When I first tried this app, it was too difficult for me, but having spent some time on chess training I find that I can now cope. The tactics aren't easy, but the in app support is really good with demonstration of why your move was wrong and some helpful hints and tips based on simpler but similar problems. Really addictive and I do feel that I am improving. Well worth paying for the full version.
I wish I could give 4.5 stars Chess King apps are always high quality but most of them have two very noticeable flaws.... 1) There are no explanations on the puzzle solutions 2) Puzzles with multiple lines you can only "analyze" the last one after you complete it. If you don't understand the first line opponent played you'd better have an amazing memory or be taking notes. Other than that, amazing and high quality app. I've purchased about 10 of them and counting!
This is a the best chess app I have used. The ubiquitous complaint would have to be that there is often too much disparity between the main puzzles and the "lesser" puzzles. The latter help you when you get stuck by relaying the concept of the given puzzle but in a more basic, easily conceptualized formula. The lesser puzzles are fine but the main ones need a further hint or two before kicking you to the kiddy pool.
Really like it so far. I bought the full version and don't really have any complaints. Had to spend some time clicking around the app to figure out how everything works. Edit - I feel like every time I open the app I get an Authentication Failed error, even though I can see my profile and my progress looks correct.
Unbelievably excellent! Superb user interface and the best positions. The coaching is seamless and slowly introduces the user to complex themes with the best hint system I've ever had the fortune of using. Especially impressive is the board dividing into smaller sections and counter play exercises . The premium version is an absolute bargain! Much appreciation to the developers. Kind regards Chris
Revolutionary. Solve all the puzzles in Elementary Tactics 1 and 2( 1200s) and Ivaschenkos chess school 1a and 1b (1400) ( which is sold as chess tactics for beginners by this publisher) preferably, people have also solved chess combinations 1 and 2 (1600) by the same publisher. This app is WAY MORE ADVANCED and should be used by 1500 and above to get to 2000. Remember what's the point of solving hard puzzles in 10 mins if you miss simpler tactics which lose you the game over the board right?
app is unwilling to allow the player to explore the possibility of better moves. on the very first problem i solved it, and then did the counter point and discovered i could fork the king and the rook with the knight (which was a critical piece in this problem). it gave me an error message and wanted to force me into what it thought was the correct move. chess is ALL ABOUT interpretation. you need a way for the program to allow for exploration of alternative moves.
This app is structured very well, dividing the exercises into various categories. The exercises themselves will provide a challenge to intermediate and advanced players, and if a solution evades you, the app will breakdown the problem into a simpler version to illustrate the winning concept. Great learning tool!
After using the free version and hearing many people talk about how they "woodpecker" CT art, I thought I would give it a go. I am working my way through the tactics by theme and I am very impressed with the puzzles. I would be an intermidiate player anyway but this app has opened my eyes regarding some types of combinations. Even some of the "lower rated" puzzles can be difficult at times. I am rated 2300 on this app yet I occasionally fail to spot a combination at the lower difficulty levels.
The tactics are completely based upon specific scenarios that I have rarely experienced in all my years playing chess. In a perfect world where both sides are within two moves from checkmate and you just happen to have your pieces in the perfect spot then yes, the tactics work. Otherwise, this is a complete waste of time. I am dumber having played this. Thank you to whatever dungeon master/chess playing narcissist created this monumental enema of the mind. Minus five stars! -5 🌟 😠 🖕
The app has high quality problems, but the instructions and interface could be better. Explanations for some of the harder puzzles and longer combinations are non existent especially when finding a solid move that is not the best one. Without clearer lessons, i can't see payi g for more of the same.
As a competitive chess player I really appreciate the real problem solving puzzles from actual games and good user interface. Only one problem really difficult to continue from the previously done puzzles or at least easily return to your last progress. P.s this is the first time I have ever written anything about a app, it's that good
Nice app for beginners.... You can learn faster by solving puzzles. But it is an app. In real time you will have hundreds of possibilities when playing chess. Obviously everything is not captured in this game. But developers have put a really good effort.
This is the best application I've found to push my chess to the next level, thinking out of the box. I had so many "wait, what?! but why?! aaahhhh, wow that's brilliant" moments playing this that I think I'll never be able to feel fully comfortable playing chess again.
My only critique would be. . There's no dialog between you and the system. It would be fantastic if, when you made a mistake, the program explains why its wrong. It does show moves but there needs to be a better explanation.
Convecta/chess King apps are high quality and a great price considering, what I would love to see would be the '5x5' mini chessboard exercises (they were in CT ART 3) as an app by themselves - or if you could select to just play these by themselves in the normal app. They are the core of the combination boiled down to its purest form.
App is great except these automatic moves, supposedly these are the obvious move, then why make it automatic? If it's obvious then we should be able to find it. These are not helpful. It would be a 5 for me if not for these, I actually also bought the full package.
Excelent app. I love the analysis of alternate moves to see if all variations were taken into account. Also it shows a reply for the non correct moves. Highly recommend it.
Love this app! I'm happy they listened to my feedback. They've moved some of the notification bubbles (landscape mode, on a tablet) that hindered my speed. I hope that, eventually, small details will be improved. I own 11 different Chess King apps, and tell people of this company often. I really can't say all my positive feedback with the limited space here.
So many ideas and variations to learn from in just 1 puzzle! They also have a great deal awesome themes to study! I'm a National Master and this app is still teaching how much more there is to learn about improving my tactical vision.
The app is really awesome and much better than the course for beginner tactics from the same company. Highly recommended to anyone willing to put time and effort to really improve oneself in tactics.
A very good application , it would have been even better(perhaps best) if they could add diagram scan facility in it. Nonetheless quality of puzzles , analysis and interface is simply awesome.
Very good app. I enjoy the exercises and the explanations are good. Occasionally, I struggle to understand why some moves are not recommended, but so far the program has been right every time
I like this app because it prompts you to see more than one possibility and provides the solution after several failed attempts of your own. It is realistic and certainly will improve the average players chess IQ as it pertains to tactics.
5/5 Pure tactics trainer with quite difficult problems. When you miss, you get help and very good explanations for actual training - it's not a simple puzzle mode where you don't actually learn "why".
I previously complaint about some missing features but other than the app seeming a bit unstructured until you're used to it, it's really amazing and offers some very valuable content.
The puzzles are great, but I had a question on why my level 10 has only 26 puzzles, when my chess coach says there should be 120+ in level 10, and I cannot find an answer. I paid $8 for the app and cannot figure out if I received the full version or not.
Most useful application unlike other tactics softwares that don't explain why a move is good or bad.only area of improvement is the interface. It can be better and controlled.
Great tactics app with excellent choice of thematic problems. Each variation has a checked refutation and the problems are from the actual GM games. Worth also buying and removing adds.
A very nice app for practicing chess tactics. The problems are well organised based on themes. The thing I like is that when we are unable to find the best move, the app lets us try it again after giving small hints. If we are still unable to do it, the app gives bigger hints, for example, it gives a simpler problem based on the same theme. I liked the app very much and therefore, I purchased the premium version.
