Applications of the sound masking and cancellation effects of background noise (especially colored noise) include studying, headache alleviation, focused work, better sleep, improved reading comprehension, relaxation and meditation, and calming babies.
Can you use white noise for a sleeping baby? Absolutely! Babies actually find quietness stressful. The baby-calming effect of a car ride largely lies in the engine and road noises acting as a baby sleep sound. Brown noise (also known as Red noise) is just as effective as car noise for a baby sleep sound. Don't be scared to crank up the volume for sleepless newborns, the womb was actually quite noisy!
White noise is the most widely known, but many other colors of noise exist. Pink noise is based on human perception of frequency intensity, while Red / Brown noise is the preferred colored noise for many for its pleasant low rumbling sound.
So, which colored noise helps you sleep better? The answer is: whichever you like best! There is no right or wrong answer.
This app does not make use of a sound file playing in a loop, but generates the sound using your device CPU. This results in an excellent quality random noise generator with no annoying clicking for your daily use!

Edit: I fixed this issue (blipping, interruptions, hiccups) by putting my putting my phone next to the Bluetooth receiver of my sound system instead of on the other side of the room. Also, when the app randomly stops in the middle of the night, it may have to do with battery optimization settings and the need to give permission to the app to have unoptimized battery use. The developer has been responsive and interested in helping, so I changed my review to higher since it works fine except for a few settings that Pixel 2 users may need to adjust to have quality, interrupted sound overnight. Previous: The sound is great but for some reason on my pixel 2 and bluetoothing this to my bass speaker system, I get blips and interruptions of sound that are nearly as bad as what I'm trying to block out. If it is a sound app, it shouldn't experience any blips or interruptions if people call or you receive an email or text overnight. The hiccups are very distracting like it isn't a continuous loop. I had my phone on silent too. Maybe I will try airplane mode or a different app. Gave it an honest try for 5 days.
Love the interface. Very slick and simple. Would be perfect except the sound sometimes drops in and out and sometimes the sound just completely stops playing. (no timer being used and not on Bluetooth, play back from phone speaker). If these things can be fixed it would be perfect. And I paid for the no ads version before I realized these issues since they only happen randomly. I changed the battery optimization for the app an it's still doing it. Check out "white Noise plus"
An equalizer that can handle playing the individual, as well as combined, inputs of each type of noise function. That in and of itself - would be the perfect next logical step in adding functionality to your app. Much luck. Great app!
App has a sleep timer, which is great, except it doesn't work because the app just turns itself off when it feels like it. So using this app for sleep to drown out tinnitus or other nosie is a useless cause- which is too bad, since the red noise does sound very nice. Do yourself a favor and find a different noise app because this one is trash.
Skips. Turns off before timer expires. And yes, I adj'd battery settings so phone wouldn't put app to sleep. Would appreciate a refund for the premium fee.
Love it!! Phone sound is a bit sharp, but hooking it up to a speaker is perfect!
Very nice and easy to use. Ads are not intrusive but to support developer and don't bomb the whole app. I slept like a baby using this.
I haven't noticed ads... I've been busy sleeping to Red Noise. (Red seems to be the best choice for sleep.)

This app is simple. If you like various sounds of white, red pink noise. Its great to listen to red noise & sleep without any sound interruption that most other sleep apps have.

Awesome. Thank you very much. The only reason it didn't get a 5 was the lack of timer. I like to use brown noise when I work and have it cut off after 45 minutes to indicate a break. Like a pomodoro timer. Implement an adjustable timer and I promise I'll come back and 5 star it. Even purchase for a reasonable price.
The red noise is perfect to fall asleep to. My only suggestion is in the drop down tray it would be nice to have a pause/play option.

This App is great for sleeping with my Tinnitus. A quiet room is the worse and a little colored noise keeps the phantom sounds I hear down to a minimum. You will find one of the colors of noise that fits you the best at a particular time and then the volume can be adjusted to match your internal noise. You'll soon be able to ignore all the noise and drift off to sleep much easier. The App shuts down after the time you set and it never bothers my wife.
