Compass Galaxy

This is a functional and simple compass application without unnecessary permissions. I tried to make the application easy to use and without errors. I hope you like the compass.

I try to work hard to make my applications reliable. If you have any ideas about Compass Galaxy app, write in the comments. I will be happy to address them.

This is a great app. No permissions needed, no BS, and it's easy to use. It seems to work on magnetic lines of force, like a traditional magnetic compass. The downside to that is you have to make a correction for your local magnetic variation if you want to use it with a map based on true north. If the developer would let you store that correction, I would give it 5 stars. Also, your accuracy is going to suffer if you're near large iron or steel objects. In the great outdoors, no problem.

I questioned it at first but seems legit, as long as the Satelite or signal is usable. I even tested it without Data and Wi-fi be be sure, and sure enough, works. But I'm not a Hiker, so I wouldn't certify it may work incase your lost in the woods with no signal. Good to have if your driving and have to stop to see with a map style though.

As a previous reviewer stated, the issue about calibration not being documented would have thrown me, if I'd not seen it mentioned in the previous review. It still took me a long time to figure out that the figure of eight movement had to be performed vertically and not horizontally or in any other orientation. Very confusing. The listing also mentions that the app contains ads, but I couldn't find or see any, not that I want them.

No luck. Made dozens of figure 8s (like writing on a chalkboard, as someone suggested). No luck. It still tells me the sun rises in the south. Never did find the three bars several users pointed to whose alignment (or lack thereof) would indicate the level of calibration (and, yes, I could really use one of those bars right about now). On the plus side, it's free.

Well, I installed it on my phone and it felt somewhat wrong, so I thought well maybe it's my phone's sensors aren't that accurate. So I decided to try it on a different device... Result: one compass points in one direction, the other another direction, neither is North! I must say it looks real nice, though. Maybe if I could manually position the pointer at the North it would work from there on since it feels very responsive and somewhat consistent in its deviation.

Superb app. I agree with other users who've written glowing comments about this app. I love that there are NO adverts. I love that there are NO permissions required. Just works straight from the tin. So simple. I found that calibration was a breeze particularly when I turned it upside down and did it far away from any electrical equipment. I use it in my van to get an accurate idea which way I'm heading. Also in our yacht as a backup for our main compass. Congratulations. I'd rate it 6 stars if I could.

Excellent, love the minimalistic design. nice to have an app that is simply what it says it is, its a compass, plain and simple, not an egg beater and a million other things, just a compass, BUT it does the job well and is a jolly decent compass! Really appreciate the simplicity, my advice would just be to keep it this way and dont add in a bunch of "features"!! Very well done!!

Works great if you are not in close proximity to a magnet of even low positive draw. So, using in a automobile with a system that has anything like a midrange speaker in the door panel is going to pull it and point the N to the speaker it's closest to. But if you get out and walk around with it in your hand and avoid anything magnetic, it works perfect. Actually, it's a little bit too. Sensitive and can be useful in a car if it wasn't. Or had a setting to lower the sensitivity adjustment.

Nice. Has to be recalibrated fairly often, but that's easy enough to do, just wave your phone in a figure-8 so the magnetic sensor can take some sample readings (it might be that the weakness is my Samsung A50's mag sensor and not the app). But it's free, it works, no commercial intrusions on the function (although ads ARE displayed in a little box they don't cover any of the dial you need), calibration is easy, and it's way better than the others I've tried. I recommend.

this definitely needs calibration instructions. What you do to get all three bars is TURN YOUR PHONE UPSIDE DOWN, point it away from you, and make a few large figure 8s with your arm. I had to do a few little flourishes to get it to work. Once you do that you're golden, this is accurate. You shouldnt have to go into the review section to figure out how to use an app though.

A very good app to have for 'just in case...' scenarios. Instructions are unclear to an extent. The app tells you to wave your phone in a figure 8 and then set it on a flat surface to calibrate. What it doesn't clarify is that your phone needs to be facing screen-side down when casting your magic iSpell (I know it's andriod.) Other than that, if I find myself lost on a trail with no service, a horribly packed hiking sack and a phone with 80% battery, I now don't risk being totally lost!

