Collins English Dictionary is a "Must Have" for me, and I own it in hardback and mobile versions. It is far more comprehensive than other reference books. I should know, for I've read dictionaries as a hobby for 66 years!. 'Collins English Dictionary is surely top shelf reading. Thank you for requesting my input!
This app keeps informing me that l need to download all definitions because l have no data. I have service provider's data and continuous Wi-Fi. It's very annoying. "Do not ask again" option is ignored. I do not like American spellings of certain words. I'm not American. I speak proper English. Maybe l should try The Oxford dictionary instead.
Word of the day is rarely informative. I have just deleted the oxford english dictionary app from my phone and thought, 'try Collins' instead. Unfortunately this app suffers from the same issue(s). Main thing for me is the word of the day which is rarely a word one hasn't used or understood in everyday conversation. Please make the word of the day at least a little interesting, todays' was "cartoon-like". Now, I wonder what that could possibly mean!!! Educate us, don't patronise!
I should have read the reviews before wasting my time. You need to or commit to pay before using this app. It forces you to allow it to access your files, media etc. It crashed every time I tried to use it. Does not work offline. If the developer wants money that much, then sell the app not trick people to download an app that they can't use without a credit/debt card.
Swapping between dictionary / thesaurus is clumsy. Better put the option in the same page of a word ( instead of going out and in for the same word). Also, no supportive images where necessary. The website version is far far far better.
I enjoy my experience using the Collin dictionary, it aided me learn new words. In Additional, my favourite function of all is that it looks up words when I highlight the word in overdrive. The overall experience was pleasant and enjoyable.
Pros.. Collins dic has the best concise and easy to understand definitions. Secondly it covers almost each field of knowledge Science, History.... Cons.. The offline Dictionary data downloading is worst. The downloading goes a little then stops. It much hard to download the offline data😡
If I didn't need to pay 50nzd for full price, maybe 5 stars. I need it for my studies, proofreading UK courses as well. Has punctuation marks, full stop - period explanation as well so very useful. Will need to use my studies account to pay for it. Has UK, US differences as well, so useful. Good for study concerns at present.
It is pity that the dictionary doesn't provide definitions to many words. it has made me frustrated with the lable of paid content. e. g., meaning of "immiseration" is not available in this unabrigded and full dictionary. I have chosen this dictionary thinking it would satiate my extensive needs but no: it frustrated even more. There are several words, not just the above mentioned one. They will create a new dictionary for that, and ask us to pay again and have "collection" mobi gems.
Word definitions are one of the easiest to understand. 4 stats because one issue I have is the share button on the bottom right blocks whatever word is underneath it and can't be removed.
It use to be a good app. But now, is full of ads and without money one can not even access it. It's a waste of MB downloading the app. It doesn't work offline at all.
Intrusive ads and extortionate cost of removing them ruins this dictionary and others on MobiSystems, even before it pesters me to rate it highly. Weak, short definitions, not the full ones I expect of a large Collins dictionary complete my disappointment. Get Merriam-Webster instead for an app, or buy a large Collins on paper or a *compatible* kindle.
A must have for Scrabble aficionados; bought the premium version. I hope that a future release has the 13th edition of the dictionary.
Hopeless dictionary. It doesn't work properly. Certain words take a lot of time to display their meanings. Also, it doesn't work in the offline mode.
Abysmal app, like many other reviews many of the first words I checked failed to find definitions or to look up in thesaurus. Such a shame as Collins is my fave for a physical book.
Brilliant, have this in book form, weighs a ton! Now I don't have to lug the thing down to the pub once a week when we play Scrabble! 😁
Imo the perfect app combo for word clearing/vocabulary expansion is this, the Websters full app, the Oxford English + thesuarus full app, and the Etymology Explorer.
I really wanna support this app. Considering its disconnected to the web database ( unable to find word here which I able to find on web ). Seems like I can't rely on the app
Not worth buying, but still, the online mode can be used to search for a word or two. Unfortunately, that too works for a time ,and then, you have to pay.
A terrible app that is comprehensively inferior to Collins Dictionary's own mobile website! I don't know why they bother making an app if it's going to be such a clearly interior offering as this one.
Barely used so far, 5 definitions in 4 days. I prefer advertising so it's free. 30 day trial then its expensive.
I'd tell you what the app is like, but every time I open it I get a full screen advert, and when I close the ad the app closes too
Easy to use, pronounciation guide, convenient when you are in a hurry.
The moment u type a word add pops up with loud music . As a teacher this is very irritating in a classroom so had to uninstall it
Excellent for my kid. She is learning the meaning, uses, pronounciation as well as phonetics .
Almost all of Mobisystem's dictionaries are outdated, Collins has already released the 13th edition and here it is still the 11th
i've always loved this dictionary. just too many ads though.
Very poor quality aap, does not give sufficient explanation. Web page is good than this.
It requires internet connection to search the mean of word and it is paid application Rs2000/- which is very higher.
The app is useless. It doesn't appear in the 'share' list, it shows a minimum info compared to the Collins web site, it searchs veeeery slow and it pops advertising on every move.
