Coin is awesome, I highly recommend to the techy, gadgety, friend or family member. However, EMV chip support needs come as more and more merchant move that way. (Ie I have a bank debit card that I purposely have not updated to EMV so I can use it with my coin) all in all it's a great idea

My experience with this thing has been abysmal. First I preordered over a year ago before it was released and then was completely forgotten about. Never received a product or an email. So I bought it again when 2.0 came out and it worked for a month then when I upgraded my phone the app quit working so I couldn't sync cards anymore. Now that they've bothered to finally update the app I tried again and now the app won't recognize the card reader.

Who's to say one day you get an email or worse find out from a tech blog, they have filed for bankruptcy. 2 years still giving the same generic responses and making plenty of money off your backer funding. Plus there is much better competition out there like Plastc card. It does everything Coin said wasn't possible. Coin is shady, took in a lot of money and kept giving poor excuses and same generic responses. Delays upon delays and lies about availability. I see get your money back while you can.

Web DNS isn't working so I can't go to the support page. App doesn't allow me to sign in (unable to connect to the internet) or reset PW (unknown error). Can't do anything else with it. Guess I'll trash the card and delete the app. Moved on to a different phone and can't get anything working. As others have said, if your actual card has a chip, you can't use Coin. It doesn't work about 40% of the places I've tried it.

UPDATED: I now realize that the failing card was an American Express. It simply isn't excepted by all vendors. Overall I'm experiencing around the same 70% success rate as the initial few weeks. I feel more comfortable using it now due to the trend of kids taking photographs of your credit cards and committing fraud. Only the last 4 are visible to them. I wish that it was 99% success 11/16/16: My coin 2.0 is still rocking after years of use. Sad that there won't be an improved model.

A cool piece of tech that has lots of room for improvement. How hard is it to allow alias names for cards? Forced to remember which 4 digit number is for what card. After a few cocktails it's too easy to use the wrong card - lol. Keep at it Coin developers - you'll get there eventually. UPDATE: Coin 2.0 allows short aliases. Unfortunately Coin is no longer available for sale for some reason!

We can agree, Wal-Mart's a major retailer. Most cards have upgraded with chips. Coin can't be used. Yes, some retailers haven't implemented chip readers. I shop at Wal-Mart almost everyday and can never use my Coin. I put it away for that reason. Before banks required chips, Coin was my only used card which was perfect for my wallet. My Coin is rendered useless (which made for a bad investment) for all retailers if the merchant that require EMV dip. Besides "contactless" option, is there an upgrade coming?

For the most part, Coin is convenient. Except for instances when I select a card that has a chip. Unable to insert Coin in chip readers is inconvenient & embarrassing. Hence, have to use the actual chip card instead of Coin. This defeats the purpose of using Coin instead of individual debit/credit cards. Upgrade needed...

The idea is sound, the performance of the card, rather exceptional. Several cards that can be loaded on a single "card", what is not to like. I will say there is that occasional purveyor who's machine can't handle the transaction, but that is about 2-4% of my transactions to date; so the convenience far out ways the concern. I will say I am curious as how this will work once all chip readers are working as the NFC did not work, when attempted as a bypass! but it may have been user error (hmm)... maybe.

I was super excited when I first heard about it, then it took ages to get to me, super excited to open the package, card swiper doesn't work, if you can't swipe verify you can't use coin. New coin 2.0 comes out! Super excited! Still can't swipe verify. Maybe it's my headphone jack? Get a new phone! Try again! Still won't swipe verify. Must've ordered this thing three years ago, still haven't been able to use it. Over it. Maybe I'll try again when I get a fresh credit card...

Now if I could use it everywhere. New Fred Meyer gas didn't work today but it worked at Peets this morning.

I use the app often to read my credit cards for phone purchases. Haven't used the coin card itself in over a year

God awful reliability when you try to use it. Locks up by itself when sitting next to the phone. Card doesn't go thru and comes up declined but when I use the original card it goes thru. Very poor reliability and terrible experience. Waste of money. Wouldn't recommend.

First i couldn't add any of my cards. Finally added a card when i bought a new phone... guess what!? Card with a chip? Doesn't work at any place that requires you to insert the card with a chip. . . But thats not the worst part. I bought a $3 redbull at a gas station as a test... charged me a $1.21 fee! Why would anyone use a card that charges you fees like this. I supported you coin. I gave you $100 for the card and this is how you treat me!? Time to play coin meets scissors.

Works (physical coin) 60% of the time. App is good, the reader works best if you squeeze it a bit. Functions are not intuitive. I had hoped the coin would work more after time, but it is too unreliable.

WHERE ARE THE DEVELOPERS?? This app needs serious fixing. I love it when it works, but at this point it's completely unfunctional. Forgot my pass, unable to reset it (unknown error). When app was working, wouldn't add any new cards because it said "network error not connected to internet" even though I was (tried 2 different WiFi +4G). Also, didn't like my zip code for one card so it blocked the card and I can no longer add it. PLEASE please fix this app!! I miss it :(

Would be 5 stars but the not working on all readers .have not been able to try to see if nfc works due to lack of cards compatible.

Haven't had any issues yet and it's a neat way to pay. Only carry one card now.

Bre. B. Feb 10, 2017

Nice having the card and it works almost everywhere I try it, but sad reading it will be shut down by Fitbit, most likely to integrate into their fitness bands...I still love the card and people are still asking me how to get one.

A. G. u. Jan 1, 2017

It does the job. I put a few gas cards on one to shrink what I carry in my wallet.

Cal. H. Sep 19, 2016

The coin card and app work great. I have found coin is accepted most places I go so there are no issues. It's great to only have to carry one card around. The app is fairly easy to use but it is easier to input the card manually than have it read with the included dongle. Highly recommend!

Edw. C. Oct 26, 2016

Everytime I try to open the app, it auto closes immediately. makes having a COIN pointless...

Gen. M. Apr 12, 2019

great product easy to use and if it don't work, use your phone, I would say 95% of the time it works, some terminals cant read it, just show my phone and they type in card number

I liked my coin before but after the last update i like it even more. Added features make it so much better

An awesome concept which has a long way to go for a full execution...