Needed a compass quickly to determine the direction an object was facing. This compass was quick to download, quick to calibrate, and so far seems accurate (at least enough for my needs). I'd recommend it to others. EDIT: changing review to 3 stars. This workes well in my house (with wi-fi). However, when not in range I could only get a message of "not connected...).

I only downloaded this app after reading the good reviews and high rating. It is easy to calibrate and seem to agree with my Suunto compass which is a bit heavy to carry around when travelling. Also I like the fact that it did not ask for permission to access my personal info and also it function as a basic compass without all the other unnecessary features.

This simple compass has a very nice design. However, it has an unpleasant flaw: Even with the phone sitting stationary on a flat surface, the reading will not settle. The reading varies +/- 3° in a very jittery fashion. It's not that I need perfect precision, but it's just annoying. I'd give it 5 stars if not for the twitchiness.

After reading the reviews I decided to download this app after some disappointing experience with other compass apps . Once I had managed to get the 3bars on the bottom of the screen it worked really well and seems pretty damn accurate . If you have a magnetic clip on your phonecase it will disrupt the compass orientation ,you have been warned ! Brilliant app and thanks to the developer .

This is an elegant and minimalistic app. I'm using it to navigate around the Philippines right now, and it hasn't let me down once. I use it in conjunction with my mapping apps especially where I can't afford to take a wrong turn.... it's a nightmare in Manila to do a U turn if you miss your turn. Splendid app and easily 5 stars. Thanks developer!

I guess it works. No settings or explanation at all within the app. Not really sure if I should hold my phone vertically like I'm making a phone call or horizontally so the screen faces straight up to get an accurate Direction. No clue what the green bars on the bottom mean. Not really sure what the number with the degrees in the middle mean either. It's constantly changing.

Was looking for a solid, easy-to-use, well-designed compass, and lucked into this one. I used it for basic navigation in and around the Grand Canyon, and it performed perfectly. (I don't presume to speak for serious hikers, who might want a compass with more bells and whistles. I'll only say that this compass more than met my needs.) Thanks to the designer for a terrific app!

Bob. J. Feb 26, 2019

I haven't used it a lot yet, but you do need to get three green bars alight below the compass. As others have said, to get all three bars green move your phone by drawing a big number 8 in the air a few times, 7 or 8 should do it. Obviously not in public unless you want to look a spanner ;). Otherwise it's a great app, definitely worth installing.

From a visual point of view this app is a 5.0. Where the app falls short is that the app does not have any damping. The degree display is a quick output of readings. What is needed is a running average of perhaps 5 or more readings. If you place your phone on a stable surface like a table the compass card moves around as if your phone is vibrating. With some damping the reading would stabilize and the app would be useful.

I use this app to orientate my surroundings a lot and I have used many other apps that were nowhere near the accuracy of this compass. Being a Navy Veteran I know how important the accuracy is. This matches my compass that I used in the Navy I would say 96% of the time. The accuracy and convince of having it on my phone makes it a winner in my book. The calabrian does a wonderful job. only draw back is that I can't calibrate it when I see it drift. needs a way to do it every time it's opened

Great app! Calibration process was a bit frustrating, but it finally worked after finding a review that said to make the figure 8 motion as if you were holding your phone flat against a chalkboard or wall. Utility would be further improved if one could select to correct for declination, or not. (Some maps have the meridian lines showing magnetic North).

Mik. C. Nov 25, 2018

It does exactly what the compass in my desk does, only it's an app on my phone; faster, easier to access, reliable, there when I need it. Unlike the one in my desk. you can't carrie around everything you think you might need? but a nice app.? That's the simple beauty of it all isn't it. Thanks Buddy, nice app.

O.K. if you don't need any sort of accuracy. I recalibrated my android device several times (and had 3 green bars) but found that if you move the device, the previous heading can move as much as 20° compared to the previous heading. Just look out for rocks, trees, cliffs and other obstructions that will be where you don't expect them, and you might be O.K.

Exceptionally simple, fast, and effective. I have read one negative review that suggested very bad accuracy and a jumpy dial for the readings, but this review attributed this to the app when those results are typical of hardware inadequacies. This app's developer said they spent extra effort to make it accurate, which suggests full use and calibrated correction for a decent hardware and OS version.
