D-Day 1944 (Conflict-series)

Conflicts: D-Day is a highly rated turn based strategy game set on the Western Front during the Second World War.
General Eisenhower has stepped down and you are in the command of the Allied invasion force
- tank, airborne, infantry and air force units
- and the object of the game is to break out from the D-Day beachheads and liberate as much of German-occupied France as possible, as quickly as possible. To have a chance to seize the top spot in the Hall of Fame you need to skillfully encircle German units commanded by Erwin Rommel, while battling both the regular Wehrmacht divisions and the feared Panzer VI (Tiger I) tank units.

FEATURES:

+ Long-lasting: Thanks to in-built variation and the game's smart AI technology, each game provides a unique war gaming experience.

+ Competitive: Measure your strategy game skills against others fighting for the Hall of Fame top spots.

+ Supports casual play: Easy to pick up, leave off, continue later.

+ Challenging: Crush your enemy quickly and earn the bragging rights on the forum.

+ Settings: Various options are available to alter the look of the gaming experience: Switch between terrain themes, change difficulty level, choose icon set for units (NATO or REAL) and cities (Round, Shield, or Square), decide what is drawn on the map, change font and hexagon sizes.

+ Experienced units learn new skills, like improved attack or defence performance, ability to cross rivers without losing extra move points.

+ A wide variety of units under your command: Sherman M4 tanks, American/British/Canadian infantry divisions, paratroopers, special units like US Army Rangers and Royal Marines Commando Brigade, Crab mine cleaner tanks and air force units. Meanwhile, the German Wehrmacht starts with coastal fortifications, and weaker ost battalions and static infantry units, but as the days pass, is reinforced with regular infantry, Waffen SS and Panzer divisions.

+ Historical accuracy: Campaign mirrors the historical setup of the real 1944 Normandy landings
- including the divisions that saw combat during the D-Day and the following Normandy Campaign in World War II.

In order to be a victorious general, it is essential that you learn to coordinate your attacks in two ways. First, as adjacent units give support to an attacking unit, keep your units in groups in order to gain local superiority. Secondly, it is rarely the best idea to use brute force when it is possible to encircle the enemy and cut off its supply lines instead.

Join your fellow strategy gamers in turning the tide of the Second World War!

Conflict-Series has offered highly rated Android-only strategy games since 2011. The campaigns are based on the time-tested gaming elements TBS (turn-based strategy) enthusiasts are familiar with from both the classic PC war games and legendary tabletop board games. I also want to thank the fans for all the well thought-out suggestions over the years which have allowed these campaigns to improve at a much higher rate than what any indie developer could dream of. if you have feedback about the Conflict-Series please use email, this way we can have a constructive back and forth conversion without all the limits of the store's comment system. In addition, because I have huge number of projects on multiple stores, it’s just not very sensible to spend handful of hours each day going through hundreds of pages spread all over the Internet to see if somebody has posted a question somewhere -
- just send me an email and I will answer to it as soon as I'm online. Thanks for understanding!

Old school turn based strategy game enhanced with a lot of details that would make a board game impractical but that here enhances and add realism to the game. One comment to the developer: consider adding an undo option applicable just to movements, not battle resolution, it is easy to make the mistake to try to select the next unit and end up commanding a move on the current selected unit, other than that very playable. Looking forward to get more games! Great job!

Good game and I really appreciate the author producing these. My main criticism that flanking is way too powerful. I have had several divisions, completely wiped out for being flanked by one weak unit. It just isnt realistic. The Allies start well, buten face insurmountable odds with dozens of German Panzer divisions. And unlike in the real campaign, The Allied air power just isnt powerful to compensate for German numbers. I would also prefer unit patch symbols rather than soldier/tank symbols.

Second of these games I've played. Same flaws. Massively unbalanced. Too many and too strong German units. You just get mobbed. Allied airpower is too weak. If Overlord was really like this the Russians would have taken Paris and 21 Army Group would have been driven into the sea. Hopeless.

I enjoy playing all your games. They remind me of some boardgames I played in my younger days.

Most his games are worth it

Some improvements made have made this a better game than when I first bought it. Now that Joni has included an overall Hall-of-Fame, I can measure myself against the best in the world.

A really solid wargame in its own right, let alone easily one of the best on Android. Love the quotes and facts that appear. I have played through the campaign once and on my second attempt. AI seems challenging enough at the moment and really like the different outcomes for battles and details such as fatigue and concept of negative movement points units can get, which adds a lot of depth. These factors force you to really consider your tempo and ensure units are rested and replaced with fresh ones to maintain fronts. Emphasis on the encirclement of en units is a lot of fun too, especially by scoring you on larger ones achieved at game end. I will certainly be trying out others in the series and recommend to all tabletop wargamers. Often find myself up too late playing "just one more turn!" Almost forgot to mention very responsive to feedback and gives in depth answers. Well done indeed! Well worth the small price for hours of fun!

This is a fun game. Enjoyed it very much. Looking at the dev's other games now. There are a bunch of them, hard to choose.

why did you remove the symbols of the Waffen SS units? This is a historically accurate game, id hate to think that it was because someone or even Google complained.

Fantastic game! I just finished the game on normal and I am planning on buying the other games in the conflict series because this one is so great. It is well worth the money and the developer deserves every penny. The game has the perfect balance of challenge and reward. One of the best mobile games I have ever played

Well designed for the format. Challenging, but easy to use and can be played in increments. So far played about 10 hours. High replayability. Update: 4yrs on still my favourite mobile game.

Excellent game allies always win but how quickly

I like most of Joni's games and own 7 of them so far. This one, however, is not very well balanced in my opinion. Way too difficult on normal. Thank God Hitler didn't have the troops that the AI has in this game. Most of Joni's games are fairly competitive, with Kursk being the best in my view. This one isn't even close in its current version. UPDATED REVIEW. After the changes I think it plays much better. Definitely more balanced.

Miss the blue/red color sceme, it was easier for color blind users

Just a few turns in. Read updates.Brought D Day on 6-6-15.... generous reinforcement at least early on. Balance seems fairly even. Small scale a bit convulated tho.

Lots of fun for us old SSI fans and WW 2 buffs. Buy it.

I grew up playing Avalon Hill board games. I love this. Reminiscent of AH D-Day. I spent many hours with my friends fighting on the beach at Normandy. This is a very good game.

This is now my favourite of all the apps in the Joni Nuutinen series - in fact it is my favourite game. Short enough to motivate completion, but long and complex enough to engage with for one or more sessions, time and again. Historically realistic. Just right. More people should buy this one - look at the +1 percentage!

This is one of the most compelling games I've ever played - PC, console, board, or otherwise. While it could use more thorough documentation, it is relatively easy to learn, and the developer is good at responding to questions. The game is much deeper than it appears at first, so make sure you give it a fair shake before writing it off. I'm a WWII gamer, but I'm more into tactical gaming. I never thought I would enjoy gaming at this scale, but D-Day 1944 is a quality design. This is my first Conflicts Series game, but it won't be my last.

Reminds me of the Classic D-Day Board Game play style of the 1960's

Game is ok, but played once and got bored. Too expensive for what you get.

Excellent wargame with the emphasis on realism, historical accuracy & fun rather than graphics. Very reliable with no crashes so far in hours of gameplay on my nexus 7 (2012).
