Really excellent. I've been using this app, as well as the rhythm trainer and music reading app, for several months. The progressive design of the lessons is great, and keeps you in the challenging-but-not impossible zone of optimum learning, and it's very satisfying to move onto the next level. Occasionally frustrating, but that goes with the territory. Nice clear UI design too.
Love the app, pretty decent user interface and easy to use I would say that if you're using this app to make sure you don't feel disheartened or discouraged by failing at a level multiple times or being stuck for days. Interval training is difficult so keep trying! You'll get is soon (: A note to the developers: perhaps change the name of the first section from "Easy Mode" to something like "The Basics"? It could help make people feel a bit more at ease with not passing levels Thanks guys x
Great source to train your ear, but order of courses can be frustrating. The first chapters are still hard for me, since you have only two notes and the intervals sound similar. In later chapters you get easier intervals like the minor second and the seventh intervals which are distinct. Also a major and minor chord are way easier to differentiate(they come later) for me then the minor and major third(with this you start). So don't let the start discourage you if you struggle like me.
Good app, but major flaw that it tests differentiating between P4 and P5 harmonic so early. This is one of the most difficult things for me and many others. It prevents me from proceeding unless I cheat using a piano, then I breeze through most of the other chapters without effort. Why put something so hard right at the front? It's discouraging
The app seems very good, but the limitations of levels on the free version makes it not worth the time unless you want to pay the full amount. If you're willing to pay, then it seems like a great tool.
This is a truly excellent app. It's full of content, and thoughtful in explaining concepts and progressing through them. The stars and points make it fun and compelling.
I love all three of the music training apps by this company. Beautifully designed, intuitive navigation, a real pleasure to learn from.
One of those apps that's designed by someone who knows all about programming and nothing about app design. Everything's got an explanation, but it needs it because it's not intuitive. Constant popups and explanation
When I first used Complete Ear Trainer, I realized how useful the app is, and bought Complete Music Reading Trainer as well. Then, the device I was using broke, and it was a few months before I installed Complete Ear Trainer again. The very first time I used it in three months, I scored 100%. A great program, fun and definitely worth the investment. Each module builds on previous listening practices, so new skills continue to be utilized, while engaging with different tones. Complete Ear Trainer is a great way to develop yourself as a musician, and gain confidence when playing with others with no sheet music. Though I don't have perfect pitch, I was able to tune my guitar to fourths, after restringing it, without a tuner. I'm sure you will enjoy the application.
I've recently begun learning the guitar again, after having not played for many years. This app is helping greatly in ear training exercises. The chapters are well thought out and the controls are simple and intuitive. I especially like that you can replay various combinations of intervals as you go, to be able to know and correct your 'sounds'. One of those apps you certainly don't mind having paid for!
Best, most complete and professional music training app on the app store. The interface is clean and straight to the point, without any unnecessary and intimidating features that may dissuade you from learning something as complex as music theory. I've had this app for a long time now, and it's an incredibly effective and fun way to train your ears while simultaneously learning music theory. I've just downloaded their new apps for rhythm and note training, and I have no complaints. Perfect.
Very comprehensive tool for training your ear, from beginner to advanced. The app is not free but it's a very low price to pay to be able to have relative pitch. As a serious musician relative pitch is a fantastic skill to have. The app layout is easy and clean not messy at all, and the learning system is great and doesn't rush you into advanced topics unless you have the basics 100% down.
It's very good and worth the money. Finer gradation would be helpful for those of us with less natural talent. For example, I would be challenged to distinguish 4ths and 5ths across two or three root notes, instead of a whole octave of root notes. It would be nice if Binary's next app would adapt, i.e. see that I'm making no progress over many hours across many days, and then break the exercise into smaller chunks in response. Still, it's a very good product.
Amazing app! My only minor problem is the sound banks. Most of them just arent at the quality of the default grand piano. Their tone might be muffled on one note and resonant on the other, or it may be too quiet to hear, or it might hold over the first note on an excersize thats intended to be melodic. Other than this, the app is primarily perfect.
