Codeword Unlimited
For those unfamiliar with Codeword puzzles, they provide a grid of words, similar to a normal crossword, but with no clues, rather a few initially provided letters, and a number in each square in the gird to indicate its (as yet unknown) letter. All boxes with the same number must use the same letter. From that information and the few initially provided letters it is possible to work out which words will fit in the boxes. Hence you are decoding (or decyphering) the numbers into letters to reveal the hidden words. Usually all 26 letters of the alphabet are used in the codeword, although not always (and unused letters appear crossed out in the keyboard).
Feature list:1) Unlimited number of codewords!! They are created on-the-fly using the application's advanced generator engine and it's built-in word list.2) The player decides the number of rows and columns (from 3 to 20). This allows the game to be suitable for all kinds of mobile-phones and tablets.3) Difficultly level can be specified by the user, which determines the pool of words the generator will use. The larger the pool the greater the difficulty. There is even an early learner mode with a limited number of words, aimed at children and English language learners. The number of starting letters can also be specified. Higher scores can be obtained with more difficult codewords.4) Selecting a square in the grid will highlight all places the same letter is used in that grid (i.e. has the same number to decipher). This is really handy and of course not possible when doing codewords in a magazine.5) If a game is too difficult, the application provides two useful tools to help you (see below).6) For any word in the grid for which all squares are assigned to letters, Codeword Unlimited will highlight if that word is NOT an allowed word in the word list it uses to generate its codewords. This helps you when you have mistakes in your current assignments (saving you lots of time and frustration!).7) An on-screen keyboard means it is much easier and more comfortable to play.8) The definition of a completed word can be viewed. This is useful if you do not know it, or you are learning a foreign language (internet connection required).9) Choose the language of the word list, from a large range of downloadable dictionaries. 26 languages are currently available (see below).10) Can be played in portrait or landscape mode. Just rotate your device and the display adjusts automatically.11) Game contains achievements integrated into Google Play's "Game Services".
Other similar applications want you to pay for more Codewords, but this game provides you with endless puzzles, all for free!!
Each game is assigned a difficulty level from 0 (easy) to 9 (very hard). The difficulty level is determined by the settings. Each difficulty level maintains the high scores (measured by fastest time to complete the game). The game displays the best 20 scores for each difficulty level.Compare your high scores with others around the world by using Google Play's "Game Services".
If the player is in difficulty, the application provides two very useful aids. (1) The game can provide another decoded letter. (2) The game can show you potential answers for an uncompleted word. The game uses the letters that you have already decoded and displays the matching words.
Dictionaries available are English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Polish, Norwegian, Romanian, Serbian(Latin), Serbian(Cyrillic), Slovak, Slovene, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian and more coming later

Lots of challenges and levels to keep me entertained. Update 10.22.2020: changing to one star. The ads with sound that cannot be turned off now are annoying and intrusive. I will be uninstalling! (Too bad. This used to be my favorite game, but I can't have sound coming on to disturb others in my family, so buh-bye!)
Used this app for almost a year now and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the app has been updated with no warning , the screen has changed and looks terrible, the keyboard input is too big and clumsy and all of my history has gone so I have to start over again. Have deleted it now and will look for another game to play.
Not the most polished app, and kind of sluggish, but I like that it has unlimited free puzzles. I do wish we could pay to remove the ads, because they are distracting and give me a headache. Overall, it's my favorite of the 10 codewords apps I've tried this week, and probably the only one I'll keep playing.
Why did you break this game? I've played for years and my previous rating was 5 stars. New keyboard takes up too much of the screen, which caused the letters to be in the wrong places. When playing for speed it's annoying to have to look for the right letters. And the game reset to level 3! I can't see where to change the level. The "settings" should allow us to go back to how it was before.
I'm sorry. I really love this game. Most of all I loved that when I wanted to quit it was like no other app. Two clicks and I was out. But you ruined everything by putting this obnoxious and that uses all the tricks available to keep you in the ad for so long and even when you think it's over the little arrows top left do nothing. Again, I'm sorry but that is enough for me to delete the app.
I've enjoyed playing this game for years back when it was in puzzle books and love playing it now on my tablet. I can challenge myself by adjusting the settings. Great game.
Hate the super large letters after the update. I preferred them smaller it find it hard to concentrate on the puzzle with the letters dominating the screen. Wish I could go back but clicking the use old interface button doesn't swap me back to the old style.
Seriously addictive. Absolutely love it. The only quibble is sometimes the ads run for far too long and occasionally it's necessary to exit the ap as the and ends with no way of getting back into the game.
Have always loved this game on paper, but it takes on a whole new life on a device. Seeing all the same letters without the arduous task of physically looking for them is a huge bonus for me, and helps the game flow. I'm so addicted to this app.....have to do 5 or 10 games a day.....and more!
It is for people who love word games. Great for brain workout. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction when I complete a puzzle. Wonderful and useful way to kill time. Kudos and many thanks to the developler.
Very good and challenging app. However, some adverts for other games takes a rather long time and don't have a closing x button!
It's great and not constantly harassed with pop-up adverts, as seen frequently in other apps. If, like me, you have a codeword addiction it's good to have on your phone.
Very good, uses all the letters of the alphabet, lots of levels of difficulty. Quick to start. Ads are fairly unobtrusive. Good for my brain
Love this, have had this particular version for years on each one of my devices. Keeps the brain active and I'm always learning new words and their meanings.
Absolute pleasure to use and as challenging as you want by choosing different levels. As it says on the box the content is unlimited and what's more it's free. What's not to like.
Actually loved it except for the ads some of which were really obnoxious ,taking you to the play store and making it very difficult for you to leave or taking you back and forth to an advertisrment.
I used to really like this but the new layout with the large numbers is awful and makes it harder to find unused squares. If it isn't broke don't fix it. It's broke now, please take away the large letters
Great game, well thought out, no real ads to interfere with it. Settings as tough or easy as you like. Been playing it for a year.
Love this app. When you select a letter is fills them all in for you! The adds aren't too annoying for the free version. Would definitely recommend
I really love playing codeword! I used to play this game from magazines as a kid and I'm so psyched I found an app that gives me unlimited games!
Pretty poor. Looks very old fashioned and is in need of a redesign of the UI. Clunky.
Ads are to long between games (30 secs) and sometimes multiple. Fix that and it gets 5 stars.
This is a very good game, it's different from the all flashing, dancing and singing ones you get so fed up with, this is challenging and in my opinion deserves it's five stars.
Best Code Word app. I'm keeping this one. Ads are subtle and can be used ofline - so no ads. Just comes up with obscure words and repeats words because every puzzle uses all 26 letters.
OMG! Only just found this.Have been using apps with a 'very'limited number of games simply because they were all under 10mb.There was even 1 that did'nt let u go past the 1st 1!(u all know which 1 I mean).If this truly has unlimited games,I never have 2 look for a replacement ever again.
This is a really nice game to play when travelling. I used to play these game in the newspaper for so many year and there used to be one game only. And now i can do as many as i like from easy to very difficult. Love it.
An absolute delight! Totally addictive and a good workout for the brain. I do several of them each day.
I enjoy relaxing with this puzzle. It keeps my mind active. It also brings pleasure to my grandaughter. There is an add however after every game. I don't mind adds, however thats too many.
I'm on level 3 beginner. I was given one letter in one space. Obviously im not moving past this level without time penalties! Fortunately the time thing is of no concern to me. It does make me wonder, however, how tough later levels are. There are few ads, the settings layout could have a better aesthetic design, but it diesnt matter. The app is good.
