Crossword Cryptic

Great game, I've really been enjoying it. If there is anything that I can criticise, and recommend for update, it would be the annoying way that a completed word can be overwritten while you are filling out the rest of the puzzle. It becomes frustrating when you are working through and end up overwriting correct letters. If you can make a setting that allows correct words to be 'locked in', similar to the way that the Lovatts Crosswords online does it, the app would be perfect in my opinion.

I have definitely improved in my solving of cryptic crosswords due to this app. I used to find them fairly hard, but do-able. Now I find them pretty easy but still a bit of a challenge. I'm ready now for something harder. However, that could be a description of a crossword book. The app itself is wonderful. No ads, never crashes, always there waiting for me wherever I left off. Easy to use, intuitive and with answers when you really need them. Marvellous!

Played through the freebies after reading a webpage on the basics of how clues worked but still stumped by the broadsheet newspapers. Enjoyed it so much I bought the full version. I don't usually buy mobile apps but this has been well worth the money. Stumped occasionally, but never for too long, and I've always got a few on the go to switch between if I am. When I'm done I'll look at the Guardian again.

Great game, well worth the Money. I love that I can play without data draining intrusive adverts. I'm using it to learn cryptic crosswords, and the progression is steady but evident. Excellently written, and there are minimal general knowledge tabloid answers (celebs/films/songs) which is great. Only possible improvement would be to add more crossword authors to the team to get a mix of styles. All in all, love it. Update - completed all puzzles 2021. Great app.

Even easier than the free puzzles. Far too many anagrams and "within" type clues. Some puzzles have almost no other kind. I doubt this would be very useful for beginners either - comparing solutions with their clues is the best way to learn, but few of these demonstrate more than how to spot an anagram indicator. I was so bored, I had to uninstall even though I hate to give up on something I've paid for. Not worth any money at all (unless you really love anagrams). Great UI, though.

Some clues are in my range, maybe a bit difficult but can be worked out with a little time. Some are harder but have a really good clue, and I have learned something for the next time I encounter one like it. There are a few that I don't think I would have ever solved (for example, because the answer is a British turn of phrase). All said, this is a great bargain. I used to pay this price for one magazine with only one or two Cryptics. It's great to have so many here in my phone.

Nice app with some relatively easy beginner-level puzzles. As someone who is just learning cryptic crosswords, this is perfect for learning the different rules and recurring patterns. However, an experienced cryptic crossword solver will probably find these to be a bit too easy.

Great app. Although the clues are very much in the british style, very few require you to be british to get. Ability to reveal one letter at a time, or to get an explanation are great helps. As you work through the clues get more difficult (fewer container clues for example) they never get imposslble. Just wish there were more puzzles.

I love this. Iv never understood cryptic crosswords, but most of these are just the right level of cryptic. There are many that, although I somehow find the answer, make no sense no matter how much I stare at it so it would be good once the answer is found, to have the option to see an explanation of the answer.

I'm very much a cryptic novice, this is a perfect app for my level. I guess there are harder, more challenging crosswords out there, but I'm not ready for them yet, so I had no problems in purchasing the full version of this app.

Great level of difficulty. Harder than a traditional quick crossword but not as tricky as some of the cryptic crosswords (eg NYT/Guardian) EDIT: still good fun but as others have said, a majority of the clues are anagrams which makes it too easy sometimes. Also finding reused clues from earlier puzzles which is just lazy!

Real English clues not American cultural ones. Tutorial is really eye-opening and helpful and clues themselves are set at the right level as they do make you think but aren't impossible to do once you begin to grasp the technique. Super!

These British-style crosswords are easier than the ones I'm used to seeing in publications like The Atlantic, but that's a good thing. A great place for a beginner to practice solving cryptics, or for any puzzler to relax with many, many puzzles that go quickly.

This is the best cryptic crossword app I've found. Highly customizable to suit your style. Lots of puzzles. Most of all, I really love the witty clues!

Realistic clues without having to be a mastermind to get answers. Keeps brain active! Cryptic crossword puzzles are harder to come by. I have definitely had my money's worth. I have on two devices and so have started from begining again on one of them.

Very fun to pick up for spare moment in my day. Later puzzles include explanation of the answer under 'Reveal'. I picked this up to learn cryptics. I find it pairs really well with Cryptic Crossword Tutor which helps me on indicators (e.g. what could 'general' indicate?) And word fit (e.g. what's a word that includes 'a.r.a.'?).

Great for learning how to do cryptic crosswords. Just the right level of difficulty. Being able to check your answers is very helpful, but I save this for when I'm REALLY stuck.

Really great Crossword app. Offline functionality is super for long trips. My only gripe is that it looks straight from 2012. Functionally it works great. Could do with a UI update.

Huge collection of puzzles with lots of tips for beginners getting into the cryptic mindset, definitely an easier starting point than the puzzles in newspapers. Very satisfying to complete. I'm hooked!

Each puzzle has clues with a range of difficulties so you wouldn't be too dissuaded when working on it yet feel that it is too simple. A worthy investment for challenging the brain while waiting or on the move.

It's good. The free version has lots to try with no ads and then one off purchase for the rest. A few settings could be tweaked but I've found it good.

Simple, easy user interface, good crosswords. They get a bit easy with practice -- harder levels and a timer would make it more fun.

It does what you'd want a cryptic crossword app to do... Lots of good quality puzzles, the right difficulty for a beginner, getting more difficult as you progress.

I really enjoyed this app. My level of complexity. I liked that you can get clues when you're stuck. If you're an expert in cryptic crosswords, these might be to easy.

I enjoy solving these puzzles. Not too easy and not too hard. Clues become predictable after a bit.

Great app. Crosswords are reasonably simple, but enjoyable. Interface isn't pretty, but is functional. Only gripe is that some of the puzzles are repeats from Teazel's other apps.

Great fun. Easy to use and good for the brain. Only addition I'd like to see is a reveal on the wordplay - sometimes you can't see how an answer was derived and it would be awesome to know as this helps you get better.
