An Awesome adaptation of the classic boardgame. Well worth the money paid and will be buying the expansions soon. Game interface is intuitive and simplistic but still brings all you need to your fingertips in 1 or 2 clicks. Tablet advised as tried on phone and too small. UPDATE - Have bought both expansions and will review soon. Expansions well worth the cost and am slowly introducing them into my games. COOL Have now bought both expansions but not played yet.
Kind of broken since the latest update. System notifications don't work and the app won't load about half the time I try to open it. When it works, it's great but it's become very difficult to play online games lately.
The game is awesome. The design of the mobile version is terrible. The amount of times you have to pass the phone or tablet around just to do mundane things like choose a quest from an intrigue card, choose a class or cube, or just simply end your turn after choosing is absolutely infuriating (while watching a recap for each) . Simple things that can be done on your turn and shouldn't require you to pass it on. There's also no way to skip the recap. You can make it go by faster bot not skip.
Great game, really annoying sound issues. Specifically, I hate the sound. I always turn the music and sound effects off on games that I play. With Lords of water deep, if I connect to a Bluetooth sound device, such as when I get in my car, it will start playing sounds. But if I go into settings, they are all still turned off. I actually have to turn them on, and then turn them back off. And then it's quiet. But if I disconnect from a Bluetooth sound device, the game starts making sound again.
This is a beautifully implemented mobile game with no bugs that I have seen so far. The AI plays well and the game is very replayable. It would be nice if we had the option to remove the Mandatory Quests as those are petty and stupid yet liable to cause rancor. I hate seeing them myself and simply quit whenever the AI plays one on me. Other than that, I have nothing but praise for this lovely and competent game. Well done!
Two things that would make this a five star game: if there must be a timer (1) option to pause the game [timer] and (2) rather than having a forfeit when the time goes out, have that person just loose the rest of their turns. Too many close games have been essentially erased due to the timer. It would be nice to see what the score was at the time the game ended.
I really like this game. Easy to learn and play. I like to play against AI and the matches move along briskly and can be finished in one sitting. My only issues are that the game won't go to full screen, and it makes my phone a bit too warm. None of my other games have these issues. Regarding not being full screen, this is not an issue when playing but in the game creation menu the text boxes overlap with each other and spill off the screen. Neither of these issues bother gameplay itself.
It's a good app and the expansions make it interesting. But it's a bit clunky for the phone. The replay after you get locked out is annoying and delays the game and it is also really hard to see whose turn it is . Players miss the fact that it's their turn, the small flashing light isn't that obvious, especially on a smaller screen.
Really good game (at least with the expansions; the base game is a little thin), but the AI opponents are pretty weak. I'd never played this game before and I was stomping them on the highest level within a few games. In particular, they tend to have too much Corruption at the end of the game, and they don't make enough effort to maximize their lords' bonuses. Playing without Skullport makes for much more competitive games, though.
Great game! However, I found a bug that keeps it from 5 stars. When I complete the "Defend the Yawning Portal" quest during an online match, which returns 3 meeples, the board freezes and I cannot move any meeples. I have to completely close the app and restart it. Only then am I able to keep playing. It gets pretty annoying to do this every time. Fix this bug for 5 stars.
Absolutely fantastic version of the board game! Works great cross platform (been playing on mobile and Steam). High quality art, music, sound, gameplay works perfectly, the expansions are a must buy. As of Nov 02 2018 the only "problem" (not gameplay related) I have ran into was a bug with achievements and the viewing of past "completed games" counting as another win.
One of my favorite games! It is just like the physical table top board game. I wish they would create more expansions! I mostly play online and regularly have about 10-12 games going at once. I also play offline against the computer when I'm out at my cabin too! My biggest concern is the connectivity. I find I can't connect to the network often (when in the city). It does cause delays and have timed out of the shorter game lengths. I now only play 45day length just in case.
Love this game. Wish clues were a little emote pronounced. Maybe vibrate when it's your turn, or have the screen flash. Also, my some was setting up the multiplayer games. He didn't realize you could click on the timer to extend the game play time. So we played two half hour matches, and the timer forced me to forfeit mid game. I set up the next game and figured it out right away. Otherwise, we love it.
Fun! I've played this game for hundreds of hours over the years. It is one of my favorite board games! The UI isn't the best, and the sounds are okay, but you can mute them.
