D-Link Wi-Fi

Due to Google’s requirement of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Site Survey in recent updates to Android, Location Services are required to be enabled when you turn on either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in the operating system. Therefore, starting from Android 6, permission to access your phone's location is necessary for the app to set up your device. For further details, please refer to the following:

Terrible app. Rarely connects to the router, extremely slow to do so when it actually does. We're talking 5+ min. In fact the only in app "feature" I can review based on use is the speed test. None of the others would work, would load, or I just haven't been able to connect to the router to try them. I would return the router because this app is SO. BAD. and get a linksys, but the vendor doesn't accept open box returns.

I'm an experienced IT professional, and setup was painful and error-prone. It's working now, so it's not hardware or even interference. Too many manual steps with hard-coded passwords (you have a 2D barcode specific to my unit? Why can't YOU type it in? And why force me to wait several minutes for the "system is starting up"? You can tell it's up, don't force me to wait, then time out, then have to restart from step 1. Sheesh! Very frustrating.

D-Link's App is FAR behubd their competitors (Netgear, Tp-Link and Linksys)!!! They're the only app that cannot remotely manage the router! Instead you need to use a web browser and on mobile that looks and works horribly! Also their parental controls are buggy and very limited in features. Too bad because otherwise the actual router is fairly stable and easy to set up. The app itself needs a complete overhaul though.

This apps simply don't work for set up. Tried various sequence and options and numerous reset yet can set up but no internet connection. Installation guide also quite confusing. Good thing tech support was able to provide a quick resolution. Was advised to install using web version instead and had to select "other" for ISP instead of singtel. Good product but can forget about apps for setup and installation guide could be much better.

This was alot easier than setting up my last router. Almost seemless, however, I purchased an open box unit which had been previously installed (and returned). So the router needed to be reset to factory settings to be detected by the app. But this step wasn't documented anywhere. Fortunately I got through very quickly to D-Link phone support and got it sorted out . The rest went smoothly without a lot of tech jargon to figure out.

Absolutely frustrating. I followed the setup instructions 16 times before it finally connected on it's own as I was trying to figure out how to get some help from the website. The app would say the device was booting, the device would start blinking and then shut off, and then the app would not be able to find the device. Over and over again. And the FAQs were incredibly unhelpful. I even tried it using the wps button instead of the app and STILL no connection multiple times.

The installation does not tell you to turn off your mobile data to start install. Instead when you are almost done (10 minutes later), it tells you it cannot install unless you turn off your mobile data. Then it starts the installation all over again!! Install has several other restart glitches like powering on and off each device until you get the sequence EXACTLY right, then it works. Then when you do an update, it does it all over again! This should all be in the background seamless installed

This application did not recognize my brand new router. It also did not recognize my extender. Once I set up the router manually it did recognize it but it didn't recognize the extender. Also, any changes or attempts to make changes will result in the router disconnecting from the internet and then taking another minute to reboot. Very frustrating!

It took five tries to get the app to detect and link with router. Instructions were conflicting. To be able to detect the router you have to have it powered up already. But instructions say plug in router after you've already detected it. Obviously, they did not have somebody who was not involved with the project to walk through the app to make sure that it was actually correct in every step. Once the link was fully connected then it's working fine but getting app to initially connect.

A lot easier than I thought! Works great! Very happy with this purchase. Update: from 5 stars to 3 Inicial setup was very easy. Changing password was quite an hassle! Took me 30 to 45 minutes to put it to work again.... Couldn't find how to change password on device with the app, had to reset and do the whole process again, which only worked around the third or fourth time!

Main issue, when you first launch this app to configure your new hardware the app brings up a message to disable your mobile data network. Airplane mode does not fix this error and the only way I found to get around the issue is to eject the phone SIM. Once the SIM was removed the application worked as per the instructions and the rest of the setup was very well communicated in the app. Why is turning off the mobile data a requirement for configuring a router? This was very frustrating.

Absolutely love the app. It made setting up my router so simple. It shows everything from how to plug everything in, setting up new router name & password, updating the router and letting me know that its connected and completely done. After initial setup it tells you the connection is working and how many devices are connected to it and what the devices are. Highly recommend using this app.

I think this app could get better. The parental settings arent very clear. And once you set a schedule your phone will no longer pull up the app. I can see my family devices and when I try to control or rename them they duplicate in my list. Or they all come up as unknown. Pretty difficult to distinguish 11 devices when they all are unknown!! The router itself is good and doing its job. It's this app that needs some work

i expected a better experience than what i had. The app doesnt give me enough information about my wifi. What should have taken 20 mins to set up took over ~2 hours of attempts. Issue: App says there is an update but never showed the option to download it. The issue gets fixed with the scheduled update (@330am) Note: Quick install guide and app setup mention different steps. Follow the steps by app Works well after fix. Apart from a sub-par software & setup experience the performance is solid.

