The free version has the same features as the full version, but with ads.
Cloud Save also works between the free and full versions, so you will not lose any progress.
There are 99 levels to play, all levels available in the original game.
Collect powerups to buy extra help in form of permanent particle laser, A.I.droid, jumping or extra lives. They can be disabled, if you change your mind. More can be bought with in-app purchases.
Settings include control type and size, music path and music and sound effects volume. Before complaining about the controls, please test them for a while to see which one suits you the best. Also try different control sizes. Also supports game pads, tested with PS3 controller using Sixaxis controller app, Nyko Bluetooth controller and with NVIDIA SHIELD.
The first time the game is started, it will select control type and size based on your device properties. If a gamepad is connected, controls will be hidden and fullscreen is enabled where available. Key mappings are done in the control settings. Gamepad control supports analog joystick for movement.
Touch control types:
Multi touch swipe:
Lower part of display is used to swipe left and right to move the blaster. Right side buttons used for shooting, jumping and superzap. This is the default control for Android 2.2+ devices with true multi touch.
Dual touch swipe:
Similar to multi touch swipe, but for devices without true multi touch. Lower part of display is used to swipe left and right to move the blaster and simultaneously shoot, and swipe up to jump. Right side buttons used for superzap. This is the default control for Android 2.2+ that does not have true multi touch.
Single touch arrows:
Use on devices without multi touch. Controlled with one finger, typically the thumb. Side-arrows area moves while shooting. Up arrow area moves and shoots and jumps when available. Top area superzaps. Center area does not move, the further out on the arrows, the faster movement.
Multi touch arrows:
Use on devices with multi touch. Left side similar to single touch arrows for moving. Right side buttons used for shooting, jumping and superzap. This control type works well with the touch emulated Sixaxis controller.
Multi touch circular:
Use finger to rotate around the circular control on the left side. Right side buttons used for shooting, jumping and superzap.
On Android 4.0+ and devices with soft keys, there is an option to go to real fullscreen mode. Note that this does not work when using touch controls, only when using keyboard or gamepad.
For some older devices, performance may be increased by setting the sound effect volume to zero. The graphics details can also be set to low for better performance on low end devices.
For copyright reasons, the original Tempest 2000 music is not included in the game, but can be automatically downloaded from the settings. It is also possible to select any other music.

What have you done with this game for starting up? It won't start without internet and gaming ID... this game should work without internet and i don't want to have another signing in on top of my Google sign in. Is ridiculous. I can't play this game unless on wi-fi so i need a refund even though this my favourite game of all time.
TEMPEST 2000. SUPERBLY DONE. A pleasure drOpping 99cents on this gem. I spent a bit of time to get be best control set for mobile. DUAL Swipe Yes Congrats. Dev. Pulling this off so well on mobile.

I never played tempest 2000 but this game is fun but I would like to see some original music for this app instead of downloading the tempest 200 soundtrack
Controls are bit more difficult, but still an awesome port. Just needs the bonus levels and more of the pixel effects and star field patterns.

This game was really fun to see, as I remember it well from the Jaguar times. However, on my Nexus 6, the on screen controls are to small, even on the Huge setting. I need a Super Huge config, and it would also benefit if I was able to choose where the touch areas are located. Too many times my fire finger got outside of the screen and the claw stopped firing as a result.
Runs great on my Sony z2 with lollipop! I loved the old jaguar game and it's great to play it anywhere on my phone. Controls are responsive considering its touch operated too. Thank you for releasing this game, especially when atari themselves don't care about fans enough to have released a decent version since the ps1.
Highly recommended for T2K fans. However, I agree with other users about how hard it is to grab powerups - the original game was much more forgiving in this regard. I hope bonus rounds are coming, though, and denser pixel effects would be nice. Dev responds to emails and is very helpful.
Brings back memories of me and my Atari Jaguar. I somehow got used to the controls. Worth the purchase. The ads were really annoying.
Looks awesome but I can't play very well on the touch controls. I wanted to make them bigger but they are 'huge' by default and there is no bigger option. Guess I'll have to use a controller to play this.
Talk about bringing back memories. The game itself is beautiful and delivers exactly what it promises. The downside is that the controls are terrible. Joystick is WAY over sensitive, making the ship impossible to control. In fact the only reliable way I've found to control it is with a keyboard and arrow keys. :-/
Great to have my old favourite on my phone. I'd say it's as good a version as I could wish for, given the touchscreen necessity. Think of that as an added challenge :-)

... yet not quite there. A brilliant, if incomplete, conversion of one of my favourite games of all time. Frustratingly, the controls just don't feel quite right (Shield Tablet with controller) and the power-ups seem more difficult to collect than in the original game; I'm used to being able to sweep left and right, grabbing power-ups as I pass, but in this game I miss them more often than not. Needs the bonus levels in order to truly emulate the original. Keep up the good work!
Good attempt at recreating the Atari Jaguar version but needs some improvements. Even with control sensitivity set to 10 it feels slow to respond and is not precise enough. The game mode could also benefit from a static option where the playing field doesn't move about like the Atari Jaguar version has.

Never had the chance to play Tempest 2k on a Jaguar but wanted to ever since I came across the soundtrack years ago; Even bought the CD soundtrack and I believe it's still sold on Amazon. The gameplay is simple but addicting. It's a bit like a precursor to REZ with its trippy style and mix of sound and visuals. The only thing I don't like is that the app requires access to Google Play and even Google Drive. This should really work offline without any special permissions;
