Our Story

Since 1993, we have been sourcing coffees from origin and roasting every batch by hand. By developing farmer and co-op partnerships, we can be involved in every step of creating a great coffee experience. We are proud to offer our Session Roasted™ coffees in addition to Letterbox Fine Tea, Colectivo Keg Company beers, and made-from-scratch food, Troubadour artisan bread, and baked goods.

Our name was inspired by the artful and funky buses used for public transportation across Latin America, “colectivos” (co-lec-TEE-vo), and the iconic part of everyday life they represent. We are independently owned and roast our award-winning coffees on a pair of vintage Probats in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood. Stop by our Humboldt Boulevard cafe, grab a seat at the bar, and watch our roasters at work!

I will frequently have my order completed and then it gives me an error that says return to Cafe selection (ie step 1). Changing the cafe or reordering doesn't help. You are just SOL. It seems totally random. The company has lost hundreds of dollars of business from me personally because of this. When it works it's great, but utterly disappointing when it doesn't.

In my experience, this app is hardly worth using. There are SO many issues with it. I hate that I HAVE to turn my GPS on to find a cafe instead of being able to manually search for it myself, and I hate that if the cafe isn't open yet it just finds no results instead of showing you it's there but not open. Finally, the map breaks if your phone is in a language other than English, because the map is in the other language; the app then becomes useless because the map is unable to find any cafes.

App worked fine the first time I used it. Disappointed I couldn't just pay with a card rather than loading some other system which of course can only be charged in purposefully imprecise increments to ensure you always have a little bit of money already spent here. Shady. Trying to use app again (because of course I might as well with the bit left on there) and now the app consistently crashes after I added something to the cart. Keep the change, I guess.

love the interface but so many bugs. First, I am never able to order curbside anymore because the "I'm here" button always throws me an error code, or I exit out of the window and there is NO WAY to get back to it! more customizations with drink items would be nice too. other than that it's a great app!

I an changing my review. Giving more stars as there has been improvements. I refuse to order delivery as they use a 3rd party delivery service like post mates etc. But this app is wonderful for pick up orders and curbside

I've been using this app 3-5 times a week for 6 months and have never had an issue. Works as it's supposed to and easy to use. Maybe it's your life that's the issue, not your coffee app.

Shady, not user friendly! You can only load preset amounts of money: $10, $15, $25, then it jumps to $50! My total was $26 so I had to load $25 then $10 in a separate transaction. I don't go here often so that's really frustrating that I had to load so much money. I didn't want to go in store and pay bc of COVID. The points system sucks too. $1 spent= 1 point, and you need at least 50 points for one free drink. The app told me 6-15 minute wait but my drinks were done way before that.

The app employs the scummy practice of making you maintain a balance on a gift card, and only letting you reload the gift card in multiples of $5. So basically, the price of your order is rounded up to the nearest $5, and Colectivo keeps the extra as a free loan until your next purchase. I don't understand why they can't just charge you for what you order, like a normal business. Avoid the app, buy in person.

The app is pretty to look at it, but it is poorly coded. If you chose a popular extra, it selects it twice and double charges you for it. I would also like to be able to see the info the print on the back of the coffee bags on the app (Roast, body, acidity). The same goes for the tea; I'd like to see the type of tea underneath the name (i.e. Piccadilly- Earl Grey). The app is better than when it was first made, but it is still not good.

Mostly works fine, but it's annoying that you can't see prices and some drinks don't have an option to choose a size. Also reeeeeally hate that you can't make a purchase if your balance is under a certain amount (used to be $10, now it's $15???). I don't want to have to spend $15 when I'm trying to get a $4 drink and have enough on my card already.

The app works, however, for coffee orders, saying u want a "splash" of cream??? Why? No ability to leave notes is annoying, I had to call them and specify extra cream. Also, although advertised there really is no curbside pickup. When you try to hit the button to tell them you have arrived, the button doesn't work. Experience overall was decent minor problems with big annoyances.

The app fails when I try to customize a regular coffee. I've cleared the data, uninstalled/reinstalled, restarted, it still breaks each time. Other drinks and food seem ok, it's just the Brewed Coffee selection.

