Like the other recent reviews, I'm having the same problem where CNN Go just crashes right after it displays it's CNN splash screen and goes back to the Android TV launcher. It worked fine for me up until around mid November. Now it's been broken for weeks. I've force stopped, cleared cache/data, uninstalled and reinstalled it. Even factory reset my Chromecast with Google TV (which isn't looking like a great purchase now). In the meantime I'm using to Cast CNN from my phone, but that has it's own issues too. Might need to bring my Roku back out.
I like the content, but the app constantly crashes, this is one of the most unstable apps that I've ever tried to use! Extremely frustrating when you just want to hop on for 20 min and catch up with the news. Also, WHY ARE THE COMMERCIALS SO ABSURDLY LOUD??!! Whoever is managing the digital experience at CNN should be fired and replaced by someone who actually knows what they are doing.
Brand new TCL smart TV running Android. The App plays the live feed for approximately 5 seconds and then the video feezes but the audio continues just fine. Connectivity to the TV is fine for everything else so I don't suspect a network issue. CNN Go on other devices in the house work just fine. Now having an issue with CNN Go on the new Google TV/Chromecast. Opens...shows gathering news and then closes as MANY other have reported.
Having the same problems as everyone else. App crashes immediately when it gets to the loading page on my Chromecast with Google TV devices on my 3 TV's. Extremely annoying. Hopefully they will have support for the new CNN+ service soon which will make this un-useful app....... useful.
C'mon CNN. It's better not to have any app than have app that doesn't launch for months. This does not work on Chromecast with Google TV. Hasn't ever, apparently. It starts launching and then crashes. This is trivial to reproduce, so the fact that it's not fixed is that it has been abandoned by CNN.
UPDATE July 1, 2021. Still crashes on Chromecast with Google TV. Garbage app. Crashes upon opening on the Chromecast with Google TV. Been this way since Fall of 2020. CNN seems to NGAS about fixing it. Lazy developers who submit shoddy apps like this should be kicked off the Android platform. In the meantime I'll be watching more CBSN which works flawlessly.
This app is still not working on Android TV (nvidia shield) and has not been updated for over a year. It crashes after the CNN logo comes on. I just signed up for CNN+, was hoping to watch on the big screen.
My experience is same as Matt D and David Alter. "Fails to launch every time on the newest Google TV Chromecast device. It was working fine up until today. Tried everything, re-installed, restart, and reboot of my modem/router. No error message, just shows the CNN logo and "loading" then BOOM, disappears and screen shows home Chromecast page. BAD app."
Had this app on my Android TV box and it was wonderful, until the box updated to Android 10. Nothing I have done will let this app run on AndroidTV V 10. It does still run on the TV itself using Android 9. Needs to be fixed. The actual app itself is great when it runs. Allows viewing CNN International in HD, where most services that carry it only have it in SD. So, Ill give it 5 stars for AndroidTV 9, and 1 star for AndroidTV 10.
Would give it a Zero if I could. Does anybody with CNN read these reviews?!?!? My experience is the same as the others: The app crashes every time I try to open it on Chromecast Google TV. It's the only streaming app I have that does this. IT FAILS TO LOAD EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Can't get it to work on one of my Nvidia shields. It plays on my shield tv in my living room, and my roku in one of my other rooms(And no not all playing at the same instance, just in case somebody states that the reason my app will not play),but will not play in my master bedroom. I've tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling the app ,clearing my cache but keep getting message upon starting the app stating"No network connection detected. Please check you connection and try again".Strange the shield tv in the living room and roku are connected through my routers wifi, and the app plays on those two.My master bedroom connection is hardwired thu my ethernet cable, and I keep getting the "no network detected message"Very Strange.
Keeps crashing on my Chromecast with Google TV. It will open initially but then crashes before I can get a chance to sign in with my cable provider to watch any content. And then to see all of the reviews stating this has been a long-term issue. Very disappointed.
App doesn't work. Keep closing down / crashing when opening on Google chromecast TV. Unacceptable for a company like CNN and or Google. Lots of comlplaints for a very long time from a lot of users and no fix or communication from the company
Works fairly well for viewing live programming on the go. There's issues which bring the experience down, though: 1) Commercials are *absurdly* loud vs the programming. Come on. 2) The stream while on Chromecast frequently stops. Please improve stability. 3) The voice command to play on Chromecast only plays old clips. Add an option for defaulting straight to the live stream. 3) Add an option to restrict video streaming to wi-fi only. 5) Give an option to pay for live streaming for the folks who are OTA or want to be.
Whenever I try to open this app, it tells me it's "gathering the news" then it exits. Every time. I have a Sony XR55A80J TV with the latest version of Google TV. No excuse for this.
As the other 1-star reviews say, this app doesn’t work and the devs seem disinclined to fix it. Perhaps once the new Chromecast becomes more popular and more people demand it be fixed, we’ll get a working app, but I can’t for the life of me understand why CNN would release an app that it so completely broken, and then not do anything about it.
Fails to launch every time on the newest Google TV Chromecast device. It was working fine up until today. Tried everything, re-installed, restart, and reboot of my modem/router. No error message, just shows the CNN logo and "loading" then BOOM, disappears and screen shows home Chromecast page. BAD app.
The app does not work in the Chromecast with Google TV. It has been almost a month and a half since the app tries to load and then crashes. Guessing Google Play users are not relevant to the CNN app developers.
I would review the CNN Go app but it does not work on Chromcast With Google TV. It installs with no errors reported, starts up, and then dies with no explanation, It never asks for any credentials, TV Provider, etc.
If i can give this 0 stars I would. Worst app ever. Worked once and then never after. On fire tv and google tv the app launches goes into getting todays news and crashes. Fresh install, reinstall, brand new devices, same issues.
Does not work on Chromecast. Launches then crashes. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, but reviews suggest this has been an issue for quite a while.
This app does not work at all and CNN does not care! They will not respond to any emails or other inquiries about it. Guess ALL of the people who own Android TV boxes (including the new Chromecast with Google TV) can get our news from sources that care about us!
Doesn't seem to be working with the newest Chromecast w/ Google TV... Opens up and crashes. Used this app fine for Roku - perhaps it will be fixed, but as of 2/16/2021 - Still broken.
Even after doing a factory reset on my android tv, the CNN app still crashes. Can't find a viable solution on any of the forums online.
Installed it and uninstalled it several times on a Google TV... it installs but then won't open. The Google version of this app simply doesn't work.
App will not launch on Chromecast with Google TV. Begins to open, splash screen loads, then it returns to the home screen.
Non-functional on Chromecast with Google TV. The splash screen loads, then the app crashes to the main menu. I've turned on/off energy optimization and went ahead and given it permissions from within the app's properties. Nothing helps. It's a shame because the actual app is nice to have. It just literally does not work right now. I've sent an email to the contact listed on this page. Possible that the devs just aren't aware. I'd recommend all others coming here to report do the same.
