The latest update released on March 2, 2022, Version 6.10, hangs on launch and eventually crashes. Behavior seen on multiple devices and with the same update for many of its companion apps for sister publications. So much for the subscription I had just purchased prior to this update... Even before this update, ads frequently hid or obscured content above, below or otherwise near the ads, necessitating creative scrolling in an attempt to reveal the content.

App will not load for the last 3 weeks, spinning wheel and then crashes. Horrible. Uninstalling... See ya!!

This app used to work well. Now it won't open. What's the sense of having a subscription you can no longer use. Someone needs to fix this ASAP.

App hasn't worked in over a week. I have a paid subscription and can't access app. Fix please now.

For a paper that increased their price dramatically, the whole Gannett system is awful. The paper is 100% ads now.

This app used to be good but it keeps getting worse all the time. Things like not being able to scroll if you touch the area of an ad are annoying, but now they have gone too far. It's fine that there are some articles for subscribers only... but when they send out a news alert, but you can't view it unless you subscribe, that is too much. Or they send out alerts on stories that were published hours ago. Etc. This app is no longer a useful source for news. Too bad they ruined it.

Great app, less sports plz... I really appreciate the local news and the in-depth articles. On my landing page, half to more than half of the articles relate to sports. I don't care about sports and I really just like to see news headlines. It would be nice if there was a feature to eliminate a section from where I land.

Once I turned off notifications it will not open it just flashes Google please take note!

Signed up for a subscription through the app, and my bank records and Google Play both indicate the transaction went through, but still didn't have subscriber access. Tried emailing them and they said they couldn't find my "Detroit News" account - even though my email asked about the issue with my Detroit Free Press account. Subsequent emails went unanswered. Call center support person couldn't find my account despite apparently checking their systems for several minutes. Unsubscribed.

Every time I open the app, the screen starts flashing

Horrible now, doesn't work. I loved this app but the last few weeks it won't accept my password and no options to change it. A call to the DFP help resulted in nothing (speaking with an English as a second language support person). The website is HORRIBLE! Tiny print on my phone with no option to enlarge. GET THIS CORRECTED!

App works great, the problem is that on Nov 3rd they took 3 months payment out of my bank account on the same day. When I called they claim to only see one payment but my bank begs to differ. After three phone calls and 3 different promises to reimburse ....nothing. I canceled subscription. BEWARE, VERY SHADY!

I enjoyed catching up on news but recently I cannot get into app. It opens and immediately shuts down. I tried uninstalling and then reinstall but it did not fix problem. I eventually canceled my subscription.

The app works well and I especially like the ability to change it to dark mode. The opinion pieces are generally written by leftist authors so I generally stick to reading the sports section and financial information.

App is now officially horrible. It constantly stops, and I'm getting "pp stopped notifications even when I'm not using it. Very disruptive.

As of Dec 30, this App disappeared and I can no longer connect with the Free Press. What happened. Suddenly, I was no longer able to connect with the news!!

You've gotten to where more than half the articles are limited to subscribers. So your free app is turning into pay to view. Thankfully there are plenty of other options that are free. I've felt you've been a SCAB paper since the last strike and haven't bought you paper since the last strike

I read articles daily. The content changes frequently. My only criticism is that it is so similiar in content to two other papers; the Detroit News and USA Today.

Dumping it. All the good stories are for subscribers only. I'm retired and I'm not spending a dime to read them. There's a lot of other sources out there to read about my Detroit sports teams.

When I paid with my Google Play account thinking I was subscribing to access to the digital version of the paper but it appears not, so I have an account with Free Press but I'll have to pay again to be considered a Subscriber. Come on...really?

even after downloading for offline reading, it longer works in airplane mode. cleared cache, removed and reinstalled, Nothing works. same issue w Det News app.

Didn't work as described. I made two calls to the assistance line and they couldn't help although they did promise to check and call back. They never called back. I ended up cancelling and requested a refund which they have denied.

Very poor site. Can't find news articles! Where do I find Local, State, Regional, National and International news. You've ruined this paper. I will cancel my subscription shortly if this is not corrected.

Most of the time you can NOT click on a specific article. It opens the first article only. As a paying subscriber, I am forced to rely on the web version for news.

The Freep online is perfect! Quickly loads and opens with no, zero, nada, problems. Highly recommended.

Hate hate hate the new app update. Use to love reading articles. Now I need to pay to read articles. What's the point in an app if I need to pay to read it. Or do you want all your app users to delete the app and buy a paper. Of course you do this makes you more money.

Too much sports news. There is very little national or world news. I am not crazy about having to go to USA Today (or any other news source) for this material. The Free Press used to be a great morning paper. You wouldn't know it from this app.

I follow 'hard' news, and this app works very well for my needs. Can't comment on other aspects, but as for straight reading of articles, the Freep app is great.
