop off and only a soft reboot will let the codec kick back in. What's going on? Hope you all can get this fixed so I can update to a 5 star rating.
The app is okay, but a lot of time it crashes and it takes forever to load the page you want to view for no good reason, but the most annoying thing is that when you close the app and reopen it and try to open the page you wanted to view, that page will disappear! PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM
The app is aggressive with notifications, but has no granularity to the controls beyond on and off. This also means you can't choose which topics to be notified about. I've had enough of new car test-drives, thanks. i guess CNet is no longer about the computer industry...
App reset don't use background data setting during an update, then used over 5GB of data last night while my phone was not in use, leaving me with a huge overage bill! Before that would rate the app 4 stars, but now I can only advise to avoid. *To address the developer question: I was not looking at anything, I was not using the phone. The day before I had scrolled through a few days on the latest news feed, and opened a 15-20 articles. An email has been sent showing my data use.
It used to be a great source for tech news. Now, most of the headlines are about the stimulus! Why?!? Update: Thanks for the advice. I checked my preferences in the "interests" section of the app. The selection well represents my interests and there is nothing that should explain all of the news articles about the stimulus that dominates my feed :(
CNET is an ok app for news & technology. Still waiting for the app to kind of separate itself. It's been awhile since I've seen a great tech app but I believe CNET can be that. Would love to see more topics. The topics has always been the same, they've never changed. Continue to update & improve..