Predatory payment scheme. Instead of directly paying for your order, you have to first load money into the app. But, you can only load money in select increments ($5, $10, etc). So you have to load more money into the app than your order costs, and leave the change stuck in the app.

Looks nice, can't use it. Installed it recently because it's the only way to order for pick up. You're immediately asked to provide your loyalty number it sign up for a new account (no guest order option available), the latter of which I had to do. After entering my email I was supposed to be emailed a verification code which I needed to enter to continue. 1hr later, still no code in my inbox or spam folders. Tried to request a new code numerous times, no luck. Useless.

Works okay until it doesn't work at all. The user interface is not intuitive and sometimes the café I use, which is closest to me, doesn't show up even though they're open for pickup. So then I've loaded money on the card for NOTHING!!

Update from 11/5: Was actually able to place an order for curbside this morning, to my utter surprise. However, upon arriving to my selected location the order wouldn't pop up on my screen and I couldn't let them know I was there to pick it up. It only gave me the option to reorder... PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, fix this app so I can enjoy the convenience of ordering ahead. :I Update from 9/30: Still not working. Gonna see if u installing the app and reinstalling will help.

Even with the update you can't pay with a card. I'm not going to load $10 on a gift card to pay for a $3 coffee. Even if you request to not share your location, every new page you enter the app (not phone OS) gives you a "this is how you change your settings to give us your location" message. Absolutely terrible user experience, difficult to navigate. I thought after how negative the reviews here are there would be some significant changes but there's very little. Support the workers union!!

Currently seems to be broken, won't load when selecting cafe for pickup, sucks that I need to load money into my app "wallet" instead of just paying for my order. Also sucks that when I am paying with points I need to have enough in my wallet to cover what it would cost if I wasn't using points. Seems shady that I always will need to spend more than the total cost of my order

The October 2020 app update brings some much-needed transparency to the prices of what you're ordering, but still requires you to load money onto your account to pay for your order. There's no way to pay with a credit card, and the app forces you to pick from preset reload amounts. I'm not going to load my account with $20 to buy a bag of coffee that costs $15.25. Allow customers to pay with credit cards directly, or at least choose how much money they're loading on their account!

Agree with the others, there are two major problems here: 1) prices not displayed anywhere 2) minimum reload is ludicrous for purchases. I don't want to carry at Colectivo balance, and even if I did, you don't even tell me how much I would want to load before I have to make the decision. I like Colectivo, but both of these practices are decidedly non customer friendly and are usually characteristic of scam businesses. Please reconsider both of these.

App crashes all the time. Usually have to restart it 2-3 times before it is usable. It also sends notifications that just display JSON data. Otherwise, design is good. Lacks ability to see earned points history.

Recent update to loyalty system broke app. Locations don't pop up, if you do manage to slip in an item to order it crashes immediately upon attempting to complete it. Might want to debug.

Like that I can use for my loyalty points but cant order through app because it says there are no locations near by. Search for locations doesnt work eathier. I live in Wauwatosa, there is one like 5 minutes from my house.

Works well and is a nice app, but it feels pretty shady that you don't show prices and only allow us to pay in increments of $10 minimum. Plus if I have more than enough in points I still need to have enough money on my card to use my rewards points.

This app is cooltoo see points and that option instead of lookin online or going in. But the gift card option is still frustrating. Tried too do curb side because i had an infant and a 5 yr old with me. Well the gift card didnt go thru and was invalid. It wasnt mind you. So i ended up having to wait for a slow moment too go and run in w the kids. The cashier had no idea what i was talking about and could not help. In the end i went in and paid w that very gift card that was invalid!

The app is really bad. You are out of luck if you want to customize your drink outside of the allowed choices. There is no way to enter comments on your order. I should not have to select my preferred location each time I order. Fix these and other issues brought up by your customers. The coffee and crew are great! The app is not.

Displays "no cafes available" more often than not. Location GPS filter doesnt seem to work - just list them! When this happens I can't order. I also echo what other people have said about being annoyed you need to reload a colectovo card instead if just pay directly.
