Compass PRO

This is ad free (no ads) version of my compass: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gamma.compass Compass is one of the most if not the most essential app every Android should have installed. Compass is the most precise compass app on Google Play. Compass app is compass in your pocket. Use it on camping trips, to navigate in unknown territory or when you get lost. You never know when it might come handy. It might even save your life one day! Compass is easy to use; just use it like a real compass. Compass app is more than just showing degrees and north, south, east and west. I have designed Compass with user experience in mind, large numbers and easy to read design. Compass also allows you to set your directions by rotating the bezel for easier and professional navigation. How to use?First we’ll need to cover a little bit of compass jargon first. The part of Compass that moves and always points north is called the card (with N,S,E, and W indicated, and a beveled edge with a series of numbers on it). There is a movable ring around the edge of the compass, called the bezel. A red double line across the top of the compass is called the lubber line, and finally, there is a little window above the compass which is often named as side-window (as it is on the side of a real compass).Side-window navigation couldn’t be simpler. You point the lubber line on top of your compass at where you want to go. Now as long as you hold your compass flat in front of you with the lubber line pointing in the direction you’re going, you should always see the same number in your window as long as you’re going the right way. If you see a different number, turn until you see the same number. The downside of the side window method is that you need to remember your number. Navigating with bezel works essentially the same as using the side window, but your bezel remembers your number for you. All you do is, point the lubber line on top of your compass at where you want to go, and then wait until the card settles down and stops moving. Then turn your bezel until the double triangle on the edge of the bezel (the notch right by the number zero on the bezel) is bracketing the north arrow on the card. Now as long as you hold your compass flat in front of you with the lubber line pointing in the direction you’re going, you should always see the north arrow inside the notch, as long as you’re going the right way. If not, turn until you see the north arrow inside the notch. Notice that if you’ve adjusted the bezel correctly, the number in the side window is also the number directly across from you at the front end of the lubber line. In other words, if you turned the bezel counterclockwise until the notch bracketed the north arrow, the 120 on the bezel would be at the far end of the lubber line. Notice that on the card, the number showing in the side window is 120. If you were holding this compass and going in the direction of the lubber line, you’d be on a heading of 120.Now you should have learned how to go to desired direction. But how do you get back? Easy! If you’re thinking in terms of the bezel, simply turn until the north arrow faces not to the notch, but to the single triangle that’s exactly across from the notch. Now you’re pointed back where you came. The really tricky part of using your compass isn’t learning what the numbers mean and how to adjust the bezel. The most common mistakes are not holding your compass flat, and not actually going in the direction your lubber line is pointing.Large iron and steel objects can influence the magnetic sensor in your Android device, causing it to point in the wrong direction. This is called deviation. If you suspect this is happening, simply move away from the object several feet and the problem should correct itself.

I really love this because it works in airplane mode, without GPS, and in places where there's no signal. There are no ads, and apparently no required permissions. Easy to read at-a-glance. Has the look and feel of a real compass. Clear orienting lines and easy-to-dial bezel. However, I think the app only works as well as your device's magnetometer. My phone's magnetometer can be sensitive to nearby interference, and sometimes is just "off" for no apparent reason. But that's not the app's fault.

This is a nice phone compass. I use an actual compass for maps and mapping, but this suits what I use it for perfectly. It is a good looking compass, easy to use and pretty accurate. If you are looking for a nice phone compass, look no further. You're here! My compass says so. 😁

It is a simple application, it reads the magnetic sensors on your phone and tells you which way your going. No ads, no bells, off line with no cellular signal or wifi needed, and no extra stuff. Just a compass and it loads quickly.

Installed easy. Compass is easy to read. Does not check for a magnometer upon installation (Which it should). Calibration proceedure is somewhat vauge. When calibrated the ap is 180 degrees out of phase, will not calibrate even with re-start. The ap needs to be updated. Will notify ap store of this concern.

I like very much the detailed, accurate and smoothly working interface. I would like though a small desktop widget displaying on top of other apps as well. Moreover, an indicator showing the status of calibration would be very useful.

Fast, not dependable and not over featured with superfilous features. It actually has stopped showing true cardinal points. I'm lost. Looking for a solution, and I even bought the Pro version.

I like this app. It seems work better than the other compass apps I have tried. I say seems because I settled on this without spending much time with the other compass apps. The only time I have had trouble is when I forget to calibate by moving my phone.

Great app, as I suspected by the name. I think a good idea would be, present hyperlinks (buttons) to open various GPS navigation maps, e.g. Google Maps, AllTrails.

Works fine, accurate with no ads @$1.99. It's a backup/checkup for my old fashioned military grade Compass, I've had since Marine 0311, active duty-1980.

Simple. Effective. Know how to read a Compass. No hands held yet when you see True North - it's accurate for me. No extra bells or whistles- just good old fashioned Accuracy.

Description reads, "We bring updates to Google Play regularly to constantly improve speed, reliability, performance and fix bugs," yet the last update was over two years ago. Makes the developer suspect in my estimation. At least their English is decent.

Exactly what's on the tin. If you're just looking for orientation and don't need to do particularly precise orienteering, this is fit for purpose.

Its layout is super simple (really like this), friendly user, no ads & the reading is accurate but the compass movement seems not so smooth hope the developer can fix this. Overall I like this apps

Not used in the field, but it seems good. I got a message saying that the application was made for an older version of android, it would be worth updating the app. It seems to work anyway.

Does not work motorola G power. No controls or any way to check for anything. My phone has a compass according to the literature.

just installed after several years of not using it. it's really improved, calibrated very easily!

Kyl. B. Nov 18, 2021

Pretty decent compass. I've tried a good hand full and finally settled on this one. No problems for about a year now.

Den. O. Oct 23, 2021

It would be better if I had some time to use the app to evaluate it, instead of being asked a few minutes after I'd installed it. Based on perhaps 6 minutes experience it works well.

Not accurate maybe Same app both phones in the same position. one on an Samsung S7 and one on a OnePlus 7 S7 reads 158 S OnePlus 7 reads 227 SW Same with another compass app though.

Like a real compass! just what i was looking for looks study and solid and very percise.

Aks. R. Dec 3, 2020

Best simple app that does not ask you permissions not needed, so no network, camera or other options asked. Just download this safe and simple app.

Gre. P. Jan 5, 2019

very good application. I am using this sop to train my students on how to use the compass underwater. I like this application because simulates the behaviour of the compass we are using underwater.

Ros. B. Aug 27, 2021

Very handy, loads fast. I recalibrate it once or twice a year, and it never let's me down. Thank you for a great, simple to use app!

Nin. M. Feb 10, 2021

So tested this app while driving around town & to my surprise, it was pretty accurate, excellent app to have!

Jas. L. Dec 29, 2019

No updates in 2.5 years? What the hell. If an app isn't updated in 6 months, it should be removed from the play store.

Atu. S. C. Apr 28, 2022

Simple yet seems effective. Will update rating on further use.

Clean and simple. Just want you need in a compass.

Starts with calibration instructions, works great and is very attractive. Love it
