Connect a USB MIDI keyboard to your phone (using the appropriate cable adapter) and this is app is perfect! I've been using it every day for a few weeks and I read noticably faster. It only costs the price of a few minutes of lessons to unlock all the content and features! It's also great to be able to improve my sight reading skills on the train while commuting to and from work.
So far i've loved, intuitive and easy to use and learn. I just wish they'd add sharing in the family group library Edit: the microfone option doesn't pick up on the black keys as much accurate as on the white keys. It would be perfect if they improved the sensitivity of the microfone, (A2, B2b, F3 and most of the 4th octave shows some irregularity in some chapters)
I gave a 5 even though I haven't fully explored all the features. Am struggling to learn to recognize the treble clef notes quickly. Have spent most of my time in Chapter 1. The exercises there alone are well worth the modest price. I am 76 yrs old so I recognize that my brain doesn't have the neuroplasticity of a 10 year old. I need all the tools I can muster to help me. Using this app helps a lot prior to picking up my ukulele to practice finger picking exercises. My advice: get it.
Very easy to use for a beginner. I recommend turning on the "show note for correct answer" option so you can make strong associations. After the first basic section, it's 3.99 as a one time purchase for the entire app. It's worth it. Try out the free part first! Note to dev: it would be helpful to have the picture of the note on the staff before clicking on the drills.
Really useful, along with a MIDI keyboard. It's really improving my poor sight reading one level at a time. I wish it could tell me the recommended finger position for each drill, since I have to figure them out myself, and I'm never sure to be using the right fingers... but still, this is an excellent app. And absolutely worth the 3.99 of the full version.
Excellent! After countless videos, books and apps. I finally found an app that works. The format is genius. I was grasping what I was learning within minutes. Its fun and feels like a challenging game. Being a gamer I think thats what did it. The challenge of trying to beat my previous score. It wasnt the same old just trying to memorize. Definitely getting the full version..thank you for this app.
At 52 years of age my spirations were not very high having picked up the violi for the first time, and for 11 years I've had to memorize my pieces to play them as I could not read music no matter what I tried. This method works for me unbelievably well therefore it's a biased best app ever from me. It trains the eye to read music fast or at your pace. God bless the designers. Cheers !!!
Awesome app that helps you learn to read music quickly. They also have an ear training and rhythm training. They let you do enough of the app for free to see if you truly like it. Very reasonably priced if you buy and not bombarded by ads if you don't.
Best game...errr...instructional way to learn reading music. I am, or was a novice up until two days ago when I installed this app. I can now read music, not fast, not perfect, but by the end of the week I'll be beating all my old arcade scores!
Just a fantastic app for learning to sight read. can connect to a MIDI keyboard or stand alone using only your device, so you can practice anywhere, any time. The developers are geniuses. This app works on my non-MIDI tablet using an OTG cable. How? MIDI apps like Flowkey don't even show up in Play. Others give an incompatible device error. What manner of coding wizardry allows this to work on my non-MIDI device perfectly?
i'm really enjoying the app, i also bought the premium version and i think it's nearly perfect. i really wish to add a definition section for every concept or notation, because it's not always clear.
It's a very good tool. I learned to read music as a kid, but never achieved the fluency I needed to spend more time with the actual music, rather than deciphering the sheet. Now I take part in a choir and this app has been a great help.
A wonderful tool. In former times, it must have been so much harder to learn note reading because people had no app that would generate thousands of random notes for them. It is often the favorite part of my practicing routine.
all of the complete music apps are amazing. I recommend students get the full versions and to do five to ten minutes every other day. The music reading app absolutely helps improve clef reading and key signature reading. highly recommended
Excellent progressive training. All the extras you might want like midi connection and a very generous free trial that lets me do everything I want to without needing the paid version. I've paid for the full version anyway because I've been using it for many hours so it feels fair to pay.
This makes learning super easy, I bought the full version after using it for a week. Don't forget to go back to previous lessons and review stuff, though.
I can't get through drill one from bass clef 2 because the app won't recognise the F2 note on my keyboard through the microphone. Edit: A helpful reviewer said that disabling 'octave check' fixes the issue, and indeed the app now recognises my F2 note. Clearly this is just a small bug.
fast way to learn and practice reading pitch. I love it even more now that I realised if you turn your device, it replaces the weird circular note input with a keyboard style input which is more intuitive. Good job. Worth every penny.
This is an incredible value. I love that you can just plug your midi keyboard in and play away. Really helpful and progressive short exercises to build up your sight reading skills.
One of the only apps that has Bluetooth MIDI support for Android. Now all it needs is ability to import sheet music and play along. There'd literally be no need for other apps!
Changed my phone and the app still doesn't recognise a low A. I thought it'd be my piano but I checked with a tuner. Furthermore, without the octave check the app does recognise the A. This is incredibly weird and can't be due to my phone since it's brand new... I'd be happy to have this problem sorted in the future if at all possible.
My first time buying a phone app! I need practice learning bass clef notes so I tried different apps and enjoyed this one the most. Makes it fun to practice reading notes. Affordable too.
Not enough range on the keyboard makes it a poor gauge for accuracy. It won't help with actual motion. Nice try, but could improve. I would rather have kept my money.
Wow this is an awesome learning source for serious musicians and casual players! The content is very great, but I really wish there had been a bundle deal for all three trainers you all have made as now i will have to buy both of the others seperately! Sheesh, lol... Oh well for the quality and thought put into this im defintely getting the others! Thanks BGS!
Excellent app for drilling note reading. Paid version worth it.. I created my first custom drill today for bass clef lower ledger lines. I'm finally getting them! Only problem I have is using it on phone with limited keyboard. Works great with actual piano.
Great app to learn and practice sight reading! The fact that it's a game with levels and high scores is a great idea. The difficulty increases in a natural way so you don't feel overwhelmed in a new level. I love the USB MIDI feature! I can plug my phone or tablet to my digital piano and I can play directly on there instead of using my phone screen. I reached out to the developer at some point and they were very helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend this app. Worth every penny!
