Decent up to a point but several disappointing aspects. App has frozen four nights' running. Support link from website didn't work. CSV file can take hours to upload sometimes. The stated time intervals between noise readings of 0.2s is inaccurate and the time isn't stated, hence no way of cross referencing to the audio file. Purpose of the other file .dat unknown. No support response to my email. My Android version hadnt changed- see their prompt below. Expensive and sub standard.
Worked great right out of the box. Really capable but intuitive interface I was able to use within the first 10 minutes. No comment as to the accuracy ad I have not been able to compare it to a certified unit. Love it.
Excellent functionality and layout! I just used it for one specific thing. If I used it more frequently I would absolutely pay the $3.99 monthly subscription.
One must not trust apps like this more than common sense. Especially on Android, decibel apps just won't be accurate, especially not across devices and at higher volumes. On my S20 it seems to peak at 113db no matter how loud the sound I expose it to is. While these shortcomings should be more clearly signposted in the app, it's more accurate than other apps at higher volumes. In context, good but limited app.
Sublime, Superb, Audio App. So far the best that I have installed. A professional studio quality app. Does just about everything - all very competently. Love it.
Excellent app with lots of usefull features, and it' great to see an SPL app with selectable weighting . Unfortunately, the C weighted option is only available if you upgrade, and although a lot of work has gone into this app, the monthly subscription rate is just too high - an option to make a 'one off' purchase would be better.
I am a sound engineer. While the functions seem useful in this app, the subscription model is not a good way to go. Save yourself some money in the long run and buy professional equipment once. Also a smart phone microphone losses accuracy at over 90 dB's, due to the fact these microphones are made for voice. I would be willing to pay $20.00 one time to purchase the app to support the developers in their efforts. There are some situations where this app would be useful and handy.
I've just been to the hospital audiology department with my wife and asked them to calibrate this application. It was more or less spot on, just a tiny fraction out, which adjustment was made. That it was so very close is testament to how good this is. Since seeing how loud ambient noise is, not least on the train and just walking around London, I've taken to wearing ear plugs to protect my hearing. This has also proved useful persuading people to turn down music in places. Great application!
It's pretty spot on. Out of the box it was about 3 or 4 decibels off. The running graph is very nice if you have to stop to look at the result of your test. The ability to save your tests is very handy and it's ready to go immediately after installation as it requires little initial setup. Its a good application; I'll definitely continue to use it.
It's incredibly accurate, as long as you're holding the active mic upwards (away from your palm blocking sound). The problem with that is although they advertise "portrait and landscape view", there is ONLY portrait view, and no support for rotating when your phone is held upside down - making it almost impossible to read when holding it in a way that gives it accurate readings. If you advertise rotation support, then actually implement that feature please.
Subscribed for auto save data yet it still had to be done manually, record timing manually. Although the settings had the option of keeping the screen open yet the screen still shut off automatically. Would have to screen record to be safe (the apps obviously kinda scam& cheated the user for a big money). Maybe good in graphic & visual (well appearance) but it's dysfunctional.
With a bit of math, and calibration, this is a freaking awesome app for all the things I've learned about my soundsystem!
Used 92% of my battery (out of all installed apps) each day that I had it. I checked the battery usage by app in App Settings after I noticed my phone wouldn't hold a charge for even half a day. I guess it keep using your battery even when backgrounded. Maybe it should be more clear on the screen, like instructions or a demo walk-through would help for new users.
Understand the need for Ads. That's OK, but taking over device even when sound is OFF and playing full screen with audio is NEVER OK. There are lots of private situations that this is inappropriate. But, also, I contacted the developer and - no responses. So, I suggest you look elsewhere.
$47.88 a year ongoing seems compleately unreasonable. Maybe $3.99 one time. A subscription for a sound meter is just rediculous to begin with.
Brilliant piece of work - the frequency meter and the analogue dial the other info on the screen complement each other; nicely done !
As long as you keep it calibrated each time you use this app, it's a handy tool for work if you deal with locating noise issues in machinery or locating the direction of an outdoor noise source.
There are free alternatives without ads.
Scam. I tried to purchase the full version through this version. This app charges the equivalent of micro transactions to get features or remove ads. None of that applies towards the pro version, which costs less than all the micro fees. Do not pay anything towards this version. If you want this app just buy Pro version outright. I want my money back for this waste.
I use it to measure sound when I using speaker, lately I think it's too loud, but its only 70 db.
The app is ok but I don't why it is claimed to be one of the few reliable apps with pre calibration. There is no such thing as pre calibration. Each phone model has a different mic and different sensitivity and calibration will need to be performed by the user. Maybe it's a marketing issue.
I have downloaded and installed five different sound meter apps. I'm well aware that this is not comparative to professional calibrated and dedicated equipment. But of the 5 I have installed 4 competitors of them showed on average in a constant noise environment, e.g. inflight airliner passenger cabin, approximately the same value of around 74dB +/- 3dB. This app, Decibel X however, was the most inaccurate and way off measuring 105-108dB!!! IMPOSSIBLE! Useless inaccurate GARBAGE!
As a casual audiophile this isn't for me, but I see the potential for the serious. The monthly subscription is the biggest bump for me. That being said, this app has great tools. A sound level meter that is tunable to your device's mic. A dosimiter with multiple international standards. It can even run in the background. For the right person this is a gem, but I am not that person. I would, however, 1 time pay for an ok version with ok features.
