Complex Timer

Create custom countdown patterns exactly the way you like.

After trying several apps and failing to find one that suited all my needs, I decided to write Complex Timer.
Initially developed for sport climbing training: intermittend dead-hangs, fingerboard, or strength-endurance methods, it is very useful if you perform sport training methods like HIIT (high intensity interval training), cross fit, cross training, running, tabata, etc.., Also to control your pauses at work, while studying or rehearsing an exam and for cooking.

Features:
- Backup and restore your sessions
- Copy a session to use it as a template for a new one
- Group countdowns that repeat several times
- Nest a group inside another one to create complex patterns
- Move countdowns or whole groups up/down or even inside/outside groups
- Copy countdowns or groups to save time
- Goup and countdown descriptions are customizable
- Set the type of alarm that will be played before a countdown starts, so that you know if a pause or a work segment comes next
- Set an alarm to warn you before the time is up
- Choose among 9 different colors for each countdown
- Skip any particular repetition(s)
- Choose whether the session will pause when a countdown ends
- Skip backward/forward while running a session
- Keep the screen on while running a session
- See the complete session in list form to have a visual reference of what it's going to look like, and use it to skip to any particular countdown
- Run, pause and reset the session from the lockscreen notification
- Receive an alarm that indicates the whole session has ended
- Maximize the counter for better readability and use basic control gestures
- Custom notifications: choose your own sounds from your device's storage, or mute any of them
- Custom relative volume: when listening to music while using the app, you can lower the notifications volume relative to the music volume
- The total work time for each Session is displayed in the main screen
- Option to vibrate instead of/in addition to playing a sound. Good for very noisy or very quiet environments
- Add random variation to any Countdown inside the limits you establish.
- Navigate to any desired Countdown using a Seek Bar.
- Skip back/forward to any moment in the current Countdown, even while running, using a Seek Bar
- Mute the nofications while running a Session
- Use text-to-speech to know how much time is left or hear the next Countdown description in your own language (contact me if you want your language to be supported)
- Share one or more Sessions with other users via email, instant messaging, etc.

Permissions: it needs Storage permission if you want to backup and restore your sessions.

Clean, simple, configurable, free and without ads, the play store needs more apps like this. Many neat little features including sounds. Two features that I think could be added: text to speech notifications on a case-by-case basis (while keeping the other notification sounds), and text to speech counting for reps (audible one, two, three, etc.).

Simple, clean interface that lets you add any workout that you want. And no ads! I wish it could sync to external devices. I think that I might have found a bug. After I've added several workouts and clicked on one to start, it showed a different input from my other workouts. This happened several times. It went back to normal after I've clicked on the home/house button to take me back to the home screen. Hence my rating is 4 stars. If the bug is fixed I'd change to 5 stars.

I was looking for an app that would allow me to set up a custom pomodoro type work timer. This app allowed me to do so easily and the extra features and customizations are pretty useful. It's also not too complicated to use if you're willing to put in a little time setting everything up. One minor annoyance is that if you have this app open in split screen with another app (or in another window with Samsung Dex), the timer will appear to freeze if you do something on the other app. The timer doesn't actually freeze, but you need to tap on the timer app again for the displayed time to start updating.

I don't leave a ton of reviews, but this app is exactly what I was looking for. It is, well, complex, but all the the customization is exactly what I wanted and every feature seems helpful to me. I don't see any ads, premium version, or a tip jar, which is incredibly generous for such a good app. I use it for productivity, but unlike a standard pomodoro timer, all the customization allows for exactly the right variability to keep me engaged over a rigid pomo timer. My hat's off to the dev.

brilliant app, so versatile and useful, and easy to use too, once you get the hang of it. i had one minor suggestion -- that the notification displayed when the phone is locked after sensing gesture be a full one, showing current activity progress as well as total routine progress. but this is only superfluous, the app is brilliant even without it. thanks!

