A very good multilingual dictionary for those studying how to write and interpret foreign language. However it has no pronunciation, which makes it hard to use when travelling and conversing to foreigners. Also cannot handle any complex sentences so it's not perfect but otherwise the app has fantastic range of synonymic words and many different languages to choose between. Still a better learning tool than duolingo.
I have only had the app for a few weeks, but I have found it quite handy. I particularly like that the dictionary gives many examples in excerpts from parallel texts in the two languages involved in the translation. I also like that the dictionaries can be downloaded for offline use. I am having some trouble getting G-board's glide-typing feature to work in the app, though. Also, it would be nice to see more languages available. But, in what it does have, the app does well. It is quite good.
The app is a great dictionary and word help. I have been using it to learn languages and do my assignments. For each word, it gives different possibilities for it's meaning and make this clear to understand with the use of the word in examples. It also lets you hear the word pronunciation in different speaks. (Since I'm learning portuguese, it is very useful for me to hear the word in european and brazilian portuguese.) The app UI is also simple and easy to use. Doesn't make it cumbersome.
I've mostly only used the French dictionary for this app since I dabble in studying the language from time to time. I really like that it provides a pronunciation for a good number of words and that it has an offline option (as a separate download). My only critique is the UI; I feel that it could be less bland and maybe just a tad more intuitive; something akin to SpanishDict (a great Spanish dictionary). A dark mode would be fantastic as well. Other than that, it's a solid French dictionary.
Practical tool for translating but more importantly, checking context and common usage with many example sentences. I like the offline feature and ability to use in-app but the in-app feature doesn't always work. Probably related to the other app's settings but I'd love a feature which could somehow override this or work in a different way.
I love this dictionary and use it daily. If I could request for one additional function, it would be to save words. Sometimes when I'm on the go and look up words, it's gone by the time I can note it down or when I want to search for another word, then unfortunately there's no history available. I think that would be extremely practical and hope the team would consider it.
bug report: when trying to enter a word, it does strange things to my virtual keyboard (I use gboard): the microphone that I use all the time for voice typing disappears! I use as an auxiliary input method handwriting, and that is replaced by keys. this is release strange and I have never ever seen any other app doing this. could you please fix it?
Great app! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to learn vocab. Especially for free. I love the offline function. If you wanna improve your app even more, then I recommend you to add a fullscreen mode. For now it is just 16:9 and it is still great. But the smartphones are horizontally smaller now and vertically bigger than in the past. The app seems pretty small and gives it a look of a regular picture in the gallery.
Outstanding service with a great, ad-free app. With that said, it's not optimized for modern aspect ratios - my phone is 18.5:9 and I have a black bar at the bottom of the home screen. Also, the main menu should not keep prompting me to show translations in other apps. I don't want to; I open Linguee when I need it. A dark theme would be very welcome as well.
It's a great application as far as I've been using it. However, one small negative point is that in languages that conjugation of verbs are important, it doesn't give alternative examples for them. If you search for an exact verb conjugated or not, it only shows the exact verb you typed in. I think it would be useful if it also gives different sentences using different forms of the verb. Otherwise, it's a great app.
The latest update is a welcome relief. The font is larger and easier to read and the options across the bottom of the screen are a good addition. . Apart from the small, hard to read font, this is one of the best dictionaries around. No stupid gimmicks, just a comprehensive dictionary / lexicon, and ad free! . But please add view and theme settings. I would also like to see the ability to keep all your history, and make certain words favourites.
It's an amazing app: free, no ads, offline, excellent content. But there are certain bugs that render it hard to use. Sometimes when I try to see the history the app freezes and slows down my phone and I have to force shut it. Or sometimes after doing a query and press the back button to return to the home screen, it just cycles and goes over and over from the app home screen to all the queries I did. Please fix it because it's the best dictionary out there
Great dictionary, love the translation popup when you copy text to your clipboard in other apps. Makes it super quick to read the news in my second language. Only qualm: the history fills up fast and crashes when I open it. There should be a limit on the number of entries in there. It would also be great if you could add a way to export history, would make a great way to create vocabulary lists. Thanks! ♡
EN-FR: Great for impromptu translations I need to come up with in my job. The text samples help me determine if I'm using a term or expression that's best suited to what I want to say. EN-DE: I use this for fun; I don't speak German but like to explore it. I like the pronunciation feature. Room for improvement: The text highlighting is often inaccurate. I wish the translation excerpts could be separated according to region; France vs Quebec can vary a lot in how words are used.
