I subscribed to this service in hopes of not having to rely on what I would call "third party streaming sites" for their excessive ads and other evident reasons.. but unfortunately they still seem to perform better on many grounds.. in terms of buffer less higher quality. ( I had the player lag on me on 480p. I mean come on!) And releases are wayy behind schedule which is quite infuriating. It's not bad but for a paid service it could do a lot better

Completely unusable for families, lacking crucial features such as profiles, content filters for age ranges, which are present on competing services. Also some major content is missing, such as Sunrise series (Escaflowne,Trigun) or even Production IG (Gankutsuou, Last Exile). Localized versions of series are split from japanese versions, which makes no sense at all. UI components do not scale properly on Android TVs. Sadly I will not consider subscribing for now.

The worst app I've ever used. Subtitles and dubs are a hot mess. At the end of a season, the app will replay the same season in another language, then force you to scroll through to find the next season in your preferred language. WHY. It's absolutely illogical. When casting to our TV the volume is so low I have to max out the volume on my phone, the TV, and the sound system and I STILL can barely hear. No subtitles for English dubs on most shows.

Its great if you like anime and finding new things to watch but there are a few glitches and you cant skip ads... You also need a pass to watch some episodes but its worth it! But one of the bugs is that when a series is dubed it either automatically dubs it for you or it doesn't and theres no way to change it on your own at all!

I love this app and all the content that it offers, especially after acquiring funimation. However, it only works well on mobile and pc. There are problems when I use it on every other platform, and it's missing features like a next episode button on almost every platform. The one with the most notable issues is Nintendo switch, where the subtitles don't show up at the right time if you pause the episode at all. It's an amazing app, but it needs some work on some other platforms.

The app is fine. Sure, it has a lot of heart, but it is also historically rather buggy, crashing on occasion and rarely working with cast. Especially, they refuse to implement any actually rational or comprehensible method for organizing subbed and dubbed shows, instead listing every individual version as a separate season, making navigation an absolute nightmare for shows with long names, many seasons, many dubs, or more than one of those. I would recommend it, but it could be much better.

I think everything about the app is great EXCEPT the most important thing: streaming and downloading is always much slower than it is in other apps. I have fast internet speed (125MB/s) and never have problems watching Netflix, or Amazon prime video, or any other video streaming App, but this is Crunchyroll's biggest problem and is often very frustrating. I hope they're working on it :)

Ive been premium subscribed for over two years I believe. I have emailed about issues with downloaded episodes twice. First time I was replied with, if I didn't have a screenshot there was nothing they could do, which I'm not sure why that was their only way of looking into it. No reply to the second email. Customer support isn't so supporting. My downloads sometimes won't download subs. Half the time they don't play unless all data is off. Won't play period sometimes... please fix or I'm out!!

I like most everything about it. stream comes through clear and little buffering. but the organization needs some work it should not jump from season 1 of something in one language to the same season but in a different language. and when you finish the last episode it just wants to replay it or put that same episode on the next to watch list. little changes but a choice of language preference would be awesome.

Cal. L. Apr 10, 2022

The potential is definitely there. The user interface in smooth and comfortable to navigate, however this is all for naught as it is far to unreliable. It crashes constantly and plays an ad every time it crashes (of course the ad works fine) before returning to the episode you want to watch and then crashing again a few seconds later. I was hype for the app when I saw it, first opened it and when I started perusing through it. but in the end, it just didn't deliver unfortunately.

I really like the app and it's library of shows, the layout of the app is also really good. The only thing that I don't like is how the different languages and seasons are handled. Rather than building the languages into the player like almost every other streaming service, they separate languages into different seasons and it can be very cluttered and disorganized for a lot of shows. If they can clean up the languages, I'd rate it 5/5.

Crunchyroll's content and digital management are great. video playback for the most part is pretty flawless but there is a constant error message regarding connectivity issues that appears as a red banner at the bottom of the screen. the only way to make it go away is to switch from portrait to landscape mode or vice-versa - and it does this over and over again despite there being no connection interruptions. other than that, just a meh app design. still better than Funimation.