A faithful port of the boardgame. Had serious issues getting it to install properly on my newer phone, but it fixed itself eventually. The interface though is clunky, makes poor use of the screen area, and hides information in difficult to find places. The notifications for online games are downright obnoxious. It plays a unneccessarily load alert sound which overrides the phones settings and blares loudly even if the phone is muted.
Great rendition of an enjoyable familiar game, but this is the second time the game quit working and I've had to clear caches, uninstall, reinstall, and lose all data. I have reinstalled twice this afternoon and the game will still not run (get's to the "Play" button step and play button will not start a game). This currently my go-to game but having to go through this rigmarole repeatedly is not a sign of good game craftsmanship.
Good game but the AI is really bad so there's no challenge in playing alone. The game also drains your battery pretty quickly. Those two things are why I gave it 3 stars.
I enjoyed this game on the table top. The mobile implementation seems to try to be a literal copy of the boxed game, which is problematic given the amount of space it takes. The result is a horrid "port" to mobile. The UI is cumbersome and buggy. I am on 2960x1440 display and still the cards are in micro print requiring numerous steps to view. If you are a die hard fan who has memorized all the cards you might find this passable. Still viewing opponents' resources requires a click on each.
The game has been great fun up until recently. My friends and I have all stopped receiving notifications when it is our turn, and we have all been removed from games because we have not gotten turn notifications. We have all tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game turning notifications on and off. Nothing has worked
I'm big on the board game + expansions, and got this due to not getting my fill since I only play the board game maybe once a month at best. For being limited to a tiny cell phone screen, they sure crammed the UI in really well. I've already played like 20 games against computers and the only complaint I have is that I would have to buy the Steam client to play on my PC as I don't have an Android tablet. Really well done!
I was excited to try this game. It's a good implementation, but seems obviously built for tablets, and not phones. The text and iconography was really small on a phone. I refunded this game because it was the first app to ever make my phone give me an overheating warning. I wish board game apps focused more dev time on efficiency and low battery consumption, instead of fancy visual effects.
Superb app. Fantastic game. Played the IRL board 100s of times. Was worried about paying for a board game app but it's great. The interface couldn't be easier. You can run multiple games at once. I play 5 player with my friends (full lockdown right now) and 2 of us are on Steam and 3 are on mobile. Cross platform is spot on. No issues there at all. If you are new to Lords, make sure you get the expansions (Undermountain and Skullport). The game isn't anywhere as good without them. Enjoy
A true-to-life digital take on the game, without all the clean up of the real thing. The AI floats between being too intelligent or too dumb within the same difficulty, but that just helps keep things on it's toes. Great value for a great game!
Superb Appdaptation, Without the Servers to Match... Lords of Waterdeep is one of the best board games ever made, and this app creates a faithful reproduction of it and it's two expansions in a clean, easy-to-use app. As far as digital pass-and-play board game apps go, it's top notch, but if you're hoping to play online, think twice before you buy. You will be infuriated by how frequently you see the message "could not connect to servers", and you'll auto-forfeit many games because of it.
My favorite game on Android. Never seen a game with so much detail on this platform. Never played the real deal so I can't say if it's a good port. The expansions are also worth it, they give you more mechanics and way more cards to play. And the best part, you can "alt-tab" at will, leave it in the background to do something else, return to it later and it didn't reset like all the other games out there. Have fun.
Ugh. I love the board game and this version remains truthful to it, but online play is a nightmare. I played 3 games twice I was one turn away from victory with plenty of timer left and it forfeits me. The other time someone else left the game and with one minute to spare it forfeits me too. So my online record is 0-3. Afaik there is no report button or anything like that. If you want to play against bots I can recommend it, but I won't be playing online, and that could potentially be fun.
It's good, but the resolution is messed up on the pixel 3XL. The game shows under the notch, and blocks part of the screen. If you turn your phone over, it moves the notch to the other side, but only blocks your opponents cards. It wasn't always like this. Must be bad QA.
Love this game so much! But what happened to offline mode? App will not fully open, just sits on black screen with the water deep logo. Now it's doing the same on or offline on several of my devices including new Google Pixel 6 pro. Anyone else with this problem???
I'm very impressed with both the game and the app. It's well worth the asking price although it ended up costing me a lot more as I ended up ordering the physical board game and expansion too. The app has a good tutorial so even if you're thinking of playing the physical game it's worth considering picking this up as a painless way to learn... chuck out the rule book! Cons: I've played on a tablet and I suspect it wouId be a struggle on a smaller screen.
