Great idea, poorly executed. The concept is great but the app has many flaws. Downloads often won't appear in the library (though remain in storage forever), queues can suddenly be wiped, very few if any filter capabilities asides from fairly abstract words. This could be so much better with more investment in the app UI
Great concept - poor UX Content on this app was great. Poor experience let's it down. For me, whenever I played certain playlists (wake up with curio), it wouldn't carry on playing when I locked my phone. Had to walk around with my phone unlocked and even then the playback kept stopping. Would happily return and pay for a subscription if they sorted the android app out
The software is awful. Not intuitive, dead links. The content is great but the functionality of the application is not there. It's pretty but it doesn't work. The developer's need to get on this or they're not going to see much income in the near future. Users don't want it to be this difficult to use the application. With Spotify and other streaming services to compete with, I see this tanking fast. Literally only got it to hear Gillian Anderson.
the app playing inaudibly and indefinitely on my phone speaker, episode by episode, after being disconnected from Bluetooth ie my car or headphones turning off is apparently a feature, as they responded to my bug report as if it were a feature request.. glad no other app I've literally ever used has this feature
Narration is great. Can't choose accent though. Audio keeps stopping. Can't sort or filter by date. The main/home page is not optimal. I couldn't find articles that are interesting. I want to be able to choose based on what financial subscriptions I like. I want to hide that are nonfinancial. That means it should give us an option to choose subscription/magazine we like instead of manually searching them all the time. Would have been great. I will subscribe when you improved your UI. Beta much
The issue with content not updating was fixed. Now My Queue isn't working - have been noticing over a period of time already. Clicking on add to my queue, but hours later nothing shows up in the queue. Artikles get deleted after closing the app. Is the queue meant to work that way. Pls either add a Bookmark button directly to the article view or change Queue behaviour. my past review: And now stopped working - no updated articles for 4 days. Deleted local data, reinstalled - nothing helps. On the web interface the content is updating, for some reasons not in the app. Poor reading experience though with a browser on the phone. Please fix the app! my initial review: content is great. App functionality needs improving - e.g. impossible to find what you save as playlists bookmarks etc.
I keep having to uninstall and reinstall the app because it keeps stopping at particular dates and won't show new articles beyond that date. Reinstalling fixes the issue, but this still shouldn't be happening in the first place. It's totally unprofessional for an app that costs this much to be this buggy.
I have been using Curio for a few months and have lots to speak. But pare it to one and two. 1. Technical glitches have never been really resolved. 2. There are cheats in your midst. Few are tampering with the algorithm to make his or her show appear first and can never be rid off. Look at your individual writers, not the media sources. They even place there pieces in the queue and make them irremovable. I guess these annoy me enough despite mostly excellent content.
It's been so many days and the content is not updating!! It's 2022 Can you please add dark mode? Your android app is so so so outdated compared to iOS app. And it doesn't refresh after a particular date! I actually thought of supporting you guys but nope. App is outdated in design and doesn't function properly. I'm cancelling my subscription, bye.
I'm impressed by the publications you have as part of your offerings, my only problem is that there's no option to read them. Also there's no option where I can select a publication and only read it's articles. (Will be unsubbing at the moment as audio doesn't cut it for me.)
I enjoy the articles but please auto-pause podcasts when Google maps navigation is talking. Every other reputable podcast app does this, and without auto pause I can't use the app in the car. It's a shame because the content on this app is excellent!
Can't use app due to connection error. No other apps have connection errors. I've tried restarting my app and phone. App simply not working. I'm not going to continue to pay for a service I have to troubleshoot to even receive.
The app stops playing an eposide when the phone screen is locked i.e. timed out. This is frustrating and makes the app almost useless in every case where it keep needed. Fix that bug please! I have Samsung Note 20 Ultra 5G.
Audio doesn't stop when Bluetooth is off (when I turn off my car), it just continues speaking through phone speaker. Sleep timer doesn't work, audio keeps playing throughout.
I thought the tracks were really high quality, the actors well chosen to match the authors. It also seemed the selection of newspapers and magazines was quite comprehensive. I'm not sure if it was just the pieces I listened to (about 10-12 of them), but the content seemed really US centric. I would have expected a more global, international perspective and balanced learnings. Thus unsubscribing (I'm a European based in Berlin, Germany for now).
A lot of potential and great content, but poor performance. I really like the selection of articles, and that it allows to download and save articles, but the app crashes quite often for me. Also, some specific audios aren't well recorded and stop playing at a specific point. It feels much more technical stability it's needed in order to make a better user experience. I also don't like that if I delete a daily notification about new audios, then I can't find them again.
