DERE EVIL EXE: Meta Horror Pixel Platformer

DERE EVIL EXE is both a terrifying thriller with a gripping story and an unorthodox retro platformer with unique puzzles and obstacles.

In DERE EVIL EXE, you step into the tiny shoes of a silent hero named 'Knightly'. Knightly must jump, run, and manipulate environments in order to survive the heart-racing journey through a stunning pixel art world.

Within surreal structures lurk dangerous creatures known as 'corruptions'. They take the form of their creator's greatest fears. Their creepy creator, sporting a cunning visage of cheerfulness, hides in plain sight as she watches her prey fall deeper into her traps.

Good game, but platforming is too precise for a mobile game. It is even worse on the saws after the checkpoint in level 3, the first set of saw is just luck, since the control on a touch screen do not allow that kind of jumps. The rest is awesome

It is a great game. The mechanics, gameplay, story, all of them are great. The one thing I didn't like about the game is it's not perfectly compatible with controllers. Yes it is controller-support but if you click jump it will double jump in an instant even though you just clicked the "A" button once, I would really appreciate it if you could fix this because I can perform a lot better with a controller in platformer games. Anyways, both endings are great, I'm glad I got the good one.

Maybe you never intended for this to be controller compatible, but i found this game while researching games that work with a controller, and this game absolutely does not 😅 you can't double jump using a controller, and the directional stick gets stuck constantly, so you just move randomly (i genuinely thought it was intentional at first, like aide was trying to kill me)

Was expecting something much harder and absolutely evil but really it wasn't that bad. One of the easiest but also most enjoyable games. Had me hooked in from the get go with the pacing of the story. Wish there was more to play, thanks for the experience. I rarely ever write reviews but this one deserves that and more.

This is AWESOMEE!! the gameplay is so good but soo frustrating at the same time and when someone said ''quitting sounds so good right now'' i can't help but agree, BUT! the story is sooo good, and man i love the characters, and i love how everything seems to be in my hands, and as an indesicive person, i'm glad i got a good ending.

This game was amazing, it terrified me at every turn, the ads were a little annoying but that just means I gotta get good. I really enjoyed the scares and the mechanics of the game.

Game's fun, and has potential. but is a tad too difficult for my taste. You pretty much have to be exactly perfect to survive, and often have to repeat difficult sections due to unforseen future hazards. I gave up around the midpoint of level 3. Just wasn't having fun anymore repeating the same section over and over. It's a shame the story was getting pretty interesting too. If the game was a bit more lenient I'd rate higher. The spooks are pretty nice too.

This was a very short game. I wasn't sure if the ending was really the ending or if I was missing something, but it appears to actually be over. I finished in about half and hour. The graphics are nice, jumpscares are fun but not too scary, and the story is simple, meta, and easy to enjoy. I've seen complaints about seeing too many ads, but I only saw one. I think I died maybe 30-40 times? The difficulty does not scale slowly; rather it starts way too easy and then after a certain point, spirals into Meat Boy levels of difficulty. I don't mind this; I enjoy challenging platformers. I enjoyed the use of multiple mechanics. I think my personal favorite in this one was the swipe-to-move in the later part of the game. It was neat to see how the cannons were implemented to be activated with the jump button and required sharp attention to make sure it was aimed where I wanted it to avoid shooting myself. I think my biggest beef with this game is the controls in the d-pad sections. I found myself often going right when I meant to go left, which often meant instadeath. This is a complaint I have with many games featuring the on-screen directional pad, rather than something unique to this game. To the dev: Clever, well-made and very enjoyable, would love to see more levels. I enjoyed playing your game, but you might want to double check level 2, it might have played you. 😉 A solid 4 out of 5 that could be 5 out of five if the controls were a little easier to use.

This game is FANTASTIC, however... The one thing I absolutely hate, and I assume every gamer does as well are the controls. Who doesn't make the d-pad so you can keep your finger on the screen and move left & right? You have to pick your finger off the screen in order to move backwards. This is a very very poor mechanic for a platformer. Having a smooth dpad is a MUST for platformers. Please change.

The controls for the game were absolutely frustrating for a platformer, from beginning to end, but I suppose that's kinda the point. Sometimes it feels like the directional controls were too big to accurately change directions when necessary while other times they feel too small and I end up not pressing a button at all. I also hated how colliding with a moving platform seemed to cancel my double jump sometimes. It's a fantastic game otherwise, and I highly recommend it in spite of the issues with controlling the player.

