Cryptonite

This is a free and open-source file encryption solution based on the original EncFS code. Cryptonite is fully compatible with all EncFS features.
Mounting doesn't work on some Android 4.2 devices. We're working on a solution.

READ THIS FIRST: This application is UNDER DEVELOPMENT. Intended for EXPERIENCED ANDROID USERS ONLY. While most features don't require root, mounting EncFS volumes requires ROOT and Kernel FUSE support (found in some CyanogenMod ROMs). Downloading from, uploading to and creating EncFS volumes on your Dropbox or on your phone is supported on all devices.@marius: siehe deutsche Anleitung: https://github.com/neurodroid/cryptonite/wiki/How-To-German@H: Don't use the rating system as your testing playground. It's highly demotivating.

OFFLINE MODE: To access an encrypted Dropbox volume when you're offline, sync the encrypted volume to a local folder with one of the many apps that provide online storage synchronization (e.g. FolderSync Lite or Dropsync). Then, mount that local volume with Cryptonite. This will only work on rooted phones that support FUSE though.

SECURITY: Read up on important security considerations: https://github.com/neurodroid/cryptonite/wiki/Security-Considerations

PERMISSIONS: Internet permission is required to access your Dropbox.SD card access is required to read and write files.

FAQ: Why can't I decrypt and encrypt files on the fly?Why can't I mount EncFS volumes on my Samsung/ Motorola / Sony device? Why can't I access any folder on my Dropbox? Why do I need root privileges to mount EncFS and TrueCrypt volumes?See https://github.com/neurodroid/cryptonite/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions

Actually this worked for me.. because i used boxcryptor classic which is indeed a good software with only one flaw that it CAN NOT batch-decrypt multiple files at one time when u need to do so therefore u h have to deceypt them one-by-one and that's a painful process...this app solved the problem for me besides it can encrypt files using encfs file system so i think i will stick to it.

Used to work until latest upgrade and/or when I linked a work account to Dropbox. Now getting error: "Problem reading from Dropbox: null" when I try to decrypt the same encfs volume (it works from computer via EncFS and used to work fron Cryptonite)

On the fly mount option but one drawback only readonly mode. Hope author makes changes.

Everything I try to create a column it just fails. Used to work for me a while back.

I've been using this for a while on multiple devices. Being able to mount truecrypt containers on android is always nice.

This app works well in Lollipop. But since I upgraded my phone to Marshmallow, mounting doesn't work anymore. I'm using ElementalX kernel which supports FUSE. Will Marshmallow fix come soon?

I tried creating a local volume. But that folder still exists and not encrypted!!! I can still visit it by the file explorer. I don't know what this app was designed for. It does nothing at all.

Now mounting an encFS folder can be accessed for normal write operation in Gionee M2 OS v4.22 Jelly Bean. However, in Ubislate Tab 7CZ OS v4.4.2 KitKat, write operations in mounted folder can be accessed only via root file browser (file renaming though, can be done using a normal file browser. How can we mount TrueCrypt container file?. 20151130: please add multiple folders mounting facility.

Bit of a learning curve, but great app. Nice linking with encrypted Dropbox folders.

Works really well with volumes. Hoping to find a way to decrypt my 3TB usb drive with a fully encrypted partition. Can this app do that, even manually through the trypcrypt command line?

Works great on older android versions, expect nothing.

Will be awsome!

Where do I find the password?

The new version does not allow copying or moving files into a mounted volume. I cannot even create new files or folders on a mounted volume (Android 4.2.1 Jellybean)

Works as expected for my devices (Galaxy Note and Nexus 7) running CM ROMs. Had a problem on the Nexus 7 which went away after updating to the latest CM Nightly build (so was most likely a CM problem). I recommend new users to read the cryptonite wiki and Issues page to familiarise themselves with using the app.

I've just started testing this app and so far it's very good, except I cannot delete folders. Files I can delete but not folders. Being able to select multiple files to upload to an encrypted folder would improve the app immensely, 1 file at a time makes it unusable for me ATM.

Its a great start towards a seamless integration of file encryption. I have only checked the Dropbox folder encryption. There was no problem creating new encrypted folders from both Win7 and android 4.1.2 and browsing and adding data from the other and vice versa. Though i found a BUG which made me crazy for a while. When making new encrypted files from win7, there was no problem in reading and adding files in the windows side but when opened in cryptonite it does not show the contents of the folder and says "couldnt find an EncFS configuration file in the directory. Do you want to use an external file?" This error never came when new folders were created from the cryptonite app but persistantly showed when they were made in win7. Later i noticed that when this error msg appears, another folder gets generated(only in the file browser of cryptonite and not in dropbox server) with the same name of the parent folder, except in all lowercase, and when navigated in that newly generated folder, everything worked fine!! So later i tested by making folders with names in dopbox with all lowercase and the problem never arose. Though its a small stuff but needs a work around!

Hi, this app's concept is fantastic, it provides encFS (boxcryptor) support for files I have separately synced from the cloud to my android device. The one very big sore point is that mounting just doesn't work for me. The only way to use the app is with the decrypt local folder option, which essentially decrypts just one file at a time. This is extremely limiting. I'm using a nexus 5. I tried it stock rooted, stock rooted with franco kernel, and the latest cyanogenmod 11 nightlies. I got different weird error messages depending on which iteration I tried. Some said the mount point was not empty (it was), others said the destination directory was not found (it was correct). I even tried mounting through and elevated adb shell. No errors reported from the encfs binary, but still nothing was mounted. It takes a lot of effort for us simple non-expert users to research all this stuff to try to come up with a working solution. I think the author should do some of this research for us, for example keeping an updated and comprehensive FAQ. Perhaps specify which kernels work with which devices. Again, a great concept and interface, but the best feature doesn't work

As a Linux and Android user, I truly appreciate what you are trying to do here. While I only want this app for the mounting of local folder, and that doesnt work for me right now, Im still giving you 5 stars. I know these things take time to do and Im sure your not getting paid for it. Good work dudes!

I just had a great user experience from this app, syncing my encfs volume from Dropbox. Much smoother than the" all-in-one" secure file sync service SpiderOak in fact.

Never experienced any hickups; does what it says it does and does it well. Really great in combination with DropSync. A Send-to (Share) feature to quickly upload something would be really great, though. Would gladly pay for a Pro version if it had this feature.

I can not link to Dropbox account. Is the same error report on application site (error 59). My device is Samsung N8000 with 4.0.4 Android version. Please fix it ASAP. I will give 5 stars after fix. Thanks!

Great app, very easy to use. Makes it easy to share encrypted files through dropbox or other unsecure cloud services.

Jen. D. Sep 27, 2014

Great work. Linking with Dropbox worked seamlessly at first go. Obviously it's not a design masterpiece, but still giving 5 stars just for the concept and functionality.

som. o. Jan 17, 2014

used to love it, but now it doesn't work on any of my devices.

Nem. N. Nov 16, 2013

It does not seems to list all files and folders on dropboxs.. Looks to me that problem is with path leght...