I love the rhythm training app made by the same dev, but this one is much harder! I've been stuck on easy mode chapter 2 for a long time and it's very frustrating. The difficulty ramps up very fast. I tried another ear training app that uses the Alain Benbassat method -- it has been much easier to learn and has helped me tremendously. Please developer, look into this ear training method. If you could implement something similar in your app, that would be perfect! Your apps are top quality.
Excellent app! Beautifully done, very intuitive to use, offers lots of drills, without unnecessary or distracting stuff. Customized training is also possible. Runs robustly, battery usage is low, particularly in dark mode. Ear training is difficult for novice musicians like myself, therefore the drills in the "Easy Mode" can be already challenging. But hey, music was never easy from the beginning.
Great game, really gets the gears turning and puts pressure on you, not just get your ears in tune, but also work on your theory and scales. Two complaints: Inversions should really be more advanced than the 6ths, 7ths, and aug/dim as inversions require you to hear three notes. Also, mod the next button so you don't have to swipe to the next question and risk messing up your answers. That's just one person's opinion. However, if you're wondering whether or not to get this game. Do it.
I have very high expectations for music and ear training apps because there is so much junk out there, but this app is truly a gem. Formost, it is extremely and reliably ACCURATE--NO misinformation whatsoever. Second, it looks, controls, and responds BEAUTIFULLY. Lessons are wonderfully paced--slow and steady. The scoring system is both fun and fair! And the scope of the exercises is unlike anything I've seen from a single app! For under $4 this app is a steal! Thank you so much for making this!
This app is just a LIFESAVER. The BEST out there to become a better musician. Before I started training with this app, I couldn't even identify if I was singing out of tune or not, my intonation was garbage etc. Now I am starting to be able to really "see" the music, to identify wrong notes while singing or listening and lots of more! And I am only halfway through the easy mode!! HUGE hugs for the developers, but please, add the reverse interval identification (from high to low). Peace ❤
As far as I'm concerned this is by far the best ear training app. Only thing I don't like is the structure of lessons on classic mode. Open chord inversions exercise is waaay to difficult compared to anything else in level 1. I've read other reviews and I can see alot of people complaining about that exercise too. I know you say the order was carefully crafted, but I think it's crafted theory wise not hearing difficulty wise. As far as technical performace it's flawless, 7/5 stars.
pretty good as a classical ear training app. would love to see more exercises that stay in the same key for beginners instead of just jumping around to random intervals everywhere. much more relevant to actually figuring out a song and a harmony part. very difficult, i kind of wish they hadn't locked out levels until you got the ones before. I'm pretty ok at melodic intervals but terrible at harmonic.
It seems strange to include perfect fourths and fifths before Major and minor thirds (in the classic section), considering how much easier it is to tell thirds apart. All things considered, this app has already been immensely helpful, and seems like it will genuinely help one to achieve a good musical ear, with enough practice.
Wish there was a way to disable auto-fill feature for naturals in the interval spelling. I use a touch pad and will get wrong answers because I didn't hit the accidental fast enough and the program though I meant a natural. Kind of frustrating when you had it right and it was question 32... Otherwise great program!!!
Well made from an app standpoint. From a musical standpoint starting with thirds and not constraining to key is silly. Professional programs like ear trainer will always use intervals within a key as it's far more relevant to most students and easier to differentiate them. I would love to see an introductory chapter as such, to help people quickly develop a more amateur ear, and the refine it.
From someone who's been studying music their whole life, I wanted to try this so i could mantain my knowledge and practise. However, everything except of level 1 is blocked by a paywall. I would recommend the app Functional Ear Trainer which i've been using for a few years and trains your hearing more than teaching theory. Some difficult exercises should be available for everyone to enjoy.
Conservatory trained musician here. Lots of content, but somewhat 'thrown together' without proper progression. Most progress comes from grinding exercises for 5 stars, not from evenly graded exercises that refine the ear over time. Maybe superior to similar apps if you like the options and interface, but the content itself is largely the same.
