Dictionary Pro

I'm a non native speaker of the English language, and often times I need to look up a word's meaning, its pronunciation and a few examples demostrating its use. This app handles the experience quite beautifully, and it throws in a few useful features like idiom of the day and quote of the day. It also includes some features that are very useful for non-advanced speakers, like tense forms. I wish I had known about this app sooner. Been recommending it to everyone I know.

The dictionary is a really good one. However, there's always a scope for improvement which, for this dictionary app, as of now, would be: 1. Offline pronunciations (English India) 2. Better Hindi translations 3. On Android when we select a text on any app, a pop-up appears with options like copy, cut, paste, etc. other dictionaries also appear in the options. It would be very very good and handy, useful if this dictionary also appears there.

Hands down the best dictionary out there, I've yet to come across something I can't look up in it. Plethora of definitions, examples, a nice synonym/antonym system, fun quick games, fun facts, translations. I love that it has their entire English grammar book in there. And the offline mode is amazing. I'd only love a rework of the dark mode as now it just sets the background colour, so there's a clash between usual accent colours and the background (darker blues, reds...).

Very good, and in fact superior to all other dictionary apps I've used. You get word definitions in English along with translations in German, French, and Spanish, and articles about various historical events and personages. You also get flashcards and other features, which is not something I would expect a simple dictionary app to offer.

In my opinion, it is the best English digital dictionary, either when it comes to translate or to define. The only (minor) inconvenience is that it has one of the ugliest interfaces I've ever seen, which seems to have been designed by some 13 year-old geek in the nineties. Really terrible graphic design.

It's fantastic! It's available in every platform I've used. Not only has definitions, but it has thesaurus, translations, other languages dictionaries and it uses several dictionaries and thesaurus to provide the information. I use it everyday and we should support the continuous development of this friendly and useful app.

Just purchased this, so will probably come back later; but so far it looks like it's going to be nice. Helpful, and grammar instruction! More info than I've ever seen when looking up a word, lots of extra features, heavenly! Thanks! Update: This'd be my Dream Dictionary if it had one thing WordWeb has. When I highlight text in email, etc., WW has a link in the drop down to look up the word directly. It's great, but FD doesn't seem to have it... yet. Thanks for the great dictionary!

Provides word definitions, examples and synonyms quickly from multiple sources. The interface is clean and function has been flawless so far. As with many apps, there are extraneous features on the home page, but the home page is customizable and many default features can be turned off.

Lacks the ability to control account settings, and more importantly, the ability to sync favourites across devices. For example, I do not know what email is linked to my account since I made it years ago. Only username is visible. Please fix/add these functions.

A dictionary that loads instantly, ad-free (that's a given, of course), with a massive library and inbuilt thesaurus, offline mode, and the ability to put everything in Dark Reader Mode? Yes please! And I'm sure I'm only scratching the surface here, because I'm still pretty new to this magnificent beast ^_^).

So far the app is great but I wish there was a small edge icon that I could expand when swiped producing a word search. There should be some integration so that when a word is highlighted anywhere, it offers an option to define it, just like a translation app.

This 'Pro' app is poor and buggy, e.g. search results are not displayed sometimes! Only the online dict versions are extensive, but you do not need this app for them as you can use your normal browser! This way you avoid the glitches in this app. IMPORTANTLY, the offline dicts' contents are very limited and insufficient for advanced use. Hence, save the $ and use your normal to browse on thefreedictionary, your experience will be much better.

Marvelous app! Buy as this is the most reasonable app around. My only gripe: 1) Please dont run Facebook, Bing, and google analytics in the background for paid users but rather add new words and phrases that gets developed with passage of time. 2) No matter what words I save/bookmark all gets removed/ taken down eventually. Please fix this.

I have used this app for years!! I've always loved it. Recently I upgraded to the Dictionary Pro app and it is SO worth it! I'm taking some proofreading courses , which involves lots of grammar... I was so happy to see the free grammar book included, punctuation, etc with quizzes! also Thesaurus, games, history, horoscopes.. on and on! Its the best!!!

PLEASE add an option to turn off badge banner notification. I don't need to know every time, and I don't want to click "Close", it breaks my immersion. Other than that, great app, makes learning fun and engaging.

Gotta add this is the very best dictionary app in the world! It's my go to dictionary and I use it several times a day. I'm impressed with the multiple sources of definitions and derivations. When I noticed a few citations included proper nouns or acronyms, I let developer know and they worked and resolved. The games can be fun and the interactive search that shows non-English words is indespensible. After many years since moto Android with keyboard, my single best app, a must have.

This is a dictionary and more. You quickly find yourself passing hours away having fun learning in numerous categories. If you like something you want to learn and unexpectedly find that you have learned a great deal more, than this is the app for you. Love this app. Enhance but do not change it. So many brilliant apps get ruined that way.

It's a great app, especially the biblical examples means a lot to me as a Christian. But I wish you'd add pronunciation to the offline version especially the Pro version.

The Free Dictionary has always been my choice since when I started using it. I seldom make purchases, but I had to get the pro version because I wanted to have it offline. Now, whenever I get a new device, I go straight to download my pro version, download all offline contents, and I'm back where I left off. Thanks for the online goodies, Quote of the Day, Idioms, Birthdays, Hangman, etc! The Free Dictionary is a daily visit!

Had problems with a recent update. Version 12.4 has fixed the issue and all is well. Like the dark option. One gripe tho, You get no hits unless the word your looking for is not spelled correctly... A spell check / auto correction would be good, as I find I have to go to my browser to find the correct spelling.

Great app companion to the ever-expanding website. Link's to Wikipedia's wealth of information, but also includes more authoritative content - dictionaries (including a medical one), thesauri, grammar and speech references, etc. Excellent main reference set, great for on the fly especially with its included offline mode - should one not have access to an internet connection.!

Just love that there is more than having a dictionary available. I have my thesaurus, word games, knowledge areas where youncan read something historical daily, and more! There's something new each day to add to your brain. Love it, love it, love it!

Good dictionary, maybe the best, but this app stays memory resident and eats battery even when not in use and even when all features justifying such behavior are turned off. Only 4 other apps continue to drain the battery when not in use, e.g. Internet Speed Meter, AccuBattery, etc., all for obvious functional reasons. If I go Setup, Apps, Dictionary, Force Stop, problem solved, both paid and free versions. All 50+ other apps, also running on Oreo (8.1), have zero background drain.

Absolutely stunning in content and intuitive! I've used other dictionary apps for years and on many occasions I couldn't find specific words and it drove me insane. I decided to try this app with those words and EVERY single word was in this dictionary. Support this app by purchasing the pro version and I guarantee you won't regret.

Easy to use and has lots of features. I m starting a part time diploma course which needs a lot of new chemistry and scientific terms and this really help me a lot. Of course I can search thru Wikipedia and online definitions but the time save is put to better use.

Just purchased this Pro-version of the dictionary and so far I'm really pleased. Apart from the many wonderful features, and the ability to edit the homepage to ur liking, the app also has links to the Farlex Grammar Book (something that I was keen to use), no ads and a wonderful customer service team who always get back to u if u hv a query or question. Glad I bought this app and wud certainly recommend it to others. 5 stars, easily.

I simply love it and find it indispensable. However, I wish it had additional features of integration with popular word processors like MS Word, Corel WordPerfect, Apache OpenOffice Writer, etc. Please, be careful you don't spoil this app!
