Dash Cam by Rand McNally

App keeps crashing, won't connect to the camera, so I'm unable to upload any videos! Can't even view them through the app!! I've Uninstalled, and reinstalled the app several times, and still having the same problems! Please do an update to fix the bugs! It worked well the first year, and now it sucks!

I'm updating this review to 5 stars. It now functions just fine with the Samsung S21+. Back to normal, connecting via wifi, saving whichever videos I prefer. I do not like the Samsung s21+ due to its price tag and storage is extremely limited. Samsung messed up not giving the s21+ an expansion slot for more memory. Bad phone Samsung. There are no ads in this app, or at least I never saw any.

The app used to work, only stays open when wifi is turned off; defeats the purpose of having connections via wifi if app shuts down as soon as you try to connect to wifi. I have the S20 Ultra, the app worked fine for a spell, now doesn't work at all. The camera works just fine! Also the map never worked due to needing to be connected to internet, which you cannot do if you're connected to the camera's wifi... Like others, I got this for the app/xfer features. Maybe looking at other brands soon

Only thing I don't like is when you are connected to the camera it has your internet disabled. other than that, works as advertised! Not sure why others give it a low rating or cannot figure it out. I'm running a Samsung S9+ as well. Other say it doesn't work but works on mine. Took about 5 minutes to install, configure and learn how to use it!!

I have a galaxy s7. I've had no problems with the app. Installed it and camera connected right away, stays connected and no problems after 15 days. Maybe they released a version with bug fixes for all the problems people seem to have had? Night video could be better but it's enough to see if you get hit. My only complaint is that there's a GPS and no speed stamp on the video. This could probably be fixed with an update since the device firmware is update-able. Otherwise it's all good.

As like all the rest, this app does not work with the Galaxy series of phones. spent better part of an hour with tech support to no resolve. I am tech savvy and tried multiple times to get this to work. IT DOESN'T! I like the camera, but it's useless without the full functionality of its companion app. I will be returning it. Rand McNally, you dropped the ball on this one.

3rd McNally device, they all failed within a year. This one seems to have a WiFi issue between the camera and app on Android 9 not allowing them to communicate. Either a hardware issue on the device, or software issue with the app or Android OS. My issue coincided with Android OS 8 to 9 update. Beyond the usual clear cache, factor and hardware resets, McNally's remaining solution was to RMA. 1 year warranty - keep your receipts! When the app worked, it was decent. Device still works and functions by itself or as a USB drive. Email support did not respond.

This allows a connection between your phone and the Dash Cam 500. However it ONLY allows a WiFi connection. Which disables the LTE and other network connections. You can either connect to the camera and have a dumb phone OR you can disconnect from the camera and have a Smartphone. You can't have both. You also cannot download updates for the camera since it requires a connection to the phone to do so.

Agreed as others have posted. This app use to work, but now, it connects to the camera, but will not show you any of the videos or pics on the camera. This really limits the usefulness of this camera. Additionally, the WiFi associated with this camera and app, also only works one way. It will not allow you to be connected to cellular and the camera wifi at the same time, meaning you'll have NO internet access, and NO cellular on your phone. Now your phone is useless as well!

Worked ok at first but now keeps disappearing and can not view camera live,photos,video says connected but shows a blank screen or disappears.. also the map of where your picture or video was taken was clunky and was never accurate.. not sure if that's an app issue or camera issue. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it was worse. Could not connect saying check wifi.. after hours of messing with it it finally connected still a black screen... very disappointed...😒😒😒☹ lack of updates poor

The camera has locked on to my GPS wifi and will not let go. This app crashes all the time, totally useless to be honest, it hasn't always been like this. There's absolutely no point in having this app on my phone, taking up space. Very disappointing!

Used to work, but no longer does. Fix the connection issues. Shouldn't have these issues with the price of the dash cam. Might as well stuck with nextbase from Best Buy or any of the Amazon specials.

I would have given it a 5, but out of the blue it just started crashing. Can connect to the cameras WiFi, but wont connect to the live feed or the videos anymore, all it does now is close the app when you try to open the app. Please fix this and i will Absolutely change to 5. I use a Samsung Note20 5g and the Samsung Tab S7+ 5g. Both were working great and now both are notta.

Rarely works when trying to link with a mobile device to download the videos. I have tried with my phone and 2 tablets. Always force closes the app it doesn't work. Keeps looping from force close window and won't allow send feedback option. Worthless if you can't download the videos to use them.