This is the best interval timer for my needs (paid or free). This timer is as SIMPLE (or complex) as you need it to be. It's very easy to create basic interval patterns. I found the copy and move up/down features helpful for creating workouts fast. All features are manageable form the mobile app, but for more complex sessions it would be nice to have a companion web or desktop app I could use to create/modify sessions from a laptop.

superb. this is all I need for my workouts sessions. I've already try another 14 aps and this is the best. simple. fully configurable. and free with no string attached. thank you very much. really. One thing: if you setup a custom storage sound... every time I open the app the sounds needs to re-set or the app remains silent. the external sound is now fixed!!! thanksss!

Very flexible timer can pretty much do everything I want it to do. One suggestion, when skipping repetitions allow an option for first and last as well. I like to adjust rounds for certain timers and if I skipped the last round I have to reset where it is skipping. Can get cumbersome of some of my really complex setups. Simple example, I have a timer for 2 rounds (loop), work 1 min, rest 1 min. I set it to skip 2nd rest. Next time I make the timer 3 rounds, it will stay set to skip rest on round 2, would be nice to do last so it it skips the last rest no matter how many rounds I change it to.

i just downloaded this after trying so many different timer apps and its the best. I'm so glad i finally found it, it's both the most simple to set up and the most versatile. my only complaint is that the alarm sounds are weird and annoying, it has the option for custom audio from you phone but it's doesn't play the audio files properly. if this app got better sounds i would happily be a paying user cheers guys ❤️

Exactly what I was looking for. This app allows me to setup stationary bike sessions that are easy to edit. It is really good for HITT sessions where you need to repeat the same sequence a number of times then take a short break then start over multiple times. Once you learn how to use it setting up a session is really easy. just add timers and set counter. Move them around using the arrows and promote them by moving a timer by moving it into set.

I use this for intervals during my training runs. It's easy to use. No unnecessary frills or ads. Thank you for making a great app!! ** the only thing I am confused on is how to add my own sounds. I know where to go in the settings, but am unsure of what to select in the menu offered. Do I need to have a specific file downloaded and saved in order to add my own sound?

Nice and clean. No ads, no costs. Thumbs up. Use it every day. Only one small drawback: Since last update music player does'nt lower its volume (although it is set to). Hi, yes, the music player doesn't lower its volume, making it often hard to recognise the voice and sounds of ComplexTimer. Can I provide you any information?

I use Complex Timer for a few weeks now, and I really love it! It’s so nice to get guided with a Text-to-Speech timer while doing my morning routine. It feels like I’ve got a Virtual Personal Assistant giving me a guided practice!!! :-) The app is small. The app is free and free of adds. The app works well (on my phone). The developer responds to e-mails with questions and ideas, and is really helpful. Although it's called Complex Timer, I find it SIMPLE to use :-). See the long list of features and the screenshot for all the other great things (like backup & restore, being able to share routines with friends and import their routines, ...) Wow! ...I've got some wishes that would make the app even better. So I give a 4 star rating. My wish list: * Playback improvement requests: - Don’t stop, continue playback when navigating to beginning of step, previous step or next step. - Improved UI of lock screen control: > Add previous & next buttons on lock screen control. > Time-slider-bar in enlarged view on lock-screen / in pull-down-menu. > Show more characters of step description (so it can also display longer descriptions). > Show next step in enlarged view (if it fits). - Start playback of a certain step from list-view, so I can easily navigate to a certain step further in the list and instantly start playing it. * Session edit improvement requests: - Enable/Disable steps + Show total time of session in edit session screen. So I can quickly create a shorter version if I don't have time to do my full morning practice. - Sound schemes, session specific sounds (and step specific sounds). - Show total time of selected items, so I can quickly see how long a certain selection of steps take. - Be able to move a multi-selection. - Multi-line session description. > Display of multi-line session description in: Session edit, session overview, session playback screens. * More ideas: - Spotify integration. - Reusable building blocks, with ‘hooks’ and variation. - Web editor, so I can use my laptop to edit more complex or longer sessions. Even though my wish list might look long... ...it's just because I'm wishing for everything, tiny details and features that no other timer app offers. ;-) ...compared to what I've seen out there so far; I really really recommend this app!!! :-D

Really great! But for only one type of activity. I'm flabbergasted that we can only set global sound/notification settings. I don't know anyone who would use the same sound settings for library study sessions as they would a noisy gym workout routine! So surprised that we can't set sounds at the routine building level.

