Compass

Compass is one of the most if not the most essential app every Android should have installed. Compass is the most precise compass app on Google Play. Compass app is compass in your pocket. Use it on camping trips, to navigate in unknown territory or when you get lost. You never know when it might come handy. It might even save your life one day! Compass is easy to use; just use it like a real compass. Compass app is more than just showing degrees and north, south, east and west. I have designed Compass with user experience in mind, large numbers and easy to read design. Compass also allows you to set your directions by rotating the bezel for easier and professional navigation. How to use?First we’ll need to cover a little bit of compass jargon first. The part of Compass that moves and always points north is called the card (with N,S,E, and W indicated, and a beveled edge with a series of numbers on it). There is a movable ring around the edge of the compass, called the bezel. A red double line across the top of the compass is called the lubber line, and finally, there is a little window above the compass which is often named as side-window (as it is on the side of a real compass).Side-window navigation couldn’t be simpler. You point the lubber line on top of your compass at where you want to go. Now as long as you hold your compass flat in front of you with the lubber line pointing in the direction you’re going, you should always see the same number in your window as long as you’re going the right way. If you see a different number, turn until you see the same number. The downside of the side window method is that you need to remember your number. Navigating with bezel works essentially the same as using the side window, but your bezel remembers your number for you. All you do is, point the lubber line on top of your compass at where you want to go, and then wait until the card settles down and stops moving. Then turn your bezel until the double triangle on the edge of the bezel (the notch right by the number zero on the bezel) is bracketing the north arrow on the card. Now as long as you hold your compass flat in front of you with the lubber line pointing in the direction you’re going, you should always see the north arrow inside the notch, as long as you’re going the right way. If not, turn until you see the north arrow inside the notch. Notice that if you’ve adjusted the bezel correctly, the number in the side window is also the number directly across from you at the front end of the lubber line. In other words, if you turned the bezel counterclockwise until the notch bracketed the north arrow, the 120 on the bezel would be at the far end of the lubber line. Notice that on the card, the number showing in the side window is 120. If you were holding this compass and going in the direction of the lubber line, you’d be on a heading of 120.Now you should have learned how to go to desired direction. But how do you get back? Easy! If you’re thinking in terms of the bezel, simply turn until the north arrow faces not to the notch, but to the single triangle that’s exactly across from the notch. Now you’re pointed back where you came. The really tricky part of using your compass isn’t learning what the numbers mean and how to adjust the bezel. The most common mistakes are not holding your compass flat, and not actually going in the direction your lubber line is pointing.Large iron and steel objects can influence the magnetic sensor in your Android device, causing it to point in the wrong direction. This is called deviation. If you suspect this is happening, simply move away from the object several feet and the problem should correct itself.► Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gammaplay/ ► Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/GammaPlay

Under most conditions the compass works as well as the mapping compass I normally use when hiking. The accuracy drops off in areas with high Fe content or electric power, but that is true for physical compass as well. I think this, plus maps loaded into my phone, are a good quick access nav gear in comparison to the physical compass and maps.

Need a (software) lock for the outer heading ring, because it gets moved to a new heading at the slightest touch. On a real compass this ring is held in place by a stiff amount of friction. Please make your app reflect the real life device that you are copying your design to emulate in the first place.

Excellent app! Simple and easy to use. One of the very few apps that have a rotatable index bezel. Perfect for dive navigation training. One request would be if you could please add the side window, similar to a real diving compass. Kindest regards and thanks again for this great app.

I love the user interface of this compass, but it never reliably pointed north -- I had to go through the calibration routine every time I wanted to take a reading, and even then, it wasn't reliable (sometimes I had to re-calibrate it several times). If I didn't already know which way was North, I'd have been lost using this compass. Other compass apps on my phone do not have this problem.

The compass works fine. The bezel's ratcheting sound disappeared after a while and has never come back. I upgraded to the paid version and still no sound. I contacted the developer who never got back to me regarding the problem. Compass is okay, customer service is non-existent.

I do not like the ads being continually displayed at the bottom of the screen but the compass does read accurately and the file size for the app itself is much smaller than others available. Does what I wanted it to do. 👍

I really like this compass app. It is simple to use a beautifully designed. It is almost exactly like using a standard old fashioned compass. Fantastic job on the realistic design and graphics. Keep 'em coming.