Holy smokes, what a mess! The subtitles are a second or two behind but always end on time, giving a frustratingly short time to read them, if at all, and a disconnect long after the characters start talking. That's the biggest issue is the lag but the app is slow and glitchy. Often when I back out of a show the audio keeps playing. You can even begin a different title and both audios of that show and the one before it will play simultaneously. The only way to stop it is to close the app.

great collection but some notable exceptions. my biggest gripe is the lack of organisation is the seasons. Sometimes the first season is labelled S2 or dubs are different seasons and it makes it extremely difficult to know how many individual shows in one language there is. Many good things too, the viewer is much much better than other anime apps and to me that counts for a lot. another improvement could be an option to skip intros if suitable like Netflix.

Sit. Apr 11, 2022

Improving but still so far behind from other steaming services. No skip intro feature, casting from my phone is hit or miss 50% of the time, and skipping forward is not smooth. Recently bought an android TV and had to re-log in multiple times. What you watch on the phone app doesn't always sync up with the TV app. Hope they can fix these issues soon. Content is amazing as usual, also adding new shows. Prices are reasonable for $8 a month.

Crunchyroll has a great selection but it's strange that for some shows the first season is not available. It's also odd that some shows only have an option for subtitles/dubs in certain languages. I see some that look really good but the only option is dubbed/subtitled in Portuguese (just as an example). Well, guess we can't have everything we want. Another thing, the "family" plan is really just watching different shows at the same time, on the same account. Can we get sub-accounts please!!!

saa. h. Apr 7, 2022

not the greatest in terms of being user friendly, but has great content! it would be nice to be able to delete individual episodes after youve seen them instead of the whole series at once to clear up space on your phone. it would also be nice to be able to start an episode already in full screen mode. Would be better to be able to filter subbed vs dubbed instead of scrolling through season. Double tap to jump forward/backwards would be good too.

Deb. W. Apr 21, 2022

The sub/dub menu and frame rate is garbage. Don't count on the dubbed label because it is lying 90% of the time and makes it really hard to search for something. I get that the frames will drop for continuous play but with a 2 Giga bit connection with nobody else in the house should not have this issue which is poor optimization. If those two things are not a problem for you the app runs smoothly otherwise.

The service would be alright if all the app features worked, and I might think better of their company if they were really in it for the art. It's not good policy to ask me for a rating when I haven't gotten a resolution to my support ticket. Long story short, the app (and company behind it) cost me $40 in mobile data because the setting to sync offline videos over WiFi only seems just for show. A box set is cheaper for what I wanted to watch and gives me more rights. So thanks again 🤬

This app has some issues that have remained ever since I re-subscribed to premium (January). My main issue is that one can't watch the episode as a download unless you are literally without internet, otherwise the app will automatically use wifi or data despite being less efficient (and consuming all of my data). Meaning that if I want to watch the anime I downloaded, I have to turn off every internet connection or it will otherwise not work.

The Google Pixel 3 XL has been out for a very long time now. And since it has a big screen, i use the Display Size option built into Android to display more things on it's big screen by putting it to Small. This however, as many has stated before, makes it so that i cannot enter fullscreen mode while watching an animé. It works great in the webbrowser, but i would prefer to use the app. After every update i look to see if it's fixed but it still isn't... It's a shame...

Jus. B. Apr 18, 2022

I did the trial and never made it to the end because it allow me to download series but it wouldn't play them offline. Furthermore, I watched the first season of One-Punch Man and was disappointed they didn't have the second season by now even though it says there are four seasons within the app. My guess is that someone needs to revisit the code to find theses bugs or its just false advertising.

Con. P. Apr 12, 2022

Do not buy mega-fan subscription, it is a complete scam unless they fix offline viewing. I have downloaded 6 episodes and not one of them has subtitles, making it impossible to watch them. I was told that connecting to wifi or data might help solve the issue, but none of the downloadex episodes will load if the phone is connected to wifi or data, I sat for 15 minutes waiting for them to load. In theory it should be great but there is no point to paying for a service that simply doesn't work.

Crunchyroll servers in general are bad. Gigabit ethernet, WiFi, 5G, 4G, multiple browsers, doesn't matter. Buffering issues all the time. Multiple devices, and several friends have the exact same issue. The app and the website are fine enough, but they clearly don't have the infrastructure to support the amount of content they provide to as many users as they've got. Don't have any issues with any other streaming service.