Linguee did a great job on this translation dictionary app. It is very useful, to include the examples of translations in context. Sometimes the highlights are off, but most are good. The offline dictionaries are a real bonus. If you'd like feedback to improve the product, I recommend you add a feedback button so when people see something incorrect they can tap it and note how to fix it. I'm giving 5 stars to thank Linguee for a great product! Keep up the good work! You're helping people. :)
Best multi lingual dictionary, app and online desktop, that I've found yet. Very rarely is there a word that doesn't have an entry (online mode only, offline isn't great), most also have some kind of pronunciation too. The copy function for use outside of the app is the most useful part, you just need to copy the word and a small notification gives you a translation. Adding word frequency information would make this app completely brilliant, it's the only thing missing for me right now.
It has no adds, has great offline dictionary, it's light so I can safely minimize and bring it back on knowing that it won't close. The interface is minimalistic and gorgeous, I absolutely love the app and hope that it will remain free of ads. I use it for learning languages and so long it has proven to be a perfect tool for me, keep up the good work! As for the wishes - it would be nice to have Russian to German dictionary.
Amazing! another one of the best apps I've seen and used from the app store. The example phrases it offers when you search a word are incredibly helpful! I can see this app helping so many. People who travel, people in international business scenarios, the list is endless. This app is truly indispensable. Thank you for the obvious love and care put into it
This app is rather good, i use it to look up english words. there's one point tho: the search parameters are not 100% correct, for example: im typing in a word, before i finish the last letter it shows me the result, including the one im looking for. but when i typed the last missing letter correctly, the search can't find it anymore. just 1 example
I use it every day now that I have moved to Portugal and especially appreciate that it allows you to select European or Brazilian pronunciation. However, I give it only 4 stars because of one really annoying design decision. If anyone from Linguee reads this: REMOVE THE LANGUAGE SELECTION DROPDOWN NEXT TO THE "x" BUTTON IN THE SEARCH BAR. Like me, an English speaker trying to learn Portuguese, the vast majority of your users are surely only going between two languages. The top item in the menu is already "Select Language" so I'd argue that the extra dropdown to the right of the search bar is redundant. It is so frustrating to keep getting the language selection overlay when I just want to clear the previous search.
It is perfect to find example of the use of words in their context, helping to understand the meaning of them. I use it for German , the only doubt I often have is the proper translation to English..sometimes they have completely wrong and different meanings and do not match at all..wondering about the accuracy of the texts!!! Not everybody looking for translation had a basic knowledge of the languages , so I would suggest a double check! For the rest is absolutely great
One of the best German-English dictionaries I've used. It's quick, has a clean, responsive interface, and has a great selection in its lexicon. I love the comparative usages pulled from online. Real-world examples are a great help. The offline dictionaries are functional and readily support SD cards. The only improvement I can imagine would be to include conjugations and delineations.
This app is very good. I use it to assist me with learning German. The list of words is extensive and includes many of the different meanings and examples that each German word may have. I also have the dictionary loaded on my phone for situations when I don't have a cellular signal or Wi-Fi. There are no annoying ads with this app either. I love it!
It's very helpful and gives a good overview about the different meanings of words even if it is colloquial language. If you want you can also download single dictionaries as you want to use it offline. It's the best translation app I had so far - the only thing I'm missing from time to time is that it can translate a whole sentence. But besides that it's just great! :D👌
Very good app, but has stopped working when you highlight a word in another app and press copy. This is a very useful feature. It stopped working after an android update today. That update seems to have added a Google translation link when you highlight a word in another app. I wonder whether Google has blocked the operation of Linguee to force people to use their service which of course is not as good. I hope the developers will read this and make the appropriate enquiries.
Extraordinary tool for professional interpreters. Vast selection of context-appropriate examples available. I especially appreciate the downloadable dictionaries for when fast Internet connections aren't available but rapid rendering is required. The auto-paste at open feature is a great timesaver as well. Simply copy the word you want to translate and open the app, the copied content will autofill in the search bar, saving valuable seconds. An invaluable tool w/ an intuitive interface
If you only use one dictionary app, make it Linguee. It's really useful, clear, precise and highly efficient with context allowing you to set out the meaning of a word or an expression or whatever you are looking for... I keep on learning more and more vocabulary and it's helping me on my prononciation too.