Looks like D-Link is doing a nice job making its routers easy to configure. It's too early to give this app a 5, thus a 4. Performing an initial router setup, updating firmware, and then connecting went well. I did try the speed test inside the app and it got to 99% and then froze up for over 10 minutes. I doubt it's choice a 5 rating without seeing this test complete.

Updated: After disabling the VPN on my phone, I was able to complete the app setup. It would be nice if those instructions were provided. Now that the app is working, my chief complaint is that I cannot view the status of the network or restart the network remotely using the app as I can with other mesh networks that I own. Previous: Recently purchased the COVR 1100 and tried to set it up with the app but the app could not detect the router even though I was connected to the router.

Sha. A. Nov 25, 2020

It's good for basic features of the router, but it still needs adding a few more above basic features like QoS and Firewall, Speed test support to routers which are capable to handle it, and a few others that common man would need access to, also it requires a bit of optimization since the app takes quite a bit of time to load to the router page, and then some more time to go to the page of router settings, So it is good, but not par with my expectations.

The WiFi management isn't the best. I restricted certain devices to certain times of the day but the restrictions don't work, and they can access the WiFi with ease. Also, it frequently fails to detect the various devices on the network, only showing 1 or 2 or none at all when multiple devices are connected.

Mik. Jan 31, 2021

Doesn't have any diagnostics and the notifications don't work. The device it controls is suspect also. Dropping signal every 30 minutes and takes three attempts to connect to at close range. The signal indicator has to be misleading since it reports full strength and yet can't see client names is counting number of clients correctly. For $120 I was hoping for connectivity improvement but it has just confused what is to blame for the intermittent loss of Internet. Work and school are from home.

The D-Link Wi-Fi app is for local access only. This app was supposed to be the designated replacement of several previous dlink apps, BUT the most important feature of remote management is NOT included. If it's only local, we don't really need a phone app -- we could simply turn on our tablet/laptop/computer and http to 192.168.0.1 to manage the router. Duh.

This apps and router is awful. It super slow and takes many tries to configure it out. I just bought it few weeks ago anf i hated it. Im switching back to my old router. Updates: im using it again but only as an extender. And i still hate it. You shouldnt have let dlink defend do the job. Thats apps is inaccurate and unreliable. Should have stick to older version where you can remove/block any users from this app.

Simple, brilliant - twice (had to re-establish our network - our fault). Only snag was being asked in app to scan a QR code, on screen, using my phone camera or QR app! How, for heaven's sake. Tried to copy/paste a screen capture, to no avail. Easier than via Ethernet connection to laptop.

Not very impressed. I like D-Link products and it surprises me that this app feels very basic. I had configured my router and thought the app should be able to sense it's configuration or ask questions about basic connectivity. Instead it is expecting an out of the box config. So if you have things tweaked the way you want you may want to evaluate your choice. I find it useful though. Thanks guys. I'm not sure if it was on the Android app but I saw it on the iPhone app so my bad. I missed it

App was great for about 2 weeks. We were able to set up profiles for the kids and give them schedules for internet time. Now it closes the program if we try to get into their profile to change their access. So it is useless. We have uninstalled and reinstalled. We have shut everything off and back on. Still not working.

Easy guide to install and use with router. Should have a more robust graphic organized interface with options for new and intermediate users. Drink routers are powerful. Using this on a Dlink extender was more difficult... tried several times to get optimal performance. Need to set up both systems from scratch.

Mostly a very easy and smooth installation. After changing my wifi pw and rebooting the modem, for some reason I was still able to connect to the modem with the saved old pw. Some users might not realize they have to tell their device to forget the wifi connection before reconnecting using the new password. Also, when asked to scan the QR code in the "QIG" it wasn't immediately obvious that meant "Quick Install Guide". Minor issues for me but could cost some people a few minutes.

This app is useless. It offers little to no functions and what it does offer is hit and miss. I am using a COVR-X 1873 with ethernet backhaul between the clients (extenders) and the master COVR (the one connected to the internet via the WAN port). In every other mesh system or wifi access point I have used, connecting an ethernet cable causes the device to preferentially use ethernet as the backhaul channel, as ethernet is more reliable and this eases congestion on the wifi which boosts client access speeds/bandwidth. But not these, oh no - it's a dark art with these things - there is a specific sequence of events that you have to follow to get a COVR extender to activate the ethernet backhaul to the COVR master - and it is almost certain that you will not accidently stumble across this sequence. Also the sequence is not included in any of the documentation available from D-link. I managed to get it working only because I contacted their chat support and together with a D-link support person we troubleshooted the issue in real time - to be fair, D-link support has been good. Finally - it wouldn't be so bad if this was the only issue but alas the firmware supplied on these things is CLEALRY NOT PRODUCTION ready. hardware wise they are nice looking, and pump out a strong signal but the FW instability and lack of any real controls in the GUI makes me wish I hadn't bought them.