Name brand company and you can't even build a usable app. Keeps crashing when I open it, and before that, it wouldn't connect to download videos (even with wifi connected) absolutely terrible. I won't be getting another dash cam or GPS from Rand

I had the same problem about it connecting to for the first week then stopped. I Uninstalled it then reinstalled it a few time and it would open then closed quickly. But I renamed my video folder and I was able to install and stay open. I also denied it access to video and stuff. But once I tried to see videos it made me allow access to foldes. But it's open and stays open for now. Good luck 👍 hope this helps

App keeps crashing and there is no way to lock videos on the dashcam itself. Wishing I had not spent the money on this dashcam and put a little more money and got one that the manufacturer stands behind instead of having you try something and then when that doesn't work tell you that you are out of warranty. I'm done with Rand McNally products! Their tech support won't even respond to help figure out what the problem is!

App still doesn't work after second update to my phone. I contacted my service provider because you said the issue was on their end. Guess what? It isn't. It's on your end because your not keeping up with Android updates. My phone worked fine with the dashcam till the last 2 updates on my Pixel 3 XL. It your not going to update the app or dashcam. Then what's the point. Now I have 2 $180 pieces of junk. Thanks for wasting my money.

Better than the 300 but picture seems less clear. I'm giving 4 stars because as of yet I've not viewed it on my PC. I havent experienced the issues that other reviewers stated. The camera stopped recording once but that's because I had too many videos saved. I'd like to see more features like a trimming option for the companion app. But over all it's better than previous models and since I updated the sd to a 64 GB I havent had any issues.

The app crashes immediately on opening. After the update about 4 months ago nothing but crashes .. strangely it was working fine on BOTH my SAMSUNG S10+ 5G AND NOTE 20 for nearly 2 years . This is a RAND MCNALLY problem. Not a phone problem.

PLEASE FIX it keeps force stopping and have to keep taking out the SD card and put it into my phone or laptop to get the videos off of it. Yeah it still does the job where I can save them and see them better but the wifi works better. It won't even load passed where it says settings, gallery, live feed.

This app was working great. Until the last update. Now everytime I open it it stays up for 3 seconds then closes out. I've cleared cache, cleared data, and even Uninstalled/reinstalled it. And it's not staying up. And I can't find any support on how to get it to work.

The app works great on iPhone. Video and Picture quality is great for a dash cam. It can record up to 5 minute segments continuously throughout the day. That being said, the app is absolutely useless on Samsung products. Opening it will only result in the app immediately closing itself out no matter how many times you try. The app opens fine if you're not connected to the dash cam, but as soon as the wifi connects you to the dash cam, it reverts back to not working it at all and immediately shuts the app off. The developers of the app don't seem to interested in fixing this issue for Samsung customers. Having to use my laptop to access the dash cam for my employer. Want to thank the developers for making a great quality dash cam and also thank them for completely ignoring and refusing to help samsung users when it comes to them accessing the app. Real nice move there. Only paid $200 for you camera, can't even give me a working app to use the fuggin thing.

After a few times of pulling video to my phone from the cam, cam apparently stops interfacing with my phone through the app rendering it useless in the event I may ever need it to document an accident or incident. Basically wasted my money on the cam since the app stops working after a short period of time. Very disappointed!! Was using a Samsung Galaxy S9 when I got the cam, it worked at first then stopped. Upgraded to the S21 5G phone, same story, worked for a while, now stopped.

Was working fine until I tried to format a larger SD card. App keeps closing I tried uninstalling app and reinstalling multiple times but it keeps crashing . I'm using the Samsung galaxy A50. It's a POS don't bother with the app. I've emailed customer support and they will NOT respond back. Do not waste your time with this app. It's junk

I should have read these reviews before buying this dashcam. The sole reason I bought this one is because it advertised compatibility with the phone app. Works great for one day after that...... blank can't get the video to play can't load the videos on my phone nothing. Camera itself still works just not compatible with the app. Should have listened to my gut and not gotten a Rand McNally product. I'm so tired of having to replace a GPS every six months to a year yeah I should have known better

Only reason I got this dash cam is because it said you could use the app to get the videos. App will not work if wifi is turned on, but have to use wifi to connect to the dash cam. The mounting bracket for the dash cam has very limited range of motion with almost no side to side adjustment capabilities. If the connectivity problems With the app are not fixed I will be demanding a full refund for the dash cam due to false advertising.

App was working. Now every time I go to open the app it say (Dash cam by Rand Mcnally keeps stopping) and will not open. I've tried restarting my phone and turning power off and waiting 5 minutes before turning power back on several times. It's OK, but I think you went with the wrong technology to connect the phone to the camera. You should've used Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi direct. The issue is that when the phone connects to Wi-Fi, it automatically turns off mobile data. This is a problem.

I personally don't believe it's the app, my S20 did an update and afterwards is when I started having problems, I still have an S8+ that can only be used on wifi and the app still works flawlessly on that junk phone due to I believe no update. Just my 2 cents worth.
