DEAFCOM
- The Deaf Communications Assistant
This is a very simple application that will convert speech into readable text.

For a non-hearing or hard of hearing person, the application will allow faster communication with deaf persons. For deaf users, the software can assist in faster communication and may also be used as a useful tool when practicing your speech.

I would like to thank my friend Mitch Bergsma for the inspiration to write this useful tool.Be sure to check out his latest videos on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/micbergsma

This application requires access to internet for the Google Speech engine, data rates may apply.

Currently the only supported language is English.

This app is excellent, the buttons are big, clear and nice to used. It would be nice if talk session lasted for a minute rather than keep pressing. I also think "press to speak" is better at bottom and "waiting for speech" at top to enable one hand use of phone.

Very precise. I just want it to be able to capture longer statements. I have to keep pressing , press to speak button and it kind of interrupts the conversation flow.

Let's face it, many older people become hard of hearing, like my Mom. In addition, older people are not always app-saavy. This app is extremely simple to use. It doesn't pop up with a bunch of instruction pages, setting options, keyboards, etc. When you start the app, it starts straight into the minimalist screen where all is needed is a press on the "Press To Speak" button. I tried almost all of the (free) apps available in the Play Store for this purpose and most of them either didn't work consistently, or were too complicated to use for older people. If all you want to do is converse back and forth with someone who is hearing impaired, then this is the simplest app I could find. Wish list: Offline use. App doesn't appear to have been updated in several years (but still works). Could use a cleaner interface (but not more complicated)

I have installed and thrown away so many stupid "promising" applications for Deaf, but finally I have found one that delivers! Not only will it give my family a break from using Whiteboards to speak to me, but it will be ideal for doctor visits too! Thank you for FINALLY delivering a great app for Deafies like me :D

wanted to use this with my 95-year-old father-in-law, but it was too hard to maintain a consistent 'net connection. Otherwise worked OK

I can now communicate with my grand mother. Text is nice and large. There is a bug, when changing orientation the text is cleared. Also would be nice if I could edit text.

My hearing aid recently broke and I can barely understand anyone without it, now thanks to this I can communicate more easily with my family, who are all hearing. I will definitly reccomend this to my friends, thanks!

It was very useful. My grandpa's hearing aid wasn't working, so this was very helpful. I just wish you could change the letter size, maybe with the volume control could be even nicer.

Does not seem to do anything on android 4.4.4, the button appears to do nothing.

Please give us an adjustable font selection! Even on my tablet the font is too small for some to read, and then I would give 5 stars!!! App is simple & to the point.😊

Have you heard of deaf helper, because it was awful and this is exactly like it. I'm deaf and this didn't help me or my deaf family. Mom, dad, brother, aunt, best friends, no one. So I suggest you don't get it
