I used a competitor app for a few weeks, and got VERY frustrated with (lack of) stability & performance. Changed to Cycle Hire Widget, what a difference! Quickly upgraded to the full version for faves & 3 minute data refresh. Three quid very well spent!
I sometimes blend London's Boris Bikes into my commute. I buy train tickets without tube and then use the bike on the way to work, and an Oyster trip on the Tube back to the railway station. This app allows me to see where bikes and return slots are.
It use to work, not sure what changed, but now directs me to FULL stations, when I need to deposit a bike. The app mocks me by telling me the data has just refreshed mere seconds ago with the latest, when I am clearly standing right in front of a full station. It may work well for London, but in DC you will have luck getting the right answer by tossing three coins and divining the answer.
The widget and app display are clever, although the red/green colors are difficult for colorblind people to discern. However, it's all but useless for the systems I've used in the USA (DC, Mpls), as it never has up to date dock counts.
Good app, I use it every day in London. Needs 4G or wifi though or too slow to update status of docking points
My favorite bike share app by far, a tiny widget you can put on your main screen to tell you practically everything you need about the status of stations near you.
Good tablet layout, and nice system with the colour coding. The compact widget is a nice idea too. A resizable widget in future versions might be nice for when you've got more than 3 docking stations in your vicinity.
If you use bikes in London regularly this app is essential but you need paid version to be useful because of the real time state of stations you get. Faves is handy and the maps and gps are very good. I use it to navigate through London. Bonus
DO NOT BUY! This was formerly the very best cycle hire app (at least for London, but also supporting many, many other cities) but as of a few weeks ago the developer and their domain (littlefluffytoys.mobi) have disappeared and as a consequence the app just displays "Comms Failure" and is no longer capable of updating docking station details.
Consistently displays incorrect availability status for Dublin Bikes. Use something else instead.
Should allow map to be cached/saved. Too slow loading. Also the map layer showing docking stations doesn't "stick" to the underlying map when scrolling /zooming, which is very annoying.
Pretty good functionality EXCEPT that the compass showing you which direction the nearest docking point is doesn't seem to work. I can rotate on my feet & the arrows don't move!
Very good in most ways but not reliable due to problems with the tfl real time data feed....hence 4 stars...also need a decent data connection to make sense....offline maps would really help!
I just want the simple stuff, the map and the 'nearest', this app does those better.
Stations closed or temporarily removed still appear as available.
Apart from this 5stars
Essential to find a free/full bike station when you need.
I rely on it a lot although could be more accurate sometimes.
Would love to see Berlin added to the supported cities
Lovely software and the map interface is far better than the official Santander app
THE app for santander bikes. Better than the alternatives.
Used to love this. Now it constantly tries to turn wi fi on.
Makes Boris bikes the favoured form of transport. Superb.
Great to have a good alternative to the official ask in London
I'd be lost without it
Everything an android app should be.
Using the map automatically turns the WiFi on. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn this off, and not only is it invasive it can make the app unusable at times. UPDATE: That was on a Nexus 4, I just tried using this app on a Galaxy S4 mini and exactly the same thing happens. Please fix this.
