Contact Editor Free

This is the contact editor (and only the editor) from the Android 2.1 sources.I just fixed it to make it work with arbitrary contact sources (like CardDAV-Sync) and removed the dependencies on the internal API to make it work with Android 2.2 and later. So all credits go to Google.
This editor is a replacement/alternative for your native editor and it's invoked in the same way. It will be started whenever you try to edit or create a contact (and you select "Contact Editor Free").

If you can edit all your contacts you may not have any benefits from this app. It is useful if you use some custom Sync-Adapter that does not feature its own editor (like CardDav-Sync) and your editor can not edit those contacts. However some people reported it is useful if your phone's manufacturer removed the ability to edit custom labels.

Also, have a look at "Contact Editor Pro" an improved version of this editor. ( https://market.android.com/details?id=org.dmfs.android.contacteditorpp )

This app can not edit or remove contacts from read-only sources like Facebook or Cloudtact! This is due to the definition of read-only!Also, if you see a blank screen when editing contacts that are aggregated with a Facebook contact, try to remove and recreate your Facebook account. Facebook limits access from other apps which breaks the contacts API in a way. For further information see http://techcrunch.com/2011/02/22/google-android-facebook-contacts/

Note regarding Events:There is a big problem with events in this editor (better: with Android). The Android SDK documentation states about the database column for the date: 'The event start date as the user entered it.' Unfortunately does every manufacturer have it's own opinion about the format. Some are happy with 'yyyy-mm-dd', my phone uses unix timestamps. So if your phone doesn't accept the 'yyyy-mm-dd' format try entering a unix-timestamp ;-). Seriously, I think about removing this feature until I've found a proper solution. You can help by sending me mails with your phone model, os version and which formats work or don't work for you.

Btw: just writing a comment like "Doesn't work on..." won't help neither you nor me to get it running on your device. Please contact me if you have problems.

Please report bugs by sending me a mail stating what happened and what you did before it happened. Often the Market bug reports are not very helpful without additional informations.

known issues:

* on some devices this app hangs when it is opened. If this happens to you, please send me an email!
* crashes in some very rare cases. I've no further information about those cases and I'm not able to reproduce them. Please send me an email with your phone model, your OS version and what kind of sync-adapters you have installed. Thanks!

Android current native contacts editor lacks several fields and options that were available on older versions, like multiple addresses and notes for a single contact. This app allows access to those lost functions. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated, so it cannot edit new fields (relationships, for example, are simply not shown, but they are not lost when using this app, opening the same contact, later, will show the new fields untouched).

A definite solution to editing Outlook contacts which only allow one way syncing. I thought it was its own contacts app, but it simply allows editing for the stock android contacts app. It stays out of the way when you don't need it, and it has no ads or bs. Perfect for anyone fed up with uneditable contacts.

Yeah, for adding birthdays in the respective contacts it helped me but for viewing the birthdays I have to select 'edit' and then only I could see the respective b'day. Plus, I could not add reminder notifying the b'day. Good effort for adding 'b'day' field in the Android's contacts since it is not having it, but, it really didn't help me. Hope that these issues might be fixed in the next update.

An unassuming and modest app who silently does its job to perfection. It helped me get past the big limitation of not being able to create or edit contacts in accounts othar than Google. Sure the look and feel can be improved, but no complains! Like I said, does its job perfectly. Made my life a lot easier.

When syncing from google contacts, phone still showed duplicate numbers pre installed in android. This was really annoying me as I have contacts with several different mobile numbers and I can't see/remember their numbers. Once I installed this app I could delete the number only duplicates so now I see (with bad eyes) just the network/nickname - SUCCESS! Maybe only me that found this annoying, but it certainly helped me a lot. Thanks!

I had previously left a review that changes made in Android were not saved to the server (Radicale). This turned out to be incorrect; changes were saved but, due apparently to an incorrect format of the underlying data, were not able to thereafter be read by KDE Kontact. I resolved the issue by re-exporting the original Palm data using Palm Desktop (previously I had used JPilot) and everything is now working great. Marten has been very friendly and helpful during the process.

I was going to return my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8 (Marshmallow) and cancel the order for another one for my wife because of the limitation Samsung have imposed on the size of the notes field in Contacts. I made a change on the S2 to a long contact note I had accumulated over years (and needed to keep) and most of the note was deleted (!!) on my PC and Motorola E 2nd generation phone (which can handle long notes) because of Samsung's ridiculous limit (fortunately I noticed in time and was able to recover the information via Google). This app has solved the problem - I can view and edit long notes, save and sync them - in edit mode (having made Contact Editor Free the default app for editing contacts). Samsung need to have this app installed before they ship their tablets and phones - Samsung Contacts is a liability without it. They certainly owe Marten Gajda thanks for two sales.

First, I want to say this is a great app that fixes a Google Android "size of the Notes field" problem that has existed for 5 years. Second... please consider addressing user's concerns over your app having access to our contacts. I know, how else are you going to do the job... but maybe there is something you can say to reassure users that there is no way for you to communicate the information back to your server or something you may code in the future to minimize the potential misuse of your application to gain access to contacts.

I maked security bypass at connection to exchange. From this moment it makes impossible to edit a contacts. This product is a solution for that problem.

This application Solved a major bug/problem that has plagued Samsung Galaxy Android OS since it's inception: It prevents notes from being truncated. We can now sync contacts from MS Outlook with large note fields and see and edit them. Something Samsung told us was not possible due to Android limitations. This designer deserves a handsome reward from Samsung.

I usually never write reviews but I was just way too happy with this app not to. I have the samsung s6 and wasn't able to edit contacts with emojis but this did the trick! I tried other apps before this one that either didn't work or were too difficult to use... this one worked fantastic. Literally all you have to do is install then go to your contacts and start editing! It's so simple and I'm extremely happy with the results!

Other than that the app works great alright i guess, but its a kind of glaring problem and I can't figure out how to make it work.

After MUCH searching, this is the only app I've found that fixes the Samsung 1,000 character contact note limitation, and it's easy! Just install, edit a contact, and choose it as the default! I have contacts with 3,000 character notes! Syncs great with Google contacts! This is a must have for anyone with a Samsung phone who makes extensive use of the contact notes field!

Works flawlessly. Used free version for 2 years until paying for pro version. caldav and carddav-sync pro apps by the same developer are also excellent. Thank you

It's shameful that the Outlook contact sync is broken on Motorola androids. Thanks for fixing it.

In samsung's contact app, you can't see long notes that you may have made on another phone. If you try to edit such a note on Samsung, it may delete part of the note! Yikes! With this app, when you hit the edit button, it lets you see and edit long notes. Hats off to the developer!

I had the Notes limit for many of my contacts and this app showed them all. I now think I will get the premium version as the editor itself is better also! Nice one.

You get one page of legalese with no apparent way to actually open the program and use it. gave up trying.

Joh. E. Aug 23, 2013

Great. It enables me to add contacts to my phone despite my broken motorola contacts manager. Contacts+ did not.

Hus. K. Sep 28, 2014

Can't believe Microsoft don't just pay the developer for this. Added a contact, synced, checked outlook it was there. Was able to delete and edit contacts the native android did not allow.

Mar. B. Jul 5, 2017

Some of my contacts have very long extensive notes. This little editor allows me to edit these notes. Newer versions of the native editor truncate the notes field and it cannot be edited. Nice app!

Using Wiui defy rom, this app fixed my contacts custom fields which was not implemented by rom devs...

The only reason I installed this app because to edit my outlook contacts in Android phones especially S6. It is doing the job perfectly and sync is also good.
