Conway's Game of Life

Watch digital life evolve into beautiful and interesting sequences. Conway's Game of Life follows simple rules, but can result in unexpectedly complex patterns. The standard format involves an infinite grid of square 'cells', with some squares initially 'alive' and the rest 'dead'. At each step and for each cell one of four things can happen, based on the number of neighbour cells that are alive at the time:
- A dead cell remains dead (default)
- Life spawns in a dead cell, when dead cell has 3 live neighbours
- A live cell survives, when the live cell has 2 or 3 live neighbours
- A live cell dies (default)You can also set up custom rules.Simply touch a cell to toggle its state between dead and alive. You can also drag to apply this same state to a large number of cells. Manually changing the state of a cell pauses time for a while, so that you can make all of the changes you want before the cells are automatically updated.Once you've found an interesting configuration, you can save it for later to show to your friends.

Additional Information

This app was developed using Corona SDK.You can pinch to zoom out, stretch to zoom in or drag two fingers to pan the screen. You can save configurations locally to your device. Some well-known, interesting configurations are provided with the app.

There is no way to clear it! (Not that I know) And its interface is way to boring! Add some more customization Such as custom colors from a color wheel, custom background, 3d version, replace the blocks with custom images, and have a title screen that looks presenting! It's so bland and obviously outdated! At least add some sort of background, art, and ect to the title screen... Just like Tejinder Singh here I deleted it in 1 minute

It looks good, and with a handful of customization options to make Life even more fun to look at, it's only mitigated by the fact that you will have to change the settings to the way you want them whenever you start. Furthermore, whenever I try to zoom in or out, I just end up creating more live tiles or killing off already live ones while I zoom

This game is great at theory and super fun to make formations but: - zooming out causes you to create blocks - zooming out causes the screen to try to render ALL of the on-screen empty blocks. This causes the phone to become really slow. Maybe have a look at optimising zoomed out rendering and implement dedicated zooming. The bugs above gives for an overall buggy experience.

Seems to be abandonware by this point. It's a decent implementation with a few glaring flaws. One is that the settings get reset automatically any time you exit the game or just load one of the preset shapes. Another is a lack of a step by step mode, where you can manually go generation by generation. Hope it gets picked back up by developer for such fixes.

Please consider the option for life to wrap instead of stopping at the edge. This adds another level of fun. I wrote a version in 6502 assembly on the Atari 8 bit back in the 1980s. Been interested since it was a paper based exercise. Landscape mode for larger screens would also be welcomed.

Great job. Conway,s game has been used for describing mechanisms by which life has been emerged in earth about 4.5 bilion years ago.

The customization options are very nice. I really appreciate the access to templates of structures like the Glider. I would like to recommend the option of a turn counter, and a button to advance the game forward one turn at a time, manually. I also support the idea of looping the boundary. So far great work. John would be proud!

Easy to use Game of Life board that can be zoomed in and out. Professional look with many options, including changing the rules (very nice), predefined shapes and saving patterns.

Love this implementation. Wish there were more docs tho. Resetting the grid twice changes the grid to while and produces different results than the black grid. What is the difference?

exactly what i needed! zoom controls are a little tricky, but otherwise it's as good as life itself

When i zoom out, some rows from the bottom disappear.

Perfect visualisation of a classic game. The only function I miss is scrolling. Life spreads indefinitely beyond the visible bounds. How can I move the window across the universe?

More speed in a larger field would make this much better. The selection of cells from the screen is good

Friend told me about this and it's awesome. Great user interface as well.

I like the userinterface, although the algorithm seems to be very much unoptimized? Lags ALOT after zooming out.

I really think it's a great concept, and I was thinking about maybe having a feature were can modify the number and pattern behavior, and maybe have different colors of cells with an option to have them react differently depending on there color and/or proximity, I mean that's my opinion, but could you please let me know if you might want to add that option to this amazing opportunity of an app and maybe add the option to donate? 😀😉 Because I really appreciate your time and effort you put into being a great and amazing developer and I really like your ideas and work and thank you for all the great apps and games that you make, and I truly believe that you have a great future as an amazing Developer. 😉 Don't give up and maybe one day you'll be the biggest and best Developer there is and I will always believe in you. 😇
