Columbus

The City of Columbus has released a free Mobile Application for iPhones allowing area residents enhanced access to city and community resources. The App puts City Services at the fingertips of residents and visitors, bringing to life many of Andrew J. Ginther mayoral initiatives to improve the quality of life of the Columbus residents.
The App uses many integrated technologies, such as GPS for location services, RSS for City News Feeds, and has an entire Social Media Center providing access to Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube information. The App encompasses four mayoral initiatives to help city residents: My Neighborhood, Get Active, Get Green, and 311. The My Neighborhood campaign allows residents to easily select and map government buildings, local entertainment and retail venues, as well as other useful Columbus sites. Users can access COTA bus schedules, view Capital Project information, learn about Neighborhood Pride areas and events, view Health Inspections of area restaurants, markets, pools, spas, and tattoo parlors as well as other various information. The Get Active initiative enables residents to access information about parks, community centers, golf courses, pools, sports facilities, schedules and standings, learn if your game is rained out, view an events calendar, park and trail guides, and read tips from prominent community members on healthy eating and exercise. The Get Green initiative encourages sustainable behavior with environmental facts and pointers in addition to information on what restaurants, business and non-profit organizations are GreenSpot members. The app also includes a 311 service center submission section where residents can submit and check on the status of service requests from their mobile devices. In addition, residents can enter their address in the settings to customize the app to send push notification about trash, recycling, and yard waste days. Additional push notifications are available for those who wish to receive News and Alert information.

This iPhone App is one piece of the foundation of a strategic mobile program for the City of Columbus. With smart phone use already at 50% for much of the US, the Columbus App was the obvious next-step in improving city-to-resident communication. The City of Columbus hopes to capitalize on this phenomenon and make public services more accessible and engaging to residents. Since its launch in 2011, the City of Columbus, Department of Technology has been received a CITE (Consumerization of IT in the Enterprise) Award for ‘Best Customer App’ for its accomplishments with the MyColumbus app.

ACCOLADES:2014 CITE Award for Best Customer App “The MyColumbus app and their innovation in getting a design school involved is genius. I like that the hometown ecosystem was heavily leveraged. The app layout is intuitive and well thought out.”2013 Computerworld Honors Laureate2011 Finalist for the TechColumbus Innovation Award

A great app to have for Columbus Ohio residents. It is very easy to navigate, has useful information, and is the place where you can go to schedule things like balk collection or submit service issues for the city

Does not work. This app use to be great to tell me when trash/recycle days were, but for the past few months, it just freezes at the original splash page. You would think they would have fixed it by now, but they have not. I have uninstalled and installed again as well, to no avail

== Update 10/17 : == Is this app isn't updated, it should be pulled from the Google Play Store. It literally (correct use of the word) does not work on current versions of Android. == Previous Review ==: The only part of this app that is worth anything - or behaves as expected - is the collection schedule. I would use this more if it wasn't such a piece of bat guano. I've made feedback multiple times with specific issues found and steps to reproduce. But even their feedback isn't in-app.

Until the past 2 weeks this has been a great app. Now all I get is an error at start up and it won't load at all on my Android. This app is totally useless now. 5/26 Update; app has been fixed and seems to be working great.

Was passable with useful information including trash pick up schedules and the ability to submit 311 request. Then about a month ago it started to just sit on the boot screen and not load. Using an Android phone.

Helpful app that does more than keep you up to date with whats going on, in Columbus; Find out when your garbage and/or recycle pick up day is, schedule a bulk pick up, report a street light outage... Its a useful tool, for anyone living in, and around the city.

App is able to tell what the trash/recycle/yard waste collections days are if you enter address but the notifications and alerts NEVER WORK!

Used to be useful. Now it's just garbage. For what we Pay on city taxes it seems like they could at least have an IT expert that knew what they were doing for a city application

This Apps is a garbage. Where is our tax money goes? Varieties of food item and expensive wine for the Governor? Why the important App like this one is not upgraded?

You are better off using the main website instead of the application if you intend on getting results. The application seems rushed, incomplete, and buggy. It feels and looks like an alpha-test release with its super-sized fonts, slow scrolling, and cramped text spacing. Avoid for now.

MANY menus have giant font and scroll way too slow. Almost unusable. Trash collection alerts not working either. Please fix.

I've never been more motivated to give a review. This has got to be the worst app of all time. Smh

Ty. B. Feb 17, 2018

You can't scroll through the text, now so the menus with very well. Actually admirable how much this app is broken.

Rob. W. Aug 25, 2016

311 request using map feature doesn't work.

Chr. R. Aug 26, 2017

Great concept, poor execution. The address lookup feature won't load streets so I can update my address.

Jer. P. Apr 25, 2018

App was great on iPhone, unusable on Android. Oversized font, can't scroll, alerts don't work.
