Deficit Hawk (US Fed Budget)
If you are sick and tired of politicians negotiating our future behind closed doors, then take matters into your own hands and fix the problem yourself.
This app lets you make over one hundred spending cuts and tax increases, all calculated by the Congressional Budget Office (a non-partisan office of Congress). Do you think taxes on the rich should be increased? Do it. It won't eliminate the deficit. How about increasing the Social Security retirement age? Not enough either.
You make the tough choices. Then when you've got it figured out send a report to your friends or to your elected representatives in Congress.
Whether you are Republican, Democrat, Independent or Tea Party; whether you are young or old, black or white, tall or short it won't be easy. But it's not impossible and our elected officials need to hear from us in a more meaningful way than just shouting at them in town hall meetings.
All the data presented in this app is from the CBO. There's no partisan spin here, just real facts on what it will take.

The biggest problem with this app and D.C. itself is the market isn't a static entity. Logic dictates if you raise taxes you collect more money; but the market of more fluid in reality. It has been proven time and time again. Cutting taxes increases revenue by producing growth. Raising taxes slows the economy and decreases revenue. Austrian Economics wins over Keynes Economics every time!
Good concept but its very limited on cuts. You can't cut any programs and you have to raise taxes to break even... needs to be more open to cuts and have effects of cuts and taxes. IE less corporate taxes creates more jobs so payroll taxes are impacted etc.
I love the simplified introduction to a complex matter. Reading the Congressional Budget Office's proposals has never been easier, or their long-term effects more clearly understood!
How about eliminating certain federal agencies and giving them to the states. .ie Dept of Education ..using the 10th amdt. also, where is the cutting of foreign aid to different countries. ..how about where we could be by eliminating the "progressive income tax" with a flat tax of 10% or even zero while that will stimulate the economy as well as that huge money pit of the IRS could be 100% eliminated.. cutting agencies like the TSA , ..... lets focus this app on cutting programs and not on raising taxes...
No updates with modern analysis. And huge sections of the CBO's options are excluded. There's reports on their recommendations and options monthly and this app ignores 100% of them. Developers are too flaky to update with meaningful data.
I was really excited about this, but not enough cuts. If you choose ALL cuts, you still have almost $3T in debt. That's just not realistic.
Hell yea tax the rich and take away their tax breaks too! They sent jobs abroad and bring in illegals too! Leave the poor alone! Great app!
Ignore the fools who say it has liberal agenda. Forward your plan to your congress persons, and tell them to stop fighting and get to work!
Not good only addresses taxes. No real options. Waste of time.
Would like a more detailed version of this app. If nothing else, it ahows that generatng a surplus os possible.
This is a great app! Maybe future versions could offer the user to forward ideas generated by this app to their member(s) of Congress.
I can't say I hate or like it, because I have not tried it out yet. BUT I DO KNOW THIS,("IF U DO NOT VOTE FOR MR.DONALD J.TRUMP U R NOT A USA BORN AND U NEED TO BE PUT OUT OF THE USA POINT BLANK!!!!!!")
Wish it had more choices that represent both sides of the major political game instead of the liberal view!

Needs more choices for cuts but no app could list every instance of Government pork.

Raised all taxes and selected all cuts and have 9 trillion in the black! But, not getting reelected next term :( hahaha
Neat but method to address items is limited. In most cases the legislation is poorer contrived to begin with.

Who wrote this? Obama? Not nearly enough hard cuts options (ie, kill welfare). Their idea of "spending cuts" are actually tax increases. Stupid!
@JVS - The choices are from the Congressional Budget Office. We didn't make them up. If you have another source of data you want included email us.
It's easy to think about the deficit in a partisan way, but this app shows how difficult of a problem it is to solve without cuts AND more taxes.
I won my argument by using this app!
But the main point of the app is to show how deep we are in debt and that tough decisions must be made. Neither obama nor romney are interested in these.
This is a add taxes only app. Nice but not practical
You cannot ask us or say its difficult. Harder then you think when all the fiscal,earmarks, fed. Agencies , and all the other things that can play in to this that isn't there as a tool to use. On the other hand it is a solid app with great opportunitys and is something that should be tweaked and implemented as an option for our govern and unitiy instead of such a division that keeps on growing