Awesome simple app. I use this for a couch to 5k program. I had to add them all manually, but exactly what I was looking for. I use GPS and HR from another app, so just the timers is what I needed. If there was one thing I'd like is to add another warning timer. You only get 1 and I use that for around half way marks in my runs, but for longer runs, being able to add more say every quarter would be cool.

There is SO MUCH that I love about this! Sadly, importantly, it does not accurately keep time which is important in a timer. EDIT: I figured it out. The timer resets when orientation changes while it's running. That should be an easy fix. I'd be happy to take a look at it for you because I'd love to see this app be the perfect app it almost is ASAP. Thx

video tutorial doesnt match the screens in use. no small drop down icon to set eg cool down, prepare so all I get is Warning Empty Set. it takes a lot of trial and error to work out how to use it. but eventually you find it works well. with good instructions it would be worth more stars.

This is a great app when you want freedom to create your own workout session. Unfortunately, it does not work saving or restoring sessions on my Android 10 phone (but it works on my Android 8 phone (with cracked screen)). Hopefully fixed in the next release. If it is I would give it 5 stars. Updated: Now restoring sessions is fixed. Thanks:) 5 stars as promised!

Woooo! This is powerful! Masterful and a prudent design. There is no excess of usage. Only perfect utility that an interval timer would need! It is insane that you can set the percentage continuum of the sets (mostly reluctant, but well thought!). Perfect app. For users who need more utilisation.

Bri. v. d. B. Jul 5, 2021

Useful and reasonable permissions It would be better if it could override the device's screen time out, though. I have a hard time remembering what I am to do with my next interval and if the screen stayed on throughout a session, this would be easier.

Jin. W. Nov 11, 2020

Finally, i rigured out how to set it up. After i clicked the quick start button ajd it was running, I went on with my work. It never made any sounds despite the fact thwt I set sounds for every situation (end of woek, beginning of break, etc.)! So it's completely useless!

The functionality is great, the ux of the editing interface could be a bit better. But the reason I'm writing is: where is the text-to-speech option? Can't find it anymore after switching phones.

Fantastic app! After a few minutes working out how to nest timers it was easy to use. The display is easy to read during a session, even without glasses. Easily the most customisable interval timer I have ever used.

Nat. K. May 20, 2020

By far the greatest workout timer out there! This app is super flexible and rich on features it's amazing! It has a bit of a clunky feel but definitely super easy and intuitive to use. The backup idea is genius! Thanks for an amazing app!

J. L. Mar 28, 2021

Creating and running sessions (routines) is easy. My only gripe is a session's list screen. Descriptions, when available, are used instead of exercise titles in the list and whichever is used gets cut off, sometimes to just one character.

R. R. Jan 15, 2021

This app is perfect for what I'm looking for, namely more flexibility over each session. Also I love that you can give a detailed description for each sub timer, it's very important as I don't have to memorize every detail of what I want to do, which is not even possible.

Nik. V. May 26, 2020

I've compared this app with "Tabata Timer". Definitely my choice is "Complex Timer", cause it's easier to use, has no advertising, and it can use custom user sound files as alarm bell!

ABH. G. Mar 30, 2019

Excellent App. While changing default sound app has two options "Sound when a work starts" and "Sound when a short work starts". I am not able to figure out the difference between two options. Can you please explain this.
