My first impression of all apps is how easy they are to use and how quickly one can follow the instructions and start using the app. I gave this app a 4 instead of a 5 simply because I couldn't figure out how to delete the useless directions to cities around the world that I simply didn't need and that took up space. I finally came up with a hard press. Delete the useless major cities directions and I'd be giving it a five.
As long as you have an excellent signal and your provider has no lag in their data speeds, the app will be accurate. Anything outside of this - especially if in an area with poor signal strength and you will not have accurate readings. This app is excellent.
No ads, very clean, simple, two-tone interface (red and black). Little in the way of customization, but it's okay; I don't feel particularly compelled to change anything about it. Pretty consistent with direction once calibrated.
Just as the description, free and no ads, it just works. Compare to the true gyro compass onboard commercial ships (which is regularly checked for error), the error of the app is about 10 to 15 degrees. But that might be due to the phone itself. Anyway, it's good enough to find the the normal life daily heading.
I am truly familiar w/my city, but not all neighborhoods . Due to several frwy onramp closures, Waze kept directing me further away from my comfort zone, and my sense of direction was off. To redirect myself, I pulled out the app and it FAILED! Nothing I did could make it work. I was lost, scared and frustrated 40 miles from home, alone at 2am. Why 2 stars? Im giving it the benefit of the doubt. Why, i dont know.
Such a useful ap. And to have a simple version without ads is very praiseworthy. Everyone should have this ap. Especially students. Without even trying, it is superbly instructional as far as geometry of a circle and navigation and even understanding analog clocks. A big thank you and well done to the developers of this ap.
I needed to aim my tv antenna toward the local towers 30 miles away. I needed to find degrees from true north. As far as I can tell, once calibrated, finding the needed direction was as easy as reading the digital readout on the compass. Be sure to do the calibration !
You are nuts not to have this Compass(or any Compass App) on your phone. i was 25 miles offshore on a rental Fishing boat. Did not notice there was no Compass on the helm. Electronics went out!! It was almost noon. would have taken a few hours to figure put direction by sun. was able to open this app and use it for navigation. It saved the day!!
Nice app. You kept it simple, usable, and useful. I was hiking and got turned around, was able to find cell service and downloaded it. It helped me get out in time for a late dinner ;-) Thanks! Just upgraded to pro.
The app works well standing still but not so much when moving faster than walking speed. While driving, the app did not recognize the car turning and wound up putting the sunrise to the South when I was facing North. It corrected itself after the car came to a stop.
Like the convenience of this compass app. Easy to use giving me longitude and latitude along with elevation. I can easily fix my position anywhere while I travel by ATV or hike, and find my way back. This is s simple product that is very accurate.
The bad: Runs in the background for no good reason. Drains my battery unnecessarily. The good: Simple and easy to look at. No ads to clutter my screen. Smooth animation.
The best free one I found so I paid and am satisfied. I cannot figure out how to get 3 bars accuracy as the figure 8 doesn't seem to work for me. Suggestion: Maybe a calibration menu/popup could help optimize?
I use this app all the time in conjunction with maps. Many time s maps will tell you to start out in a particular direction such as head north etc. When in new countries or cities it really helps to get oriented before walking.
Not so sure! Seems to work when turned North, East and West but when turned South it goes crazy. moves from East to West across the southern point erratically. i may have some interference of some sort. i will try some other compass apps to verify.
A correction, it needs permissions for the advanced functions like displaying true north. Original incorrect review: It is a working compass with no ads, and it requires no permissions. What more could you want from a compass?
I'm currently in a metropolitan area so you would assume being that I have optimal cell reception and unlimited data that this app would function at Peak Performance what actually ends up happening is is that it spins pretty sporadically I have a real compass in my pocket and this thing continually kept telling me that North was in the direction that my own Compass was pointing as Southeast so do not rely on this at all
One of the best compass apps out there. I use if often, it's very accurate. I set up weather stations for data collection and use the app for correct orientation od equipment, excellent. 5 stars
Not sure if I was supposed to hold the phone flat or upright. It makes a huge different but when held next to a real compass it's completely wrong in both positions. I tried connecting via phone data and wifi
just switched from a higher rated compass that MADE me uograde to a completely different version that didnt work. This compass is easy to use and very accurate. Just what I needed.
I thought it would be handy to have just in case, especially where I live. However, it seems to have issues if you're in just such an area that would need it. I live in the mountains and it has difficulty staying accurate and the compass moves extremely slow trying to keep up with even minor movement or jumps well past the amount moved. Small enough app that I'll keep, but I'd recommend having an actual compass if you plan on needing one.
