The database is great - it's the interface that ruins this app. Each word in the hair-trigger thesaurus links to a new list, and the back button exits to the home screen. The only way to get back to the word you were on is to swipe all the way back through your history and hope the overly sensitive links don't hurt you again. It's distracting, which absolutely shouldn't happen with a tool meant for keeping you in a creative flow. Please fix.

Text-to-Speech app no longer works. Other than that it's a great app to have. Very useful for writers.

The text to speech feature on this app no longer works. Making it very difficult to look up words with this app.

05/17/22 Advertising ID Permission 08/11/21 New: Run a foreground service and run at startup. Because I *need* this to launch at startup? Why are so many developers doing this? I imagine it's to collect info all the time?

The audio keeps stating that network access is required for this feature. I have network access, please fix this. Same problem a year later, fix please.

Purchased this app several years back. Worked great. This morning I tried to use it, and the app would not allow me to use it unless it was updated. 🤨 1 star until this returns back to normal. If I want to update or not should be my problem. No reason why an update should be pushed on me. MY PHONE, MY CHOICE.

Would have rated app higher if it had wildcard search. To get an idea of what that looks like see Flow Simulation's Dictionary app.

On the original version of the page, it displayed at the top concise text for commonly used meaning. so that you don't have go down to the full definition. Recently, they removed that. Instead, now every page displays a useless large-font title "Collegiate Definition". By doing further research, it turns out that these concise text are from learner's dictionary which they now separately charge. I understand they need revenue to support the app. I will also understand if they adopt annual subscription model. I don't mind purchase the learner's dictionary. But it would be very inconvenient to look up a single word from two different apps.

The best dictionary available. It's easy to use, has a clean interface, and accepts both type and voice queries. It also contains word quizes to help strengthen your vocabulary. As well as a "Word of the Day" vocabulary builder. In General, this is a fantastic dictionary/thesaurus. Oh, did I mention, it also has a thesaurus with it? The Premium version is worth every penny, I recommend purchasing that straight away after installing. One more thing worth mentioning; this app NEVER crashes.

Like it in general, love the built-in brain teasers, but not happy with it's lack of intuitive behaviour when entering a potential word for lookup. I have a brain injury so often can't remember the spelling of a word I might have used five minutes prior. So often I just want to use a dictionary so I can check the spelling of a word. But not with this as it is too literal - can't just start a word and have a list of potentials pop up. And if you spell it incorrectly - no results at all. Too bad.

This is a must-buy for dictionary fans. It's a great companion for reading and writing on-the-go. It has a responsive search engine and comprehensive definition of words. It works offline too! There are other dictionary apps with more favorable features, but this one is organized and easy to use. Having it sure beats carrying around a pocket-sized book!

I have enjoyed the Merriam-Webster app for years. I think it is well designed; I find it quite easy to use. Just one thing I'd like to see added: better sharing options. Share a screenshot? Share definition or link in text messages? How about tweets! Copy link to clipboard? :-) I like to recommend the app, and I think more sharing would help increase its use. Thanks, Merriam-Webster!

The update ruined this app. It looks digusting now and unreadable. It never needed a fix in the first place! It was perfect as it was!!! I get it tho change is good but sometimes it isn't and in this instance it isn't. Please devs I know you guys must have worked hard making the new layout but please just revert it or at least give us the option to use the old layout. The only feature it needed was night mode.

Edit: FIXED. FIVE STARS. The app started getting very (VERY) slow at loading definitions since the last update. It's on the order of 15-20 sec. There is no excuse for this ... I could open Chrome and google the word and get a definition faster than M-W Premium is retrieving definitions. It's strange to me because I believe a) definitions are stored offline, and b) prior to update the app was quick and five-star excellent.

I have been using this app for years with no issues. Now suddenly when I open the app I am getting a spinning circle and the word "loading" but definition does not appear! I have to close app and try again. Sometimes it will load and most of the time it does not. Once I just left the app open with the circle turning and it took 5 minutes for the definition to load! If I turn off my internet connection and open the app then the definition loads immediately! Developers you have a problem! Fix pls

This is an amazing app and an incredible companion for those who like to read. It helps me tackle more difficult texts and increase my vocabulary. One suggestion I have is being able to create groups of words looked up. That way I can group words I looked up from a particular book. That would be an amazing feature. Thanks for this essential app

While not as complete as the Unabridged edition from Paragon when they were licensed to distribute, the addition of the thesaurus is handy sometimes. This edition appears to lack a complete list of entries, alphabetically arranged or otherwise, akin to having the book in my hands. Maybe it's not a requested feature by the majority any longer and I'm just an old GenX person out of touch with reality.

Great Content, lacking interface It sometimes takes a long to load a meaning of a word, which is annoying because that does not happen on iOS. I also use a high-end Galaxy, which means device speed is not a problem. Also, the UI is not as intuitive as its iOS sister version. A lot better with the recent update, however.

App is extremely slow, even failing to find routine, extremely common words. Some searches never complete at all. Different devices tried, ever uninstalled and reinstalled. On WiFi or mobile web makes no difference. Even tried disabling my security software, also on difference devices. Not sure what the problem is, but I'm thoroughly displeased.

Worth every penny. It's simplistic yet effective, even has a history set up for if you search up many words in a row. I'm sad that the Word of the Day isn't accessible offline, but it wouldn't really be the word of the day if you could have it downloaded a week in advance, would it? In all, a brilliant app that no other dictionary app could compare to.

Ant. S. Dec 16, 2020

The best one. And what's better is the American pronunciations it has. BUT PLEASE I BEG YOU TO ADD THIS FEATURE: Add the option to download the audio and images of the whole dictionary so we can access to it fully when and wherever we may be (since we've paid for the premium app, it would be fair, and would motivate other users to buy the premium version too if you added this feature). I WOULD INFINITELY THANK YOU FOR IT and I know I'm not the only one who has ever said this. Thank you

Please fix the 2 bugs below. They've been recurring every day for already more than 1 year. 1. Keyboard disappears a few seconds after I start typing. Happens only on the first word after opening the app. When I open the app later on, say in 1 hour, the app gets reinitialized and the issue recurs. I'm running Android 10 with Gboard keyboard app. 2. Very often the app doesn't play any pronunciation saying that I don't have Internet connection. Only app kill & start helps in this case.

When I first bought this apk, it had voice (microphone) input. (NOTE: it had to be explained, the Internet was required to make use of this feature) Somewhere, somehow that disappeared. For my needs the voice input was the apk's greatest feature. I am an extremely poor speller, & having my voice dictate what word I chose was invaluable.

This app is an absolute succor. Name a word and it is there in its kitty. I have loved it for the last so many years and I don't need any other dictionary. But I really liked its display in its previous version. The current version appears quite unattractive. I request if you can roll back its appearance as before, my experience would be much more satisfying than in its present form. All in all, the dictionary is a gem.

Too limited. OK for quick lookups but insufficient information to be really satisfying. Doesn't have enough words. Should have automatic link to website when a word can't be found. User interface is adequate but feels like 10 years ago. App should provide "closest fit" suggestions when there's not a word match (configurable in Settings). Phone Back button should back up in app, NOT go back to app's home page. Overall, not really worth paying for (insufficient value in Premium).