Just installed & so far exactly true North. Was asked to calibrate phone 1st. Works without mobile & background data enabled. Will test it on the road, also in flight mode & adjust rating as appropriate. Also NO annoying ads. Very easy to use. Well done developers

Works as a compass should. Contains banner ads that stay out of the way and no pop-ups so I'm satisfied. Only shortfall is accuracy around power lines and magnetic objects which goes for any compass anyway. This app behaviors like a normal physical compass.

Works only when connected to Wifi. So, when you're outside, this is useless. That's like an ATV powered by extension cord.

Very simple app with clear readings. If it doesn't seem right move it away from a wall or any Appliances and it'll adjust itself quickly or so it seems.

I spend quite a bit of my time hiking and going fishing. I like to go where others don't usually go. I habitually keep my phone with me with your accurate, quick, and handy compass. If you have ever found yourself alone and lost in unfamiliar territory you already know the rest! It is far more important than most people may be aware of. Thanks!

It has worked very well for me I had a yard project going on and it was great 👍, I also use it to help me to be able to re-locate my way back to my fishing holes... it's awesome for me. Thanks for all your Great Work and let me know what other apps you have available? 9/2021, Dee-Dee

This is a life saver if you have poor directional sense (or, like me, none at all!) I can now confidently use Google map directions when walking about an unfamiliar city. The directions say to go south on [insert name of street here]? No longer a problem! I just open this app and point!

I needed a compass app and looked at several before choosing this one mainly because the face it has is great. Also the movement is nice and slow and stabilizes smoothly.

Without landmarks in my wooded area, I depend on a compass for directions. This app works perfectly while I'm hiking or walking through the forest and helps me navigate perfectly.

Very functional and easy to use. Found it is very accurate when comparing to a callibrated compass.

Amazing tool above and beyond other compass apps. Practical, accurate, minimal ads, love to use it while hiking. Please keep up the great work.

Very simple to calibrate, and easy to use. From checking with a regular compass seems to be very accurate. Very pleased with this app

Exactly what I needed a good reliable compass with out a bunch of confusing extras. And the dial has all I need. Less is more.

Ste. T. Mar 3, 2021

This is a really nice and very good Compass , really good for finding True North , which differs slightly from magnetic North , this is ok as this is how it is supposed to work , if you are using a Telescope to find the North star then by using this app or a magnetic compass then you can easily find it , great app Sir , keep up the good work .

Dan. B. Jun 15, 2020

Using this compass to verify readings on a small regular compass, that sometimes gives confusing readings. So far this compass is a big help to me. I use the small compass setting up my telescope during the day. I needed this compass to verify my small one is right. Thanks for posting this.

Not fussy, no useless frills. It does the job and it's useful for teaching. Only problem is that sometimes the bezel is a bit too sensitive and over-reacts to a light touch, but this is no great problem

Tim. F. Sep 22, 2019

What more could you want? If anything it's too sensitive, I put it down to get the most accurate reading. My thanks to the developer, now is there a way to make this tell the temp HERE rather than depending upon the Weather Channel or someone else to tell you what the temperature is in general in your town thank you.

Mic. G. Feb 2, 2020

App works as intended, but the only 2 things are #1 needs to be way to switch to magnetic reading. #2 ads cover part of the screen.

Mic. D. Sep 30, 2019

The direction of NORTH on the dial needle points south/east, NOT to the NORTH as a true real compass should and does. I recalibrated my phone many times, still the needle did not point NORTH. I was comparing it to the needle on my "real" military issued compass, never did the needle ever point NORTH. This app is not worth your time.

Accurate. Simple compass face is easy to interpret. Level is very useful and gets frequent use by me at work.

Cat. D. Mar 13, 2021

Great app & I didn't even know how to read a compass, so this helped me a ton because I could see exactly where the exact middle of Southeast is! You are a fantastic app designer and creator!

Kev. F. May 26, 2020

Moved to a new area, everything is harder to gauge. This compass app has been superior in me getting my bearings. Will recommend to everyone.