The Curio content and readers are first-rate, but the app! The app is a horror show. It's gone from bad (no back-button navigation, won't let you exit from the notification bar, won't unload from memory) to worse (huge headline images, can't scroll without accidentally activating a story, horrible screen real-estate use in which text is truncated and inaccessible.)
EDIT after update: Well improved since last comment. No more bugs. Flowing track, I can now enjoy great articles without pause. Just a few issues of navigation (return key could take you back to main screen instead of quitting the app, and the lecture starts a bit to randomly when an article is selected). Great idea and narration, diverse articles and interesting topics. But the app is crashing too frequently to grant the yearly subscription. When problems are resolved, I will re-install it.
I love the content but the app is clunky and feels like it hasn't been updated in years. The search is very basic and it's difficult to find topics on a theme, rather they are sorted by publication. Overall it is fairly expensive for the functionality of the app. The articles and narrators, however, are very good.
The content is top-class. Will continue to use the app. However the app could use some major debugging.. keeps crashing when listening. Audio just stops and app closes. This can happen multiple times in a few minutes, making listening impossible. Other times audio keeps playing, but i get a message "unable to connect to app". Very buggy despite being around for some time..
Annoying bugs. I lost all my downloads in an automatic upgrade, which I'd spent a lot of time choosing and curating, and don't seem to be getting much useful support despite being a subscriber. They actually still there somewhere but the app won't recognise them. Don't think I'll probably resubscribe next year. If I want an app that doesn't work even BBC sounds is better!
Can you prioritize fixing this app before launching new features. I joined Curio in the early days when you first launched. The content was interesting, the narrator's were entertaining, and the sources were credible. However your user experience was horrible. Queuing is a disaster, searching relevant contant was mission and the app overall is filled with bugs. A few months later I decided to renew my subscription only to find nothing has changed except for the addition of Wake Up With Curio..
Updated review. Great topics, live the access, but the queuing is atrocious. Won't auto queue selected tracks, and plays the same ones over and over. Beyond frustrating because you have to keep opening the app selecting what you want try to make sure you library is queued up, start again... then same problem. And it doesn't play well with Bluetooth :/ If it wasn't for the content it would be 1 star
User interface is annoying, design could use a lot of work. Better/clearer organization would be nice. The dev team should have some new users play around with the app and give them feedback. Something small like triggering an event on tap is bad. It should be tap down *and* let go on a button. Otherwise there's unnecessary triggers. Scrolling up would lead to unintentionally expanding current podcast playback., and sometimes following with unintentionally skipping to another time.
What a shame, I had high hopes for this app. In the one day I have used it the content is good, stretches the mind and opens you up to new experiences. Unfortunately it is let down by the Android Auto experience. There are limited controls when in the content so you don't have the 10 second forward or back function which is really important when driving so you don't miss content and/or to find your place in a talk. Obviously you can't use app controls on phone when driving. Shame.
Great app Excellent choice of content and superbly narrated. It's a great insight in finance and informative for fresh crypto and stock investors
The subscription experience is terrible. Tried to subscribe and was getting notifications that it was unsuccessful. Contacted the support team and was told that if I didnt get an invoice then I should try again. I haven't tried it yet and a few days later I get an email that someone charged the card to initiate subscription. Worst thing is when I go in manage my subscriptions I get that no active subscriptions exist. Terrible customer experience before even using the product 😞
I love the content, I really do. However the app needs work. It crashes on me often when I'm streaming. Removing downloads from the list is burdensome. There aren't enough options in settings for how the app should function. I have to remove every single article manually from my queue to clear it. I really like the content and I hope the app steps up
This app has great potential. This is the best app I have ever come across from instagram advertisement. But like most of them, the first thing it asks for is a subscription. A better way to fund yourself would be by audio advertising and member exclusive tracks. Audio news articles are great when you need to be updated while doing your other work. Keep it up, a few fixes here and there can make the UI even better. Like the low quality notification icons. Keep it up, kudos to the developers.
I love the concept of this app and use it fairly often. I would use it more often but there are a number of glitches: * it seems to take a long time to start up - if I try to select the first article then nothing happens for several seconds * if I scroll & select an article to get more info but then go back, the main list has sometimes refreshed itself, so not only do I lose my place, the start is now different. * liking an article doesn't seem to 'stick' & will revert its state Please fix!