I just finished the game, and I have to say, I was extremely impressed by the storyline, terrifying atmosphere, sequential gameplay, and NES-style difficulty. For anyone who loves Inception-like, brain-twisting stories and puzzles, this is right up your alley! (A game *within* a game?...) To be honest, though, this game is not for young kids. Besides being brutally difficult at times, it also has some jumpscares that could really freak out a 5- to 9-year-old. All the puzzles can be figured out (eventually), but the controls sometimes mess up the timing of jumps. All-in-all, I went into this with no expectations and was met with edge-of-your-seat intensity, some jumps, and a satisfying overall experience. Would definitely recommend!

I really like this game, but the placement of the controller hurt my hands so much I had to stop. As others have said, also having to pick up my thumb to move backwards or forwards made it exceptionally difficult on certain things, where I seemed to be relying on blind luck rather than my timing or learning the movements and patterns of obstacles. Very challenging and fun though, and I didn't feel overwhelmed by ads. Nice job!

Unique and stands out from the crowd, but... physics and controls need a bit more refinement. Regarding the story it was decent to some point but for how much it has to offer it took too much time, and the ending was...meh, nothing wasn't expected. But in general I can call this a true platformer, the level design ranged from "Ok" to "Great"... that's why I wish to a see from you more platformer games that emphasis on the level design and the length of the game more than the story.

Meta and witty stuff can only go so far. That too when done at a very basic level. The game doesn't give you any freedom at all, which meta games usually do, and forces linear story line. There are two types of bugs and glitches. One is skyrim glitches where the game is so good you don't care, and one is the regular glitches where they are extremely annoying. This game has the latter. Patchy walking which stops randomly, odd hit boxes and weird edge interactions can build up over multiple tries. And there will certainly be multiple attempts because the game forces you to die in some circumstances. Half of the score is for the music, which was amazing. A quarter is for the no platform area which was rather nice a touch, the rest is for the overall game design.

I don't really have a lot of space on this device, so I downloaded this game as a short platformer to pass the time by, and didn't have any idea what to expect. The ehole experience was excellent, the music, the platforming and puzzle solving. A.I.D.E.'s robot voice did get a little annoying, but the choice was understandable and respectable. A very strong meta game experience, and although, the fourth stage got frustrating at points, I must say, it was SIGNIFICANTLY better than I'd expected. And the ending was nice... Granted I haven't seen every ending--yes, spoilers, it seems there are more-than-one. And the meta moments (jumpscares included) were excellently crafted. I expected a cheesy, spoopy game, but ended up with a fun story, instead.

i absolutely love this game! controls are simple and the style is very appealing. Although i haven't finished the game yet, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I only have one issue. Aide really seems to be glitching out. When I start up the game, aide will start talking as normal. But then, upon choosing a level, her voice will start again, and continues on while i play. she will play the audio used for level one (tutorial audio) while i play level three. please could you help me fix this issue?

So, this game is super good. The controls are fantastic. I especially like how you can control your character mid-jump. There are also a lot of clever jumping maneuvers too. The story seems to be a Portal type of vibe, with the questionable AI support. Love it so far. But beware, this game is HARD. It is a very challenging game. But in a good way. It's obvious they're going for a classic feel, including the difficulty. Only in the 2nd lvl. Will take me a minute to complete. But still great.

Most awesome game that I've played in a while! I really like how the ambience of the game was. How interactive it is to the player. The jump scares are awesome (at first try). Only thing I want to point out is the controls and the glitch for the sound. Although the ending was kinda too easy. Was expecting to be much much harder. It was kind of a let down being traumatized by previous level then the finale is kinda easy. 8/10

I REALLY want this to be a five star game, and it's so close. Everything about it is amazing except the controls, and unfortunately that ruins it. They're unresponsive, and in a game like this where one mistake cam mean so much the controls have to be perfectly responsive. Sometimes you press jump and nothing happens, sometimes you press run forward/backwards and nothing happens. This game warns you that it's infuriatingly hard, but the hardest boss shouldn't be the controls. Such an amazing game wasted on a bad UI/UX.
